One of the shows I wound up getting (mostly) caught up on over the summer was CBS' Numb3rs. Though its ratings have waned a bit this season on CBS at 10pm Fridays, it traditionally won its time slot since we started this blog and since it is a show called Numb3rs and we're a site about numbers I figured I ought to give it a look.
I've been meaning to post some numbers since Numb3rs started airing reruns on TNT a few weeks ago, and I keep getting reminded mostly by Numb3rs characters showing up on other shows. First Diane Farr (who played Megan Reeves on Numb3rs) shows up on Californication and tonight I was like "Wha!? Amita (played by Navi Rawat) is on FlashForward!?" I noticed she hadn't been in Numb3rs much this season and wondered what was up.
So, here are the numbers for last week's airings of Numb3rs repeats on TNT (10/12 to 10/16). It looks like they had a bit of a marathon Friday evening, but I'm not sure if that's the ongoing schedule. The schedule the next couple of weeks according to my program guide is two episodes every day Monday-Friday at 2pm and 3pm.

Are those numers good for TNT? This week’s timeslot change has me worried. It was airing at 5pm, now it’s being pushed back to 2pm.
Hi Robert,
I watch Californication too and Megan (Diane Farr) being in it wasn’t exactly a surprise, as those of us who follow Numb3rs (even from the other side of the pond) had known about it for a while. I didn’t know about Amita (Navi Rawat) being in FlashForward though as I’m still to catch up on FF this year. So that’ll be a nice surprise when I get around to that. There’s just so much on Thursdays with Mentalist, Fringe, NCIS, CSI, etc.
But as Nick and More! has said, are those numbers good for TNT? How much do they pay CBS for re-run priviliges and will that help Numb3rs next summer with being renewed for a possible seventh season? As you say, seeing as Amita’s also of FF and there wasn’t enough money for Peter MacNicol (Larry) to be in every episode this season, should the Numb3rs universe be concerned seeing as CBS is so dominant on Friday nights and Numb3rs is winning the 10pm slot?
Until tomorrow then, when you post the ratings for how tonight’s episode does CBS…
What do you mean? Amita’s been on this season of Numb3rs as much as she usually is…
I have to say, I don’t miss Megan at all.
I hope we get a bit of the NCIS effect, and these reruns help boost first-run broadcast numb3rs. I’ve been waiting for reruns for a coupla years now.
I think these reruns will definitely payoff for numbers in the long run. I watched the entire first three seasons of Bones on TNT and the first few seasons of CSI NY on Spike. I caught up with both shows and started watching them first-run last season. Sometimes people want to check out a show but don’t want to buy the DVD’s and this is a good way for them to do so.
Aside: The only two shows I bought the DVD for after having seen only one episode of each are Psych and Supernatural. It was money well spent.
I am REALLY enjoying Numb3rs on TNT. I originally caught on with the show after it was already underway, so I never saw the earliest first season episodes until they were on TNT last week. I hope it does well and continues, and as others have mentioned, I hope it bolsters the show’s “numb3rs” on Friday nights.
As for Navi Rawat on FlashForward, I enjoyed that as well! :^)
I believe on a Friday (possibly the Friday with the abnormally high ratings above) that playoff baseball (and its studio show) preempted certain episodes of a Numb3rs marathon on TNT.
The Diane Farr episodes were the best of the series. NUMB3RS overall seems to be doing well but I need to look at the other TNT shows so I can see a comparisons.
Does anybody have those TNT numbers and SPIKE’s CSI: numbers. I think CSI: and CSI: NY must be doing good b/c they replay them a lot.

Except for the horrible time compression being done on the early episodes, that has the entire cast sounding like Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Folks, unfortunately I lack a good way to do the analysis on how Numb3rs fared in those slots historically against other shows on TNT without spending hours on it. Unfortunately I don’t have access to the historical Nielsen database that makes running queries that generate comparisons fairly routine.
As for the show moving to 2pm and 3pm, that doesn’t strike me as a particularly great time slot, but I don’t know that it wasn’t always the plan, TNT runs stuff like ER and Las Vegas earlier than 2pm and will have Law & Order and Bones in the 5pm and 6pm time slots. It could have been the plan all along to put Numb3rs at 5p & 6p for a couple of weeks before moving it for all I know.
Does anybody know how the numbers for Charmed are doing on TNT i love that show and watch it M-F 8-11
Paul, you are right about the preemption of Numb3rs marathon for baseball. I was watching baseball and turned for the second game. The first game went overtime and the next game was underway and it preempted Numb3rs. So, I’m sure he numbers are a bit off because of it.
I was thinking 2pm was a decent TNT timeslot. Law & Order aired in the 2pm and 3pm timeslot for years (in addition to other timeslots), so I would consider any L&O timeslot a good one. But I don’t have any data to back that up, but I guess I’m saying, I wouldn’t consider it a throwaway timeslot because of this.
There was no preemption for last Friday’s Numb3rs (numbers above) by the NLCS.
There *was* a preemption for the original Sunday marathon almost two weeks ago during the LDS games because there were two games (one was on TBS and when that game didn’t end “on time” the next game cut into Numbers on Sunday October 11), but I never got around to posting those numbers. For what it’s worth, Nielsen correctly accounted for that preemption though.
It looks like TNT has moved Charmed and Vegas to earlier in the day to create a crime block with Numb3rs, Cold Case, Law & Order, and Bones. Even though Numb3rs has the 2+3pm timeslots, they could still do “mini-marathons” of it in primetime, like they used to do for L&O and currently do for Bones.
