You need to keep on watching last call with carson daly because it's been on the air for 8 years now. Carson Daly wants to host late night on nbc, and NBC picked jimmy fallon instead. Now, ABC will move jimmy kimmel to 11:30pm, slide carson daly on at 12:30am opposite jimmy fallon and craig ferguson, and cancel nightline for their late night programming. Who could blame them? "Last Call with Carson Daly" has a great rating every night with 1.3 million viewers.

just cuz i'm practically like whoever writes these press releases and will defend conan and nbc (maybe not their decisions, but they have the best quality of shows)......

the talk with nightline's half hour vs the hours of conan and dave brings up a lot of talk of apples to apples vs apples to oranges.....

So just to argue for the sake of arguing.....

Conan got 2.4 millions viewers on what were really ABC and CBS's premiere weeks, NBC's premieres began the previous week (where Conan had improved in his numbers, including The Jay Leno Show's premiere week lead in)

Of course its about booking better guests, but its the freaking President of the United States. That's not the same thing as booking Madonna. Of course he was going to win the week and the demo.

Losing this week was expected for Conan because the President and CBS's huge premiere numbers.

Next week's numbers should come back closer to normal. Wednesday and Friday's numbers could possibly win in the demos (Madonna night and the first night after his admission of sex with staffers).

The following week's numbers (for shows from Oct 5-9) will be the ones to watch. Huge guests and premiere numbers will have settled but what's the sex scandal going to do to Letterman's numbers?

Sadly, I just think theyre going to rise.

I wish Letterman would get and keep ratings by putting on a well-written, funny show, instead of by repeating jokes week after week, continually bringing up the fire dave rally from 4 months ago, and now by admitting that he's a guy who does 'terrible, terrible' and 'creepy' things.

Do you know how unbelievably bad this press release looks?
It's like, ok you beat us in the ratings and embarrased us in the demo, but hey, Conan has younger viewers.
2.4 Million viewers on a premiere week is laughable. He should bring that up tonight, hey I got murdered in the ratings, then I'd think he's funny.

This is kind of a sad press release. If you can't put a decent positive spin on it, I think it's better to just admit defeat for the week or not put one out rather than sound desperate. Advertisers could see that as a sign that they can sort of bully them, in my opinion.

Hmmmmm....how I read this, NBC is saying Dave won the week, only becasue he had better guests. Well, isn't that the point, booking the best guests on talk shows?

I guess next week, if the demos remain the same, NBC can use this exact same PR, replace Obama, and insert Madonna (another "atypical" guest, in many respects).

Wow, that's the only thing they can brag about ... median ages. Also, I'm not sure if they can really claim Dave's win is because of Obama since he still won the demo for episodes later in the week.
