FOX SEES ITS STRONGEST FALL PREMIERE WEEK EVER; WINS IN ADULTS 18-34!

Critically Acclaimed Season Debut Propels HOUSE to No. 1

CLEVELAND Rocks As Fall’s Highest-Rated New Scripted Series Premiere

Viewers Keep Singing Glee’s Praises

FOX kicked into high gear during broadcast TV’s official premiere week with exceptionally strong debuts from HOUSE, The Cleveland Show, Family Guy and American Dad and continued audience demand for So You Think You Can Dance, Glee and BONES in the face of heavy competition.  The network won the premiere week outright among Adults 18-34 for the first time in network history and posted a 3.1/9 among Adults 18-49.

On Monday night, the two-hour season premiere of HOUSE led FOX to win the opening night of the broadcast season for the first time in the network’s history among Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers.

  • HOUSE posted an impressive 6.7/16 among Adults 18-49 and gave FOX the nightly win against all premieres from competitive networks among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos.
  • HOUSE’s season debut was also the highest rated premiere of the week, tying with ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.  In addition, HOUSE significantly outperformed its premiere last Fall, increasing +18% among Adults 18-49, +37% among Adults 18-34 and +16% in Total Viewers and beating its nearest competitors on Monday by +63% among Adults 18-49, +139% among Adults 18-34 and +15% in Total Viewers.

FOX kept up the pace on Tuesday with back-to-back episodes of HELL’S KITCHEN, winning the night among Adults 18-34 and Teens.

  • Both episodes of HELL’S KITCHEN scored well with viewers, posting a 3.2/9 in the 8p hour and a 3.5/9 at 9p.
  • In head-to-head competition in the 8-10p time period HELL’S KITCHEN outperformed NBC’s The Biggest Loser by +6% in Adults 18-49 and in Adults 18-34 outperformed The Biggest Loser by +29% and ABC’s Dancing With The Stars by +29%.

On Wednesday night, Weeks 3 of So You Think You Can Dance and Glee held their own against big competitive premieres:

  • At 8p, So You Think You Can Dance achieved a 2.5/8 among Adults 18-49 and grew over the previous week’s telecast by +4% among Adults 18-49, +7% among Adults 18-34, +50% among Teens and retained 96% of its Total Viewers.
  • The dance competition ranked No. 2 in its hour among Adults 18-49 and No. 1 in Adults 18-34 and Teens. So far, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE shows growth over FOX’s regular Fall’08 average in the Wednesday 8p hour by +26% among Adults 18-34.
  • Glee posted a 3.1/8 among Adults 18-49 and retained 97% of its performance last week (3.2/9) even against all premieres on the competition.  The show grew over last week in Teens (+24%, 2.1/8 vs. 1.7/6) and retained 99% of its Total Viewers (6.6 vs. 6.7 Mil.)
  • In fact, Glee’s performance so far this season has increased upon FOX’s regular Fall’08 average in the Wednesday 9p hour by +78% among Adults 18-49, +125% among Adults 18-34, +82% among Teens and +41% in Total Viewers.

On Sunday night, FOX rolled out the fall premieres of its fan favorite animation lineup, including newcomer The Cleveland Show and comedy staple Family Guy:

  • The highly anticipated series premiere of The Cleveland Show at 8:30p delivered the goods, posting a 4.9/12 among Adults 18-49 -- making it the highest rated series premiere of the season among Adults 18-34 and Teens, as well as the highest rated new scripted series opener so far this season in the key adult demo.  In fact, The Cleveland Show is FOX’s highest rated Sunday night comedy series premiere in six and a half years among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Total Viewers, and in six years in Teens.
  • In the 9p half hour the season premiere of Family Guy achieved a 5.2/12 among Adults 18-49. which exceeded last year’s premiere by +16% among Adults 18-49, +19% among Adults 18-34, +12% among Teens and +11% in Total Viewers.  Family Guy was the highest rated program of the week among Adults 18-34.

Friday night’s series premiere episodes of BROTHERS posted a 1.1/4 at both 8p and 8:30p among Adults 18-49, followed by the season premiere of DOLLHOUSE at 9pm, which delivered a 1.0/3 among Adults 18-49.

MONDAY

FOX won the opening night of the broadcast season for the first time in network history among Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers.

The two-hour season premiere of HOUSE posted a 6.7/16 among Adults 18-49 and gave FOX the nightly win against all premieres on the competition among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos.  HOUSE significantly outperformed its premiere last Fall on 9/16/08, increasing +18% among Adults 18-49 (6.7/16 vs. 5.7/16), +37% among Adults 18-34 (6.7/18 vs. 4.9/15) and +16% in Total Viewers (17.2 vs. 14.8 Mil.).  HOUSE outdelivered its 08/09 season average by +43% among Adults 18-49 (6.7/16 vs. 4.7/13), +56% among Adults 18-34 (6.7/18 vs. 4.3/13) and +43% among Total Viewers (17.2 vs. 12.0 Mil).  HOUSE maintained its dominance throughout the night gaining in each half hour and showing impressive growth in its last half hour versus its first among Adults 18-49 (+22%, 7.3 vs. 6.0), Adults 18-34 (+18%, 7.1 vs. 6.0) and Total Viewers (+15%, 18.2 vs. 15.8 Mil.).

FOX outperformed its nearest competitors for the night by +63% among Adults 18-49 (6.7/16 vs. CBS’ 4.1/10), +139% among Adults 18-34 (6.7/18 vs. CBS’ 2.8/8) and +15% in Total Viewers (17.2 vs. ABC’s 15.0 Mil.).

HELL’S KITCHEN at 8p (3.2/9) and 9p (3.5/9) combined to match its prior average this summer among Adults 18-49 (3.3) and grew by +7% among Adults 18-34 (3.1 vs. 2.9).  In head to head competition in the 8-10p time period HELL’S KITCHEN outperformed NBC’s The Biggest Loser by +6% in Adults 18-49 (3.3/9 vs. 3.1/8) and in Adults 18-34 outperformed The Biggest Loser by +29% (3.1/9 vs. 2.4/7) and ABC’s Dancing with the Stars by +29% (3.1/9 vs. 2.4/7).

Week three of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE achieved a 2.5/8 among Adults 18-49.  Airing against premieres on the competition SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE outperformed last week’s telecast by +4% among Adults 18-49 (2.5/8 vs. 2.4/7), +7% among Adults 18-34 (2.9/10 vs. 2.7/9), +50% among Teens (1.5/6 vs. 1.0/4) and retained 96% of its Total Viewers (5.5 vs. 5.7 Mil.)  SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE ranked No. 2 in its hour among Adults 18-49 and No. 1 in Adults 18-34 and Teens.  In the 8p hour SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE outperformed ABC’s Dancing with the Stars by +38% in Adults 18-34 (2.9/10 vs. 2.1/7).  So far SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE shows growth over FOX’s regular Fall’08 average in the Wednesday 8p hour by +26% among Adults 18-34 (2.9/9 vs. 2.3/8).

Week three of GLEE at 9p posted a 3.1/8 among Adults 18-49 and retained 97% of its performance last week (3.2/9) even against all premieres on the competition.  GLEE grew over last week in Teens (+24%, 2.1/8 vs. 1.7/6) and retained 99% of its Total Viewers (6.6 vs. 6.7 Mil.)  GLEE ranked No. 3 in the hour among Adults 18-49 and No. 1 in Adults 18-34 and Teens.  In the 9p hour GLEE outperformed the season premiere of NBC’s Law And Order: SVU by +24% in Adults 18-49 (3.1/8 vs. 2.5/7).  GLEE built upon its lead-in by +24% among Adults 18-49 (3.1/8 vs. 2.5/8), +21% among Adults 18-34 (3.5/10 vs. 2.9/10), +40% in Teens (2.1/8 vs. 1.5/6) and +20% in Total Viewers (6.6 vs. 5.5 Mil.)  So far this season GLEE shows strong growth compared to FOX’s regular Fall’08 average in the Wednesday 9p hour, increasing +78% among Adults 18-49 (3.2/9 vs. 1.8/5), +125% among Adults 18-34 (3.6/10 vs. 1.6/5), +82% among Teens (2.0/7 vs. 1.1/4) and +41% in Total Viewers (6.9 vs. 4.9 Mil.).

FOX ranked No. 3 for the night among Adults 18-49 and won the night among Adults 18-34 and Teens.  In fact, in Adults 18-34 FOX outperformed its nearest competitors of the night by +28% (3.2/10 vs. 2.5/8 for both ABC and CBS.)

THURSDAY

With its new line-up of BONES and Fringe, FOX showed substantial gains compared to the same night last year (9/25/08), increasing +25% among Adults 18-49 (2.5/7 vs. 2.0/5) and +72% in Total Viewers (7.4 vs. 4.3 Mil.)

Week two of BONES posted a 2.8/8 among Adults 18-49 and so far this fall is outperforming its Thursday average last season by +7% among Adults 18-49 (2.9/9 vs. 2.7/8), +14% among Adults 18-34 (2.4/8 vs. 2.1/7) and +3% among Total Viewers (9.7 vs. 9.4 Mil).  Compared to FOX's Fall'08 time period performance with regular programming, BONES is up +71% among Adults 18-49 (2.9/9 vs. 1.7/5), +41% among Adults 18-34 (2.4/8 vs. 1.7/5) and +143% among Total Viewers (9.7 vs. 4.0 Mil).  BONES ranked No. 3 in the hour among Adults 18-49 and No. 2 in Adults 18-34.

Week two of Fringe achieved a 2.3/6 among Adults 18-49.  So far this season Fringe shows substantial gains compared to FOX’s regular programming in the time period last Fall, increasing +37% among Adults 18-49 (2.6/7 vs. 1.9/5) and +58% in Total Viewers (6.8 vs. 4.3 Mil.)  FRINGE ranked No. 4 in the 9p hour among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.

At 8:30p THE Cleveland Show delivered a 4.9/12 among Adults 18-49 and outperformed last year’s season premiere of King Of The Hill by +44% among Adults 18-49 (4.9/12 vs. 3.4/8), +56% among Adults 18-34 (6.4/18 vs. 4.1/11), +53% among Teens (4.6/15 vs. 3.0/9) and +34% in Total Viewers (9.5 vs. 7.1 Mil.)  THE CLEVELAND SHOW is FOX’s highest rated Sunday comedy series premiere in six and a half years among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Total Viewers (all since Oliver Beene on 3/9/03) and in six years in Teens (since Arrested Development on 11/2/03).  THE CLEVELAND SHOW built on its lead-in by +14% among Adults 18-49 (4.9/12 vs. 4.3/12), +21% among Adults 18-34 (6.4/18 vs. 5.3/16), +53% among Teens (4.6/15 vs. 3.0/11) and +14% in Total Viewers (9.5 vs. 8.3 Mil.)  THE CLEVELAND SHOW ranked No. 2 in the 8:30p half hour among Adults 18-49 and No. 1 in Adults 18-34 and Teens.

The season premiere of THE SIMPSONS posted a 4.3/12 among Adults 18-49, down only slightly from last year’s premiere (4.5/12) which had the benefit of an NFL lead-in.  THE SIMPSONS posted its highest Adults 18-49 in almost a year (since 11/2/08) while it outperformed its Fall average last year by +16% among Adults 18-49 (4.3/12 vs. 3.7/9), +20% among Adults 18-34 (5.3/16 vs. 4.4/13) and +4% in Total Viewers (8.3 vs. 8.0 Mil.)  THE SIMPSONS ranked No. 1 in the 8p half hour among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens.

At 9p the season premiere of FAMILY GUY posted a 5.2/12 among Adults 18-49 and outperformed last year’s premiere by +16% among Adults 18-49 (5.2/12 vs. 4.5/10), +19% among Adults 18-34 (6.8/17 vs. 5.7/14), +12% among Teens (5.5/18 vs. 4.9/14) and +11% in Total Viewers (10.1 vs. 9.1 Mil.)  FAMILY GUY posted its highest ratings in over a year and a half among Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers (both since 1/13/08) and in almost two years among Adults 18-34 (since 11/18/07) and Teens (since 11/11/07).  FAMILY GUY ranked No. 2 in its hour among Adults 18-49 and No. 1 in Adults 18-34 and Teens.

The season opener of AMERICAN DAD at 9:30p achieved a 3.6/9 among Adults 18-49 and outperformed last year’s premiere by +13% among Adults 18-49 (3.6/9 vs. 3.2/7), +12% among Adults 18-34 (4.6/12 vs. 4.1/10) and +3% in Total Viewers (7.1 vs. 6.9 Mil.)  AMERICAN DAD posted its highest ratings in a year among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 (both since 11/2/08) and Teens (since 11/16/08) and in over a year and a half in Total Viewers (since 1/13/08).  AMERICAN DAD ranked No. 3 in its half hour among Adults 18-49, No. 2 in Adults 18-34 and No. 1 in Teens.

At 7:30p an encore of BROTHERS posted a 1.6/5 and ranked No. 4 in the half hour among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 and No. 1 in Teens.

FOX ranked No. 2 for the night among Adults 18-49 (tie) and Adults 18-34 and No. 1 among Teens.
