As expected Castle dropped (perhaps more than some expected) a few ticks to a 2.5.   But a REPEAT of The Big Bang Theory rises to a 3.8 rating.  Most impressive for a REPEAT.  It was the highest-rated 18-49 program of the night.  A REPEAT!

  1. Holly

soo…you’re saying Big Bang Theory was a repeat last night?

  2. Chris

Castle is still up a tick from last week so thats good

  3. Holly

The bad news for Castle fans is that it dropped in the finals. The good news is that it still hit season highs in viewers and the demo.

  4. Ryan47

Castle is becoming the tortoise of the famous childhood tale. It just keeps plodding along as others zoom ahead and then eventually burn themselves out and fall back. Castle continues slow and steady growth each week, and ABC can’t say that about many of their other newer series.

And we all know who won the tortoise’s race. ;-)

  5. Lee

I’m sure someone will run along quickly and talk about how Castle is flat again but the 2.5 is a season high. I don’t know if that’s enough for ABC but it’s rising slowly. It’s much better looking than the 2.2 it was drawing early on.

  6. BTW, did I mention last night’s TBBT was a REPEAT?

    :-D

  7. Tom

About what I thought Castle would drop to. Although it was up, it wasn’t up much vs. weaker competition. Still not sure I am willing to put Castle in the “veterans slowly recovering” category SVU, B&S, etc. appear to be in.

BBT has already dropped into the category of “no longer capable of surprise” along with NCIS Original and AI. Just stand in awe at this point.

  8. @ryan47: amen brother. I couldn’t have said it better myself.

ABC must know they have a little gem of a show in Castle and that cancelling it next summer would be a heinous mistake.

  9. steven

Castle is still up from last week, so that’s good!

  10. Todd

The Big Bang Theory is sizzling hot. The # 1 show in the demo for the night for a repeat. Oh baby !

  11. Kind of disappointed for Castle, but if it rises every week, it should be safe.

  12. Eddie

Did you guys see the final ratings from Sunday for the 4pm NFL game that FOX had. 28.39 million viewers and a 10.7 rating in the 18-49 demo. That is incredible. It is hard to find out those numbers. Thanks for putting me on to Travis, Robert.

IDK, if next week Castle posts a 2.6 and the week after that a 2.7 then I may have to go with the tortoise theory and admit that it’s working, but if it just falls right back on it’s ass as soon as Miami is new, what can it really get for this smallest increase ever?
Will ABC really think, yeah, it’s a shit show marginally better than The Forgotten or Eastwick, but when it is up against absolutely no competiton whatsoever it has a potential of 10m viewers and a 2.5 demo- YAY?

  14. Budo

idizzle, if, say, Jon and Kate Plus Hate is the only thing on, no competition, would you watch it even though it’s not your thing at all? It’s not about what a hypothetical show COULD be doing in the time-slot, it’s about what Castle IS doing in it. Though not large, it has a solid following week in. week out, and keeps growing, albeit marginally. I’ve said this many times on this site – would you throw away 10 million people and take a, say, Trauma sized gamble? I don’t really think ABC is THAT desperate yet.

  15. Holly

The Castle situation right now is more of a “bird in the hand” scenario than a “tortise/hare” story. It’s a known quatity to ABC and that definitely has its good points. They aren’t going to cancel it if they have a lot of open spots on the schedule. On the other hand, if V, Deep End, and whatever other mid-season shows they have do well, then ABC has more room to gamble with that time slot and Castle’s steady-though-mediocre numbers won’t save it.

  16. marc

    I don’t think it was a repeat….

Penny and what’s his name have only been kissing this season.

    And they kissed.

    Meaning it’s this season.

    And it was new.

  17. idizzle

The funny thing is I do watch Jon and Kate from time to time. I am not running around on the intrawebs proclaiming it to be the best thing since The Wire and everyone who does not watch it dumb, but hell, I watch it and I am hardly the only one. Sometimes TV snobs just need to get of their high horse.

My point was more that this isn’t a huge increase in Castle ratings and unless it’s going to posts similar increases every week, this week is pretty much a moot point in any Castle discussion. With it’s usual ratings it may be the bird in the hand as Holly says, but this week hardly proves it’s steadily improving. Because it’s not.

    As for

  18. Marc, according to The Futon Critic, it was a repeat of season 2, episode 10.

  19. idizzle

As for the roughly 9m viewers, ABC never axed a show that was watched that much. It’s what saved Women’s Murder Club after all.

    Wait….

  20. marc

WHAT? makes no sense! I am sure i have never missed an episode!!!!
