I say it's a minor spoiler, but, perhaps it's major to you; it's a more in-depth program description via Syfy. If you don't like long program descriptions, look away now!
During an official visit by Senator Armstrong (CHRIS MCDONALD), his assistant Chloe (ELYSE LEVESQUE), and Eli Wallace (DAVID BLUE), a recently recruited gaming genius, to Icarus, a secret off-world military base, the base falls under a full force attack leaving Colonel Everett Young (LOUIS FERREIRA) with no choice but to retreat. He orders an evacuation to Earth. However, a last minute maneuver by scientist Dr. Nicholas Rush (ROBERT CARLYLE) thrusts the escapees headlong into his experiment, which transports everyone to deep space.
The survivors arrive on an uninhabited ship floating billions of light years away from Earth. Panic spreads throughout the group and Col. Young, who was severely injured during the escape, transfers command to Lt. Matthew Scott (BRIAN J. SMITH), before lapsing into unconsciousness. Teams led by Dr. Rush and Sgt. Greer (JAMIL WALKER SMITH) try to make sense of the situation, while Lt. Tamara Johansen (ALAINA HUFFMAN), a medic who was days away from leaving the program, is thrust into the role of chief medical officer.
After secretly contacting the Home World Command using communications stones - a device which allows the swapping of consciousness between bodies across vast distances - Dr. Rush claims that he has been placed in charge by General O’Neill (RICHARD DEAN ANDERSON) and there is no hope of returning to Earth. When the ship’s air supply systems begin to fail, his theories are challenged by Eli. As the crisis deepens, divisions emerge between those who want to attempt a return to Earth, including human resources executive Camille Wray (MING-NA), and those who want to remain aboard the Destiny.

Realy looking forward to this
I am really anxious for this new SG show, while it seems like a huge change from previous shows in the way it is handled I think that kind of change was needed and I hope it does well.
I really can’t wait for this show.
They should have premiered this over the summer and pick a better night if they expect to get good ratings
I actually think friday is a good night for the show.
Its nitch enough and with a somewhat large fanbase that it can avoid the “im rather gonna see a movie” decline and i honestly think it can compete and beat dollhouse and that would be something for Syfy spindoctors to play with.
Really what other night would it be on.
Mondays vs 2 1/2 and Big Bang= Ouch
Tuesdays vs the Ncis monster and Hells Kitchen nope
Wednesdays might be something but Modern Family could put a dent
Thursdays would be a slaugther vs Fringe, Grays, Csi, The office & Supernatural
That leaves Friday where Sgu can make a decent nitch for it self.
Medium and Dateline is not gonna chew into Sgus viewer base and with dollhouse collapsing thats a weak competitor.
Lets say Sgu get a good 3.5 million 1.4-1.6 rating Syfy will go Bananas and we get a couple of seasons of Stargate.
Stargate is a good show for Fridays, it always has been.
I on the other hand don’t like the their change of tone towards the young demographics. Sounds like Beverly Hills 90210 lost in space.
I’ve never been a fan of the Stargate franchise and I’ve always resented Stargate Atlantis for replacing Farscape. (Yes, I know it makes no sense.) Anyway, I like Robert Carlyle and Ming Na so I’m going to try this.
the only stargate I could sit through and actually enjoyed was atlantis
Ill give this one a shot tho
I’m torn about this. SGU will probably take away viewers from Dollhouse which would bring it even closer to cancellation.
I’m a huge fan of the Stargate franchise and out of all the shows I’ve watched, I’ve rewatched SG-1 the most (yes, more than The X-Files), so I would like to see it succeed. I was discussing Stargate with my brother the other day and I was blown away by how much we know about SG-1 and Atlantis.
Actually if you are viewing on DISH Stargate:Universe is on at 6:00 PM for a two hour premiere then the following week Stargate Universe is on at 6:00 PM and Sanctuary is on at 7:00 and in the Central and Mountain time zones Dollhouse is on at 8:00.
My point is that it makes for a nice night of scifi watching on Fridays.

I’m torn too, all I care about is lou diamond phillips and there is nothing in this description about his role. I’m devastated.
Looking forward to it cant wait hope we get more than one season.
I have never watched any of the Stargates. Will I be able to just jump into this show from the 1st episode and enjoy it or should I watch all 2000 of the previous episodes from this series first?
Anthony, I believe you can just jump in. I never watched any of them but the original movie until Stargate Atlantis. I was able to watch that and not feel I missed very much at all. We’ll see with Universe.

It will probably do as well as BSG or Atlantis did in this time slot, those are the folks who will be showing up after the initial premier numbers drop into normal ranges. Not sure why anyone else would tune in.
It has gotten a lot of publicity, but it just sounds like a bunch of angsty, flawed, overly dramatic arrogance in space.
(and I love sci-fi in general)
i could never get into atlantis and i didnt really like the last 2 seasons og sgu, but this one looks good
is it still produced by mgm
boycot this piece of crap show, otherwise Lou will not be available for the return of Wolf Lake…
Oh please. No one is gonna join your stupid boycott.
I hope it can stand on its own. There’s a bit of concern that SGU is going to recycle a minor enemy, the Lucian Alliance. I hope they disappear from this series after the base attack. Otherwise we have potential for a real ST: Voyager scenario.
I also wonder how exactly they will introduce new cast members, without it feeling like Atlantis. SGA made the mistake of killing off key characters just to bring in bigger names like Staite and Tapping.
It is curious why the Stargate franchise is delegated to Fridays on Syfy, being that it’s what carries the network (along with BSG somewhat).
