Scripps Networks Interactive late Thursday announced it is shuttering the seven-year-old Fine Living Network, with an eye toward relaunching the property as the Cooking Channel.
The Knoxville-based FLN will pull up stakes in the third quarter of 2010, moving to the Chelsea Market in Manhattan, home of Scripps powerhouse brand Food Network.
According to SNI, the Cooking Channel will focus on instructional programming, the sort of kitchen-based chop-n-chat fare that characterizes Food Nets' daytime and weekend lineup. As part of the overall mix, there will also be an emphasis on wine and spirits, healthy and vegetarian cooking and kids' foods.
Scripps shuttering Fine Living Network

Food Network 2.0
So they plan on taking programming that was a lame second fiddle to things like HGTV and DIY and turn it into programming that runs as a lame second fiddle to things like Food Network?
This new Cooking Network better keep on reruns of the original Iron Chef! That was the only thing worth watching.
@smgpugfaw–Ha Ha, well put!
All I knew about it was that it had Biggest Loser reruns. I guess that qualifies as both Food and Fine Living. Hmmm…
Food Network’s overall ratings are down, so I’m guessing it will move their daytime shows to this Cooking Channel.
Scripps can then relaunch the Food Network as Fyyd.
When food network started they had a lot of shows that actually taught you how to cook. Now the shows are more about novelty and less about cooking. I would enjoy a channel that brought the focus back to actual cooking.
Speaking of HGTV, It sems they forgot the whole gardening part of their name because they don’t have any gardening shows. All they have are home and landscaping shows. Showing me where to plant a bush is not the same as teaching me how to grow a bush.
Whoa…HGTV was about gardening?
Ya know, we just need about 20 more of these things. :>
There’s a reason I don’t buy cable TV, and this is just one of them.
What the heck will happen to Three Sheets ???
