Disney Channel Garners Double-Digit Year-to-Year Percent Gains in Total Day for the 7th Straight Month in Viewers, and in 7 of the Previous 8 Months in Key Kid Demos

Home to the month’s Top 5 TV telecasts, and 17 of the Top 20, including original episodes of hit series The Suite Life on Deck,” “Hannah Montana” and “Wizards of Waverly Place,” Disney Channel stood as TV’s No. 1 network in Total Day for the 7th straight month in Tweens 9-14 (503,000/2.1 rating).  In fact, as of the week of 10/19/09, Disney Channel has ranked No. 1 on a Total Day basis for 6 consecutive weeks in the key demo, and for 23 of the past 24 weeks overall.

Delivering the month’s Top 3 TV telecasts, and the No. 1 regularly scheduled TV series with “Phineas and Ferb,” Disney Channel was also TV’s No. 1 network in Total Day in Kids 6-11 (617,000/2.5 rating), recording its largest October audience in the net’s history in the key demo.

Growing its Total Day audience by double-digit percentages in Total Viewers for an impressive 7th straight month, October 09 qualified as Disney Channel’s most-watched October on record in Total Viewers (21% - 1.7 million vs. 1.4 million).  In key kids, the net also posted double-digit percent gains, increasing its audience year to year for the 8th consecutive month in Kids 6-11 (21% - 617,000 vs. 512,000) and Tweens 9-14 (14% - 503,000 vs. 441,000), including by double-digit percentages in 6 of the previous 8.

Disney Channel delivered cable’s No. 1 spot in Prime for the 56th consecutive month in Kids 6-11 (1.2 million/4.7 rating) and the 55th in Tweens 9-14 (949,000/3.9 rating).

October 09 Program Highlights

  • The 1-hour special of “The Suite Life on Deck” (10/2/09, 8:00 – 9:00 p.m.), which posted series highs across all key demos, ranked as October’s No. 1 TV telecast in Kids 6-11 (3.5 million/14.3 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (3.2 million/13.1 rating), and cable’s No. 1 scripted telecast in Total Viewers (7.6 million).
  • In Total Viewers, Disney Channel aired cable’s Top 2 non-sports telecasts with “The Suite Life on Deck (7.6 million, 10/2/09, 8:00 – 9:00 p.m.) and Hannah Montana (5.7 million, 10/18/09, 7:30 – 8:00 p.m.).
  • In Tweens 9-14, Disney Channel owned TV’s Top 5 telecasts in October 09:The Suite Life on Deck” (3.2 million/13.1 rating, 10/2/09, 8:00 – 9:00 p.m.), “Hannah Montana” (2.3 million/9.4 rating, 10/18/09, 7:30 – 8:00 p.m.), “The Suite Life on Deck” (2.1 million/8.6 rating, 10/23/09, 8:30 – 9:00 p.m.), “The Suite Life on Deck” (2.0 million/8.3 rating, 10/2/09, 7:30 – 8:00 p.m.) and “Wizards of Waverly Place” (1.9 million/8.0 rating, 10/9/09, 8:30 – 8:30 p.m.).
  • In Kids 6-11, Disney Channel held TV’s Top 3 telecasts in October 09: “The Suite Life on Deck” (3.5 million/14.3 rating, 10/2/09, 8:00 – 9:00 p.m.), “The Suite Life on Deck” (2.4 million/9.8 rating, 10/2/09, 7:30 – 8:00 p.m.) and “Wizards of Waverly Place” (2.3 million/9.2 rating, 10/9/09, 8:00 – 8:30 p.m.).
  • Phineas and Ferbstood as TV’s No. 1 program in October 09 in Kids 6-11 (1.20 million/4.9 rating) and the No. 1 animated program on all TV in Tweens 9-14 (932,000/3.8 rating)
