Update: full details now posted.
Based on the always very preliminary metered market ratings ABC's FlashForward won the 8pm hour with a 7.6/13 (household rating/share), besting Survivor: Samoa (6.0/10) by over 25%
FOX's Bones had a 5.6/9, but Fringe (3.6/6) wasn't as lucky at 9pm facing off against Grey's Anatomy & CSI (both with (9.9/16 between 9pm to 10pm). Fringe is down from last week's 4.8/8 in the early metered markets.
Update: The Mentalist had a 10.0/16 at 10pm, and Vampire Diaries had a 2.4/4 (less than the premiere had, but 1/10th higher than last week.
It's not possible to accurately convert the preliminary household ratings into viewers and demographic viewing, but all signs point to a very decent opening for FlashForward and lower numbers from Fringe than it got last week. By comparison, last week Survivor: Samoa had a 6.1/10 in the early metered markets and wound up with 11.5 million and a 3.5 adults 18-49 rating in the fast national overnight numbers. We'll see those fast nationals for last night within a couple of hours, and will post the full night's details with viewer and adults 18-49 rating in our normal overnight post once the information is available.

That sucks about Fringe. I really hope Fox isn’t expecting much and just better numbers than season’s past because of the competition. As for FlashForward, I hope the ratings were great because I thought the pilot was fantastic and I’m hooked. Absolutely loved it and I can’t wait to see more!
Glad to hear FlashForward seem to be getting good ratings was the best pilot i have seen since Lost
i sawFF last night. What a show. i think i watching most of it at the edge of my seat. That was the fastest 1 hour i had watching TV. im hooked
I agree with you two. Loved the pacing, questions kept coming, and I also think it’s the best pilot since Lost, maybe even *gasp* better. I’ve seen people nitpick at things that they found unrealistic but come on, the show’s premise is unrealistic. It’s SUPPOSED to be. This isn’t another boring procedural. It remains realistic enough to work and has enough weird things happening to be fresh and interesting.
Loved FlashForward, good to see it do well ratings wise. Hope it continues to entertain.
What about Vampire Diaries?
The viewer numbers should translate into Survivor losing its timeslot for the first time since “Friends” to regular competition.
I also watched Community, decided to give it more chances. It was better than the pilot, funnier, and not as cringe-inducing. Chevy Chase’s character was better this time but still pretty unbelievable. Unless he’s clinically insane, then it works, haha.
Still, I notice with comedies, and particularly my 2 all-time favorites (Seinfeld and The Office), it wasn’t until around their 12th episode that they started picking up steam. For both of those that meant they were in Season 2 since they had short Season 1 lengthes of only 6 episodes. I’m willing to give Community that type of a shot now.
Flash Forward was meh. I expected more.
I want Fringe to do well…I love Fringe! Last week’s premiere renewed my faith in the show! I hope that Fringe can muster up a 2.5-2.6 this week. I hope FOX wasn’t expecting much with the stiff competition.
FF, I haven’t watched it yet but it i heard it was flat out amazing.
Office was hilarious and Community was better than last week! I’m glad i didn’t base my opinion on the pilot
The only problem I have with FlashForward is the similar problem I have with LOST. I can’t pay attention to any other shows because I am to busy wondering what the heck just happened.
what did bones get in the peliminary ratings last week? just trying to figure if its up or down from last week
Good to see FF lookin like done amazing as this looks like it could of beat survivor in this time slot for what seems like forever as thought premier was great.
I hope Fox are not expecting much from fringe as i really have a grudge agaisnt them for putting it in this slot and hope and pray this doesnt lead to them axing it.
Happy for Flash forward. Good to know a show like that can do well.
Watched it, maybe not as good has fringe, but still entertaining, looking to see what’s coming.
Really sucks for Fringe. Hope Fox will be forgiving, I bet they will, they still invested a full season behind AI and house.

At this point I’m REALLY afraid this might happen. I love “Fringe” very much, it’s one of my favorite shows…..but things are definitely not looking good.
Is it in danger? Any input?
I agree Steve. I have to think Fox isn’t expecting too much since they put it in a slot that competes with the same audience as other shows. I honestly wish they would’ve given this another year with House as a lead-in. Both fit well together in terms of audience and demos and it would’ve been a LOT easier on my DVR, haha. Plus the competition isn’t as fierce.
I checked out FlashForward…it showed the scene where the kid was being operated and showed what I did not want to see which made me have that feeling in my stomache, hot and also sweat…was I ever sweating, I just turned the tv off after the first 30 mins. Looks like there will be disturbing scenes in the show…I know the show looks interesting to watch so I think I’ll pass.
bones?maybe 9.4 mil?……flash forward was good…but WE need more!!
FF was okay, good acting good pace. Will watch again next week thanks to the acting and nothing better to watch in that timeslot.
Wow, it looks like Fringe felt the mighty pimp hand of CSI. I hope it still manages to pull a 2.5+ in the demo.
