  • Despite moving back an hour earlier this year into the 8 o’clock hour, ABC’s Supernanny drew 12% more viewers than its year-ago Friday season premiere at 9pm coming out of Wife Swap (4.7 million vs. 4.2 million on 10/3/08).  Supernanny topped its Fox competition in the time period (Brothers/’Til Death) by 2.5 million viewers (4.7 million vs. 2.2 million) and by 57% in Adults 18-49 (1.1/4 vs. 0.7/3).
  • Showing solid retention of its week-earlier season opener (88% in Viewers/86% in AD18-49), ABC’s Ugly Betty built on its Adult 18-49 lead-in to defeat Fox’s established drama Dollhouse in the 9 o’clock hour by 50% (1.2/4 vs. 0.8/3).

Wow, way to spin beating Dollhouse as an accomplishment!

  2. johnthemon

@Tommy, they’ll take what they can get!

  3. Gabe

Since when is Dollhouse an established drama. They make DH look like a mediocre hit which was beaten by this huge mega hit called Ugly Betty.

  4. joe

lol Tommy. But, I love UGLY BETTY.

  5. cool

I love UB, but the numbers are pretty awful. Seeing as how ABC still has something invested it in, they should move it to Wednesday at 10pm, where it couldn’t do much worse than Eastwick. It’s audience is down 50% year-over-year at this point – ABC can’t leave it where it is.

Then again, Fridays started off slowly for ABC last year too, then built slowly.

Some websites are putting rumors out their that UB may be moving to a cable channel in the future. with disney acquireing lifetime again in some capacity, it could make sense. abc is also really pushing bettys second airing on the tv guide channel (new episodes from this season air on the network on wednesdays @ 9pm)

they have been talking about testing rebroacastings of current network shows on cable for awhile, it’ll be interesting to see if anything comes of it and if they expand that to other shows. its a bit odd of abc to enter this agreement with lionsgate and ugly betty going into a season where you could predict a big ratings fall with the friday move.

at the same time, lionsgate is looking to grow is television profile… it puts alot of interesting dynamics into play, maybe even the show being sold to lionsgate? who knows…

I think that’s just for repeats, Stargate. UB’s a fairly expensive hour. Subtracting salaries, it’s got to be one of the most expensive hours – the sets are gorgeous and big, and there are lots of exterior shots. UB’s bet shot at surviving to the end of the season is if ABC moves it to another night.

  10. don

dollhouse is dead fox pulled it thabk god its not returning untill december and hopefully it will take doa brothers and till death to there grave supernanny rocks ugly bettty sucks take that fox

  11. Anna

screw you don, Ugly Betty rocks. Maybe you’d know that if you watched the show.
I pray that another network picks up Betty, or a cable one, when it gets cancelled. Orrrr ABC should really move the show to it’s “comedy wednesday” or replace Eastwick with Betty. UB is really a great show and its sad to see it do so bad on fridays, but then again, its friday. What do you expect.
