For the week ending September 20, 2009 Grey’s Anatomy led with both the most units sold with 259,089 and the most weekly revenue with $9.472 million for the fifth season DVD. That's up from last year's fourth season debut with 225,545 and $8.331 million in sales.
FX fan favorite, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia was second best among the TV shows, with 201,406 and $5.067 million in revenue. That's well over 100% better than last year's first week of 80,294 units and $2.086 million in sales.
Now a ratings beast in its third season, the first week of The Big Bang Theory’s second season DVD sold 156,084 units and generated $4.525 million in estimated sales. Also up huge from last year's first week of 38,147 units and $.724 in revebue. Though some of the revenue difference is that last year's DVD had few episodes due to the strike and was cheaper.
The Office was next in its second week with an additional 149, 782 units for a 2 week total of 588,548. It added an additional $4.920 million in revenue for a two week total of $19.895 million.
The fifth week of Dexter season 3 added another 56,471 units for a total of 558,490 units and another $1.491 million in revenue for a total of $14.036 million after five weeks.
In its second week of release, Fringe’s first season sold another 52,351 units bringing its two week total to 163,710 units. It also added another $1.861 million in revenue for two week total of $6.013 million.
Heroes season three, in its third week of release sold another 50,170 units for a three week total of 447,279 and added another $1.87 million for a total of $16.758 million.
The amazing (and even if you don’t like the show you have to admit the DVD sales are amazing!) True Blood, now in its 18th week of release added another 40,233 units for a total of 1,580,074 units. It added another $1.362 million in sales for an 18 week total of $54.998 million.

Does anyone know why The Big Bang Theory has suddenly gone crazy? I’ve always thought the show was extremely funny from the very beginning.
The1337
its cause its lead by two and a half men now instead of opening the night up
but i liked it better with himym
The Big Bang Theory started to gain buzz last season due to Jim Parson’s portrayal of Sheldon getting a lot of great reviews. I’m happy the show is doing well now.
Phenomenal sales for True Blood
I wonder how the Sunny Christmas special will do on 10/20? Now that season 4 is selling really well it’ll be interesting to see.
The rest will all disappear soon but True Blood will still be steady… Love the show, It’s a Rare Masterpiece!!!
BBT is the least raunchy CBS sitcom, maybe the execs should take note of that. Not that there’s anything wrong with a good sex joke but it can become a lazy crutch when overdone. Maybe people like a cbs sitcom that’s at least partially about something else for a change.
Ventinari, well the first episodes of Season 3 make me think differently…
On topic: Awesome to see Sunny sell that well. The show thoroughly deservers it though, because it is so special compared to the other sitcoms on TV.
Heroes is still doing great. Lets just hope that the DVR ratings will be also good.
harper’s island how did it do is this its first week?
True Blood season 2 is still high on the list at amazon for pre-sales…apparently they put more effort into the special features too, so that may do even better.
TVBTN guys be warned:
Next week you’ll have to deal with TSCC fans….again….
Grey’s Anatomy is selling a lot more than The Complete Fifth Season of Desperate Housewives (same price) !
Seriously, way to go Sunny! I’ve been a fan of that show since the start, and am PUMPED that they sold 250% more than last year. Holy cats!!!
Fringe is selling relatively well but not well enough for Fox/WB to have it sicking around for another season if the ratings continue to fall. Abrams’ other show Alias was able to last 5 seasons thanks largely in part to its DVD sales.
“BBT is the least raunchy CBS sitcom, maybe the execs should take note of that. Not that there’s anything wrong with a good sex joke but it can become a lazy crutch when overdone.”
BBT has the sex jokes but the geeks ways their tastes in video games, Sci-Fi TV, and Science in general balance the show out.
Fringe also now is shot in Canada so we shall see how that factors as well. The show is getting squeezed anyway you look at it.
I’m not quite convinced Fringe is doomed. I think it all depends on how FOX judges the show. With it moving to Thursdays, to me, was a sign they wanted it to stay. They knew it wouldn’t be getting #1 in any demo, but they did it to strengthen that night’s line-up (which it has).
It is was looking for monster numbers, they would have kept it M-W.
True The_GodfatherSJP, but how are TSCC fans any worse than Dollhouse or Chuck fans?
Good for True Blood and Heroes, glad they are doing well on this chart.
sad to see that fringe isn’t do so great with dvd sales ):
Makes sense that premium channel shows would do best, since that is your only way to see them uncut if you don’t subscribe to the channels. Most network shows show up on some channel at some point and can be seen. True Blood Season One was terrific though, to me.
