Update 2: Teri Hatcher explains how Conan hurt his head.
Update: according to Variety, it is expected that Conan will be back on Monday night.
NBC issued a statement (through Aaron Bleyaert) that The Tonight Show would be a repeat tonight with the following message:
Hey guys! Change of plans tonight. Here's a statement from the network:
Tonight, NBC will broadcast a repeat of "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien." Conan hit his head doing a stunt and the show was not finished.
Conan O'Brien added, "Last thing I remember I was enjoying the play with Mrs. Lincoln, and the next thing I knew I was in bed being served cookies and juice."
I'll post more details as they become available!
I have no doubt that for this too, Jay Leno will be blamed! Kidding aside, I hope Conan is fine. Despite the levity in Conan's statement, it's hard to get a read on what happened or how serious it is.

He knocked himself out? If they filmed that, they should totally play it tomorrow.
I mean Monday.
I’m glad he’s ok. I wouldn’t be able to handle losing him.
It would be nice if he bangs his head every night. His show is just boring and stupid. I dont even find it that funny. Jay was the best.
Can’t wait for the Letterman folk to spin this…
Get well soon Conan!
I don’t think Letterman will “spin” this. Dave is better than that.
head injuries, even ones that seem innocent enough, can be deadly serious. Cancelling tells me it was more than just a bump.
So if he knocked his head of – would Leno move back to this slot?
Too bad he didn’t bang it hard enough for them to have to cancel the show forever.
Too bad he didn’t knock his head completely off. It would have made a great finale to the end of a miserable show. What a doofus…never has been funny. I’m glad Letterman is getting senile too, that way I can turn it all off and get to sleep earlier.
Folks, take a step back. Are you really wishing injury on someone over a television show?
that’s a rhetorical question, right? I mean that’s like asking “are there really crazy people on the Internet who occupy their time posting hateful comments on blogs?”
There’s no one in late night tv that I like more as a person than Conan, but assuming this isn’t too serious this will give him weeks of material. So there’s a silver lining for him.
Vetinari: see the update; if Variety is correct and he’ll be back Monday, it sounds like fortunately it wasn’t too serious.
Glad to hear he’s expected back at work soon. I’d be shocked if he didn’t show the footage on Monday’s show. Conan’s never had a problem making fun of himself, and lets face it, he could use a little bit of buzz right now. You know that clip would get *lots* of play on the internet.
Mark, I agree and I have little doubt that conspiracy theorists will declare it all a ratings ploy/publicity stunt.
I saw on my cable guide that Conan was supposed to have Seth McFarland on the show on Friday, so I was wondering why it was a reason. I was worried that something had happened to him. It’s good to know he’ll be okay. I was looking forward to that interview with Seth, though. Will that be shown on Monday?
Thank God he is ok!!
Good lord.
I don’t watch his show and I don’t think he is funny, but I don’t wish him physical harm.
Seriously, people, calm the f*ck down.
