Once again the football gods handed CBS a gift with a 75 minute football overrun on Sunday night that kept it on top of the broadcast primetime averages for adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and average viewership for the fourth week of the broadcast primetime season ending October 18, 2009. While the CBS PR department will neglect to mention it, their performance this fall has been substantially boosted by 3 NFL overruns out of 4 Sundays this season.
Fox’s ALCS games between the Yankees and the Angels provided the extra viewers to put it on top for adults 18-34 and close behind in adults 18-49. Now if the ALCS can just go 7 games, Fox will see some real ratings excitement.
Note that the chart includes RATINGS not VIEWERSHIP as was typical in our weekly network ratings posts prior to July, 2009.

Each rating point is a percentage of the US TV population in that demographic group and equals: 2.90 million viewers, 1.32 million adults 18-49, 0.68 million adults 18-34 and 1.24 million adults 25-54.
Sadly, we will no longer be having a Tiny Network Showdown! since MyNetworkTV ratings averages are not being reported by Nielsen, since they are no longer classed as a network but are now a “programming service”.
