Bill & Robert: As I understand what you’ve been saying – this really doesn’t matter? It’s just PR spin.
AZTop, after a recent conversation with the head of research at a broadcast network, he was willing to say that perhaps 10% of the ratings increase from Live+SD to LIve+7 could be said to have an impact on the C+3 commercial ratings. So it’s not no effect, but it’s *almost* no effect on the revenue potential for a show.
The fact The Mentalist is the most DVRed show compared to most of the CBS lineup does suggest to me that people are still watching it but the slot is too late. I’m not sure how it would fare against Grey’s at 9pm though.
It wouldn’t surprise if CBS starts experimenting with putting The Mentalist at 9 either with repeats or with a new episode or two. ABC did with Grey’s in order to justify whether to move it to Thursday a few years ago.
The Mentalist isn’t necessarily on too late. People are probably making other real time choices, or they are watching earlier shows recorded on Thursday since Thursday is a very heavy recording night.
Actually I like The Mentalist in its present time slot because for me there is no conflict there, whereas last year on Tuesdays I had a choice to make between CBS and Fox.
Of course CBS is prepping The Mentalist for 9pm. Given that it’s a whopping 8 years younger than CSI, that’s a no-brainer. The Mentalist has a future; CSI doesn’t. That’s not to say that CSI is not important to CBS, it’s just that it’s less and less important every season. This season, CBS’s big money-maker is Monday, it’s highest rated line-up in adults 18-49 and 18-34.
Does CBS count DVR ratings too? I mean do they add this with the other ratings to the episode?
Um, what good is it counting the number of viewers who watched a show via DVR… I’m sure the advertisers don’t care, because if the people that are watching a show via DVR are like me, then they are skipping commercials.. Heck I don’t watch any ads the day the show airs either… I always start my viewing 30 minutes into a show to get a buffer so I can fast forward past those pesky ads…
on a side note, does this site have access to data that shows which network shows are most watched online, either via their network home(CBS.com, etc) or an agregator(TV.com, etc)… anyway, just curious…
thanks!
