While the LA Times spends most of a long piece belaboring the obvious, that a Dodgers v. Yankees matchup would be better than a Dodgers v. Angels matchup for World Series ratings, it does hit on the most important driver of baseball series ratings, that Robert and I mention often, but eludes much of the TV media, it's the number of games!:
Fox would prefer a seven-game battle between any teams to a Yankees-vs.-Dodgers four-game sweep. It's the money. While neither MLB nor the network releases figures, industry sources who were not authorized to speak publicly said one World Series game can be worth up to $130 million to the network.
Among the members of the TV media, believe it or not, that's the equivalent of turning an unassisted double play.
