The Oct. 8 [UFL] season opener posted a .11 (146,000 viewers) in the key 18-to-49 demo in "live plus same day" performance. That was down about 13% by one measure from Versus' average for the 52-week season that ended last month.

The UFL kickoff game also yielded a .14 household rating, down from the .19 (220,000 homes) that marked the Versus average for the 2009-10 season. The game did go against a college game on ESPN and the baseball playoffs.

  1. Are they missing us DirecTV folks yet?

  2. Jesse

Well with DirecTV and Comcast playing games of their own it’s tough to see the UFL for lots of people.

  3. BIG DADDY

This is SUCH a bad idea…. Did you see the uniforms? LOL

  4. Mark

Guess it doesn’t matter since I have directv but heck I didn’t even know it was on.

  5. FYI, DirecTV has about 1/5 of the US TV households as subscribers.

It’s not clear what % of typical Versus viewers are/were DirecTV subscribers, but 1/5 is a reasonable guess.

And the other game of the week (only 4 teams!), which was on HDNet Saturday night, may have had 100 viewers.

I wonder if the games played to more than 50% capacity?

  8. Nation Hahn

Media Post reported in accurate numbers. It was a .25 overall, .29 among 18-40.

  9. What were the Indycar IRL ratings for their season finale on Versus? How do they compare?

  10. Chris the TV sage

    Nation Hahn, what’s your source?

  11. TD

Sounds like tickets sold were about 25-30% of capacity but actual attendance was about 10-20%. Peter King talked about the UFL in his MMQB column. One of the things he said was the UFL is emphasizing spending money on quality football over promotion. I think there went a little too far in the non promotion department as there was zero hype going into these games. I might have checked out some of the games but with no advertising reminding me when the season started and Versus tucked away in one of my upper channels that I rarely flip through I forgot.

That is not accurate. The ratings for the inaugural UFL game were a .25 overall and a .29 among the UFL’s target demographic (men 18-40). That is higher than Versus’ average and higher than the NHL usually gets on Versus. The UFL’s sponsers were only expecting a .1, so the UFL actually exceeded expectations.

    Men 18-40?

Talk about spin – Denis Savard would be jealous :D

And that would certainly exclude any men who might be in a mid-life crisis – who might be desperate enough to watch Lifetime, Hallmark, and the CW :o

…wait a minute – a Badger is playing QB for the Florida franchise of the UFL…I have to watch it now…

    …so make it 101 viewers now :D

Get with it Directv and Versus, this is getting old, I only watch the NHL on Versus but I am missing alot of games, like the Hawks tonight. I guess it is time to call Directv again, I think I will ask them if they are going to give me a refund on all the games I’m missing. I do get NHL center ice so still can watch hockey. Meet half way maybe???

…okaaay, Ron, what’s *your* source? And don’t say “Nation Hahn.”
