THE VAMPIRE DIARIES

Effective this Wednesday The CW is dropping the repeats of Melrose Place and will instead air repeats of The Vampire Diaries on Wednesdays at 9pm during November (except for the two hour America's Next Top Model finale on Wednesday, November 18).

This is a move many people expected as The Vampire Diaries has been the brightest spot on CW's lineup this fall and Melrose Place...hasn't been.   Some are hopeful that Heather Locklear's return in November will change Melrose's fate.

What happens after November is another story, The CW has not yet announced its Wednesday plans for December.

    they should have done that from the start guess they wanted to save Melrose Place and now they gave up on it

  2. This is a shift from “let’s try and save MP” to “let’s just get the best ratings we can for the Nov. sweeps”.

    That being the case, I wouldn’t be surprised if MP moves back after the Nov. sweeps.

    Please Please let VD do better on Wed. and lets get back Samllville to its Thursday spot

    Finally!
    @Gabriela
    They are just talking encores not replacing MP with TVD, new episodes still air on Thursday.

  5. Gabriela

    I know thay are encores, but still who knows and they do better on Wed (demos or something). I still have hopes Smallville is pulled out of Death slot

  6. Tar

    VD Repeats do better than Melrose originals so there is no doubt VD repeats > MP repeats

  7. JamesBond

    Awesome job crediting where you got this story.

    There is no doubt that TVD repeats will do better than MP repeats but I doubt that it would influence the CW’s decision to put Smallville back on Thursday. TVD is doing fantastic on Thursday, especially in the CW beloved women’s demo, too good to change it, I’m afraid.
    @gabriela I wish Smallville all the best. I think it’s doing a better job than all the other CW shows on Friday, so even with much lower ratings than last year, I think the CW is pretty happy with Smallville. It’s just a pity that it’s paired with an ANTM encore.

    I will wish you all the best on smallville. But it is now season 8 and he is still NOT flying. The show is starting to bore me and I am sure I am not the only one. I like smallville don’t get me wrong, but they keep on the train they are going and it can only hold viewers interest for so long. I do not think Friday is killing smallville’s ratings.

    I think the MP repeats will take back the Weds time slot once November Sweeps is out of the way.
    I also think that since the MP repeats started on Weds the ratings for the Tuesday episode have nose dived, maybe getting rid of the repeat will force some of the people who are watching the repeat to watch the show on tuesday.

    I would be happy to see just about anything replace repeats of MP. Heck, I am still hoping for something worthwhile to replace the new eps of MP. I’d like to see a decent show on after 90210 and new MPs on after ANTM.

  13. KVac

    Kat….it’s Season 9 of Smallville not 8

  14. phantom

    I think it is rather stupid. They should have tried a few original MP-episodes in the post-ANTM slot so it could have gained new viewers. If it doesn’t work out, at least they tried, with the “back5″ they definitely aren’t over it yet. Now a great lead-in – and CW doesn’t have many of them – will be wasted on an already succesful show’s repeats.

  15. Fire Dawn

    Kat…look at Ugly Betty, it’s lost about 30-40 percent of it’s audience from last year by moving to Friday. Terminator lost a similar percentage of people moving to Fridays as well. Do you honestly believe if Smallville was on a better night it would pull the exact numbers it’s pulling on Friday?

    As for this move, I would have moved MP to Wednesday and did the VD diaries repeats on Tuesdays

  16. Gloria

    I am happy with this.

  17. Tar

    all of The CW seems to be going into repeats starting November 21th for the rest of the month + all december according to the futoncritic

  18. Bellezabble

    Ya’ll, you do NOT want Smallville back on Thursdays against Bones and especially against Flash Forward, and soon, V. Wednesday might be better, if you’re going to hope for another night, although you still have to go up against Glee. At least Glee isn’t direct competition for sci fi chicks audience. At this point, I doubt the CW is going to undercut a show that could have some life in it when SV has only this season left in it, or at a best case scenario, one more year.

  19. Kat

    Sorry season 9 then which makes the fact that he is still NOT flying even worse. I’ve watched every season but I don’t care if I miss an episode that’s how boring it’s getting. As to do I really think the ratings would stay the same? Yes I do think they would stay the same if they moved because honestly the ratings for smallville look exactly like the ratings I remember reading last year for smallville. But then I always looked at the amount of viewers not the 18-49 mess that I think is a stupid system anyways. It still has the same number of viewers as it did before or round abouts. But it just gets worse and worse. Lex got wrote off and it went to boring lana that should have been written off at the same time and STAYed off. Sorry but the show has lived way past it’s prime. It is no longer interesting. Even on a Tuesday night when there is absolutely NOTHING (worth watching that is) on now it probably wouldn’t do any better than it is already. Those that want it to stay good luck to you but to me, even though I actually watch it, it would mean about as much to me as medium going away, which is absolutely nothing. They have both lived past their prime.

    @Gabriela

    I agree with you, hopefully TVD does a lot better on Wednesday and Smallville can go back to Thursdays and then they air repeats on Fridays. Or, they just move Smallville to Wednesdays @ 9
