While the LA Times spends most of a long piece belaboring the obvious, that a Dodgers v. Yankees matchup would be better than a Dodgers v. Angels matchup for ratings, it does hit on the most important driver of baseball series ratings, that Robert and I mention often, but eludes much of the TV media, it's the number of games!:
Fox would prefer a seven-game battle between any teams to a Yankees-vs.-Dodgers four-game sweep. It's the money. While neither MLB nor the network releases figures, industry sources who were not authorized to speak publicly said onegame can be worth up to $130 million to the network.
Among the members of the TV media, believe it or not, that's the equivalent of turning an unassisted double play.
