I’m so worried for gossip girl…i love it and i don’t want it going anywhere. But i am so happy with castle, it is a really good show, so well written. I am happy it’s doing ok.

I find the characters they choose to focus on, storyline-wise in Gossip Girl this season, a bit odd. It seems, from press and websites, that Vanessa and Dan are probably among the least popular (along with Rufus), while Chuck, Blair and Serena the most lauded among fans. And yet, every week I seem to be having to sit through more and more Dan and Vanessa screen time… when ratings are a bit low, seems an odd time to try and push the less popular characters onto fans…

I just love how OTH still is the top show after 7 seasons.
All you Gossip Girl fans just can’t stand the fact that your show is about pointless people with so called fabulous lives. That’s not realistic. You want to know why OTH is the top show? Because people can relate to it. OTH may only have 2.3 million viewers but that’s a whole lot more than Melrose Place, 90210 or Gossip Girl. When it comes to renewal time, OTH will be saved first.

PatPrez – Every year, the last week of October, CBS airs reruns of all their series, and then November sweeps comes and then back to repeats for December. CBS does this to avoid running out of new episodes.

Why the freaking crap does FOX insist on this nonsense of “we won’t let House episodes go on the internet until 8 days after the episode is aired, so if you miss it, you’re screwed!” I mean seriously, this is just screwing people over for the hell of it, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who recorded 45 minutes of baseball coverage last night who’s ticked right now. Please noone take this offensively, but does noone know how to use a remote control or a TV guide? Now, I watch a variety of TV shows on the three main channels we have in Australia. Now, on one channel we have 2.5 Men at 7:30, then Big Bang Theory 8pm then The Mentalist 8:30. Now seeing as I don’t watch The Mentalist, I use my remote, and a TV guide, switch over to another channel and watch FlashForward to watch a TV show I do like. So what I’d like to know is… why are lead ins so important, or is it as humans, we are unable to change the channel?

Heroes ratings are dismal to me. A 2.5 and less that 6 million viewers? Not good for such an expensive show. I had watched its previous seasons but decided not to bother this season, especially since they killed off Nathan for the awful Sylar character. Heroes had a great first season but hasn’t been good since then for me.

I think GG’s audience is just too young or college oriented to accurately record. Most people watch it online. Just look at itunes sales. GG is currently #1 while OTH is #5. Even GG’s episode from last week is still in the top 15, while OTH’s is somewhere down in the 70s. I would think that is indicative of other forms of online viewership. GG might not have as big an audience as OTH during it’s timeslot, but I bet it has a higher total overall.

A lot of the late night shows have repeats the week before ratings which start next week. Daily Show usually has a week off during ratings. Not sure why. This time they are off too. Don’t know why they are doing that either since it was not too long ago that they had three weeks off.

Shame baseball screwed up Houses numbers last night. It was a really great episode. I see the 8pm hr was 14mil for the game overrun, people did not want to hang around watching baseball, when they wanted to see House. I live on the west coast, so we saw the show at the normal time 8pm PST. Did fox give enough notice on the east coast that House and Lie to me would be shown after the game?

@Jon K — I understand that The CW relies on the female demo, but to say that total viewers doesn’t matter just isn’t the case. If GG is beating OTH in the female demo but less than 2 million people overall are watching it… the advertisers still won’t be happy. OTH is performing just fine in the female demo and is managing to stay about the 2 mill mark … it’s clearly in much better shape.

I wish that ABC would really push a promotion for Castle. The show has some very good points. It has romance potential. It has a teenage girl who actually isn’t played as a basket case or a snot, just a nice kid trying to grow up. The supporting characters are likable, even Susan Sullivan’s self absorbed mom persona is still likable. Last I saw it had a good balance between the characters interaction and the plot line. I hope they give it some more time. I don’t know if moving it, if that becomes a possibility, would help it. Too bad they couldn’t show it some Sunday night along with Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters and see if that audience just might not have gone out of their way to check it out.

I think Heroes is having it’s best season since Season one. The last two have been garbage, but I actually am enjoying this year. Ratings aside, the quality of the show seems to be improving.

Not much you can do with the House and LTM numbers. I had LTM on my DVR and didn’t adjust accordingly so I missed the episode or most of it.

The Big Bang Theory is really a machine though. I’ve been watching it since episode one and it’s just a really funny and well thought out show. It’s proof that if you put out quality, viewers will tune into it.

Heh… if there’s a show that can “grow”, it’s Castle. It’s still rock solid in the ratings, which is not that good, but is far from bad in this TV climate. Story-wise, they have barely scratched the surface. The sales of the book “Heat Wave” are showing that there’s huge merchandising crossover potential there. Hell, Nathan Fillion did a book signing yesterday, I’m guessing in character. As was said a million times already, the chemistry among the cast is awesome, the humor is excellent, and still the murder mysteries are engaging and fun to decipher for the procedural fans. It’s hardly an asset to be easily discarded.

There are far too much of the same type of shows currently on the CW. The WB had a good mixture of different type of shows but at the end there were all targeted towards the market that mattered and a few of us oldies also tuned in. None of the new shows that Dawn Ostroff has brought in have been anywhere close to a success. If my understanding serves me correctly the Vampire Diaries was included in the schedule because Les Moonves wanted it. had the decision been left to Dawn Ostroff she would have kept it off. In my opinion she should have capitalised on whats left of Smallville as a show and come up with a spin-off to that show for this season and put both of those shows back to back on a Wed or Thurs night. Left Fri to the WWE and the weekend schedule to the local networks. Body Politic and Life Unexpected on Monday or Tues nights. Of the current 4 remaining shows I’d probably go with OTH and MP on the other night just because I think the others are awful. But thats just me…

*hides his head*I watched the OC, the main problem with the show was they did like 5 seasons worth of storylines in the first season. By Season 2 we basically seen everything that they could have built up to by the first season.

The show felt like the McDonalds of teen angst shows with all it’s quick plots.

A lot of shows on ABC skewing to the older audience. On DWTS, they are having the couples dance ‘sexier’ to heat things up….in hopes to attract more of the younger audience.

Actually, if it ends at 2.3, it’ll be level with its season premiere. It’s shown no demo growth at all.

It premiered last season with a 3.0 in the demo and almost 11mil viewers. Subsequently it got 2.9, 2.5, 2.4, 2.3, 1.9, 2.1, 2.0, 2.8, and ended the first season with a 2.4–the lower ratings are from when it didn’t have DWTS as a lead-in.

It’s just a very old-skewing show.

And in spite of great network support, strong lead-ins, and easy timeslots, it’s just not growing.

As a fan of Smallville, alot of us feel animosity towards her because she treats the show like the redheaded stepchild of the family(moving it to Friday, not promoting it at all, etc). It’s my belief the only reason the show is on air and probably will get a 10th season is because the WB sees it as a cash cow.

It doesn’t help that all the shows she created seem to have a common pattern(ie rich white oversexed females, go girlpower). While I don’t have anything against her market plan of targetting W18-34, you think she might realize that females in that demographic group might enjoy more then that template(VD is a good example of a show that doesn’t fall into that category and is the most successful show she created, it might be in her best interest to try create shows of other genres to target W18-34 at this point)

I use to watch OTH out of habit but its really become a great show since the time jumped at the start of Season 5. All the new characters are strong and I’m happy with the show in general. GG is no longer my ‘must watch’ show as I typically watch it randomly throughout the week. I look forward to 90201 now more than GG. The plotlines are just way to wacky and I’m tired of the billionaires with problems.

Well if I want to watch murders I can turn on the local news. I am burnt out on the lets solve a murde case, or having this sick and twisted world shoved in my face.

CSI, Medium, Castle, L&O and any other cop show is all about the crazies in the world. I prefer to go to bed not thinking about how some crazy psycho killed some innocent people. I am not prone to glorfying evil. That is why I won’t watch Dexter, True blood, Vampire Diaries.

I do enjoy shows like Chuck, Lost, BBT, Burn Notice, Glee, Modern Family.

So I don’t think I will be watching this but thanks for the heads up.

Man, I just love it when great TV shows become a mainstream success. Congrats to TBBT! I’s say TBBT and Hous are the only good shows left that really get the great numbers. Then there are good shows with great numbers, such as 2.5 Men, The Simpsons and Lost.
