As mediocre as Chuck is in the ratings, it is very consistent and has never really dipped to disturbingly low levels (6+ million, 2.5 demo isn't bad for NBC). Southland would have been a financial disaster for NBC, especially on Monday like Chuck or in it's presumed timeslot of Friday at 9. I mean, TNT had the premiere date for MOACA on their website for weeks now, and everyone knew The Closer was coming back for a few weeks in December to provide a solid lead-in...
