I knew the Forgotten would drop a bit in finals.
So even if The Good Wife stays as the highest rated show of the 10PM hour on Tuesday, it could still be canceled by next season?
omg @ ncis
just wow
DJ, yes. The competition for renewal is within CBS, Good Wife is competing with loser broadcast shows in its timeslot, beating losers will not get you renewed. And Good Wife wasn’t the top rated show last night, the baseball playoffs were (subject to adjustment in the final numbers).
DJ, yes, in danger because it is still one of CBS lowest-rated shows. The good news is that it has all season to work on growing.
Oh, I wasn’t really considering the baseball numbers since that isn’t a scripted show. Unless it is and I didn’t know it? =p Thanks for the replies.
It would be a disgrace if the Good Wife gets cancelled. I really believe it is a quality show. And, the overall numbers are good, especially for a new show.
I don’t think CBS would be unhappy with The Good Wife. It’s the clear winner of its slot, critically acclaimed and since its marketing was rather quiet, I don’t think they spent a lot of money on it.
If it stays around 2,7-3 and 11-13 million viewers, it will surely get a second season. If they wanna improve the slot next year, they might put it on Friday and cancel Numbers, but again, I think CBS should be very pleased by its performance on Tuesdays.
But if for some reason they would really cancel it, I’m sure it would find a new home in a heartbeat – a’la Medium.
Since the good wife is produced by CBS Television Studios i very much doubt that phantom.
The thing no one is taking into consideration is that CBS is one of the few networks that can cancel mediocre performing shows due to the fact that the rest of it’s lineup is so strong. The Good Wife would be a hit on some other networks with it’s rating, but for CBS it’s only mediocre. Accidentally on Purpose is in the same boat, yes Accidentally’s demo is decent, but for CBS Monday it’s only mediocre so while I believe both shows will get full season orders (Good Wife already has it’s full season ordered) I doubt that either one will be renewed for 2010-11.
And for those that think Good Wife will end up at another network, keep in mind that those sort of moves rarely happen. The only reason CBS picked up Medium, and ABC picked up Scrubs was because those shows are produced by their respective networks studios and both wanted more episodes for syndication. Why would NBC or anyone else want to pickup Good Wife if CBS cancels it after it’s first season, when it’s produced by CBS? There isn’t really any motive for another network to pick it up.
I do not watch “the forgotten” but it seems like such an unfortunate name for a show….maybe “the forgettable” would be worse?!
It’s sad, that Without a Trace got cancelled and Accidentally on Purpose and The Good Wife are at the low-end for CBS, while NBC would probably kill for any of those shows and ratings at the moment.
They should really get some of CBS’s developmental execs.
phantom I agree NBC needs to improve it’s development. The sad thing is even if these shows where on NBC I doubt that they would get anywhere near the same ratings that they get on CBS.
Close to Home and Eleventh Hour were decent performing shows on CBS that got canceled because their numbers are not good enough compared to the rest of the CBS line up. The Good Wife’s ratings are solid but low compared to the other CBS shows. If it managed to climb to 3.0-3.5 range then I think it’s safe for a second season renewal. But it is still too early to get judge hopefully the show could perform well, I like it.
Amazing numbers for NCIS as usual, I hope it could cross 5.0 demo soon
So CBS finally has a multi-episodical TV show that is the top rated of its time slot and theres talk of cancelling it… Is it just me or is it in 2009 we struggle to remember things that happened a month ago, because all I see these days on TV is that reality TV crap and crime shows that are all the exact same, 45 mins of investigation, killer(s) get killed or arrested due to police involvement, where are the days of TV shows where somebody has taken time to write and have storylines that extend past the timeline of one episode?
am i wrong, or the good wife gets better numbers than CSY NY? why is it in danger?
Hanna, you are in fact wrong. CSI: NY does better. Not hugely so (~7%) but still better.
