Ah December.  Dancing with the Stars goes away for a while and the Renew/Cancel Index gets at least a little holiday season nutmeg spice as Scrubs and Better Off Ted make their returns.  The Index should have had enough time to heal from the stinging Scrubs dealt it by predicting doom for Scrubs practically every week last season.  Since then the Index has learned to play it at least  a bit faster and looser with 30 minute sitcoms.

Scrubs will return with double episodes on Tuesday, December 1 from 9pm to 10pm, and then Better Off Ted will take the 9:30p slot on December 8.

Love these shows, and I don’t watch anything at that time currently.
With “V” and these two shows, I’m gonna have to switch from watching mostly CBS to ABC!

  2. Spartan

Still surprised that Better Off Ted was renewed, but happy either way, I will enjoy all the eps I can get. Sounds like it will start to air in a down time for alot of shows, sounds good to me.

  3. Finally something to watch on Tuesdays. For a very brief period of time, at least. I’ll miss you, Ted!

Both will be low rated sadly. I’m surprised they scheduled its airing this early. I hope there will be enough promotion on November.

Does it also mean these shows will have new episodes all throughout December? I guess ABC knows both shows will not be ratings winner so they scheduled it on December due to low expectations

I love Better Off Ted, I wish it would do better but not holding my breath it would drastically improve. Looking forward to the new episodes and wacky Veridian commercials :D

Scrubs might get a slight bump in the ratings for the season 9 premiere because people might be curious with the new format of the show.

    Predictions for the show.

    Scrubs – 5 million / 1.5 demo
    Better off Ted – 4 million / 1.3 demo

ABC should totally rearrange its Wednesday schedule to save Ted, even if it kills the other shows in the process.

  6. Dan

I was waiting for this. I knew both would return in early December (with Ted’s DVD release on the 1st). Maybe after the first few episodes of each air ABC would move the two to wednesday at 8 and 8:30 and then air Lost at 9 Tuesdays.

  7. Jack, I like the way you think. NBC should do the same on Thursdays to save Community! ;)

  8. Jon

Scrubs will be interesting with the new characters and changes but to me, JD was the heart of Scrubs and without him, this is just another hospital comedy and really they should ended it last season.

Is it safe to say that CBS will vastly benefit from V and the Scrubs/Ted combo?

  9. Kyle

I was really hoping that V would be their lead-in but I think I am wrong!!

  10. forg

I hope Better Off Ted survives even if in the “Til Death” kind of way :D

  11. Dan

Forg – I expected it, just like how Jim returned after Dancing last year. Both comedies can get early exposure but while numbers will be severely low, Id combine it with the wednesday comedy block. At least the block will have some variety.

First Chuck in January, now Better Off Ted and Scrubs in December it looks like it really will be happy holidays. The Tuesday 9/8Central timeslot is perfect for me as I have nothing to watch during that time.

  13. rob

Glad Better Off Ted is coming back soon! V wont be their leadout. V will only air 4 episodes, Nov. 3, 10, 17, and 24. Scrubs leadout is an ABC holiday special Preps and Landing.

  14. Dan

Im hoping Ted survives. My guess is as long as ABC keeps Scrubs they will keep Ted, just to prove that they have comedies. If Ted somehow gets a third season it will be the first comedy since Hope & Faith to get a third year.

  15. Dan

Forg – The only difference between Death and Ted is that ABC burned off the remaining Season 1 episodes in the summer because they knew that the second season would look different from the first. Theres no cast changes or anything big but Season 2 of Better off Ted by ABC should be better. Scrubs is completely changed, however but hopefully they can hold up in the slot. FOX should have burned off Til Death’s episodes so they would have less episodes to go through. Why they would air repeats of the series over the summer when they could easily air originals is beyond me.

  16. Jon

It will be interesting how Scrubs 2.0 rates, ABC clearly want more episodes for syndication. I think ABC may axe it if it fails to make an impact but it wouldn’t surprise me if they kept it as a midseason filler.

  17. Tom

Doesn’t this guarantee (not that there was much doubt) that Bachelor will still air on Mondays in winter, with these two serving as Dancing Results filler?

I’d also say it further suggests the two hour Wed comedy block is no longer (Hank is gone, and neither of these will be filling in for it).

  18. Jon

Till Death is like ATJ where it’s a low rated show for renewed for syndication purposes, Sony must have given FOX a sweet deal to renew it because it’s ratings are beyond terrible and FOX have no reason to keep it.

  19. cool

V will end the week before (the same night as Dancing) so Scrubs will NOT have the V lead in.

  20. forg

Dan: Well it’s just wishful thinking on my part that Better Off Ted escapes death like Til Death did for years haha. It’s a long shot. I know the show will not be a ratings winner but I have little hope it would somehow survive. But if not, I just hope all the episodes ordered will be produced (how many was the order, 13?)
