With Big Sports Sunday, Fox Sweeps Week 5 Primetime Demos
The sports gods cooperated for Fox on Sunday night with a close NFL game running almost an hour into primetime, right up to the start of the Yankees clinching ALCS Game 6. That big Sunday night gave them enough ratings boost to sweep the adult demographic ratings averages for the fifth week of the broadcast primetime season ending October 25, 2009. They were far ahead in adults 18-49 and 18-34, and beat typically strong CBS in adults 25-54. CBS still managed to narrowly win the overall average viewership for the week.
CBS had received 3 Sunday primetime football overruns in the first 4 weeks of the season, but missed out this week and its average shows the effects as it just beat ABC and NBC in the important adults 18-49 rating average.
Note that the chart includes RATINGS not VIEWERSHIP as was typical in our weekly network ratings posts prior to July, 2009.

Each rating point is a percentage of the US TV population in that demographic group and equals: 2.90 million viewers, 1.32 million adults 18-49, 0.68 million adults 18-34 and 1.24 million adults 25-54.
Sadly, we will no longer be having a Tiny Network Showdown! since MyNetworkTV ratings averages are not being reported by Nielsen, since they are no longer classed as a network but are now a “programming service”.
