NBC has effectively canceled Trauma opting not to give it a full season pick-up. The current plan is that the original order of 13 episodes will complete production and air, but no additional episodes will be ordered.
The move comes as no surprise, especially on the heels of a full season pick-up for Mercy.
This increases the odds of an early return for Chuck, likely in January. The Trauma news comes on the heels of NBC ordering six additional episodes of Chuck, which was originally scheduled to return in March. I'd look for its January return on Mondays at 8pm and for NBC to move Heroes to the 9pm time slot, just like last year.

Oh my God, this is too much Trauma for me to handle!!!
It seems strange to me to follow up this order of confidence with… putting it back in its death slot. I think Mercy’s just being kept for the reasons of not wanting to cancel all of their new dramas and the hope that maybe it’ll grow… but it’s certainly not going to have the buzz that Chuck has.
I say move Chuck to 8 on Wednesdays and move Mercy to Thursdays (probably at 8 too, Heroes is a little dark for 8 – it should go back to 9) I’d like to believe this is a sign that they’re anxious for Chuck to grow.
And by move Mercy to Thursdays… I, of course, meant Mondays.
and you wonder why i dont start any news shows
No surprise here, like 2007′s Journeyman and 2008′s My Own Worst Enemy, Trauma will air out all 13 episodes by December and then be replaced by Chuck.
Another one bites the dust
who is next? lol
mercy is next..if only trauma could have been on a network with a big budget
Brendan, Mercy already has a full season pickup…
Mercy has the advantage of a less competitive timeslot and lower price but Its doubtful the series will make it to a second season.
Well at least they will a chance to produce all episodes
Is it not a bit of a leap saying it is cancelled? alot of shows get renewed without showing 22 episodes, especially as it is sharing a timeslot on a struggling network in tough times. What am I missing?
It’s an awful show and deserves to be cancelled, but I’m glad I get to point and laugh at the remaining episodes. I just started to watch my tape of the most recent episode, the Halloween one, and had to stop partway through because my brain began to melt out of my ears. This is one tough show to watch. It’s so slow and dreary. Cancellation is totally warranted.
If the suits at NBC have a brain, they will leave Heroes at 8 and see if the lead-in can give Chuck some young viewers. Then, if the plan is successful, they can have Chuck be the tentpole on Mondays going forward, cancel the expensive Heroes, and try to find something better and/or cheaper for Monday 8pm next season (second comedy block?… I know, I know, too much to ask… CBS’ comedy block competition, blha blah blah…)
And if Heroes at 8pm, Chuck at 9pm DOESN’T work… well NBC should be used to things not working, so big deal
NBC always airs all the episodes of their axed dramas, since pulling Trauma and airing repeats would be worse. Like I have mentioned several times Trauma gets burned up in December, Chuck returns in Jan. The question is will Heroes move to 9:00 for its remaining January episodes so Chuck can premiere at 8, thats the likely scenario. The sched could look like this by March
Monday
8:00 Chuck
9:00 Heroes (Jan-Feb)
9:00 Persons Unknown (March-May)
10:00 The Jay Leno Show
Tuesday
8:00 The Biggest Loser
9:30 100 Questions
10:00 The Jay Leno Show
Wednesday
8:00 Mercy
9:00 Law & Order SVU
10:00 The Jay Leno Show
Thursday
8:00 Community
8:30 Parks & Recreation
9:00 The Office
9:30 30 Rock
10:00 The Jay Leno Show
Friday
8:00 Law & Order (Jan-Feb)
8:00 Perfect 10 or The Sing Off (March-May)
9:00 Dateline NBC
10:00 The Jay Leno Show
Sunday
8:00 Marriage Ref (Jan-Feb)
8:00 Parenthood (March-May)
9:00 Celebrity Apprentice
Marriage Ref only has 6 episodes so it will go by quickly. Its likely 100 Questions could premiere after Biggest Loser and should Loser expand to 2 Hours, Questions could fill the Parks void should NBC opt to replace it. NBC has a lot of holes to fill but Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are likely to stay the same as fall.
The 4 hour mini series Day One may air sometime around February, so it can fill the void left by Heroes, temporarily and give Chuck a 2 week hiatus.
David: Most shows that got renewed with less than 22 episodes on broadcast are on midseason. The only exceptions I could think of now are Pushing Daisies, Private Practice and Dirty Sexy Money that was renewed for a seconde with less than 13 episodes aired on 2007 but there was the writers’ strike then so it was a different case.
Not getting a back-nine is as good as canceled but at least it will have a chance to complete its order.
Looking at Trauma’s price tag it’s very decent from NBC to let them finish their 13 episodes.
I am worried a little about Chuck because Monday practically became the new Thursday (the day has 12 (!) ok-to great performers), but it has a great built-in audience (2-2,5 demo, 6-7 million total viewers) and that should be enough for NBC this season maybe for even a fourth season renewal.
Man about time, next up Three Rivers.
This is a bad decision to be honest with you guys. Trauma just needed a boost and it was in the wrong slot. Trauma should’ve been doubled up with Mercy on Wednesdays. Trauma seems to have kept or grown the same audience that Heroes had so it probably would’ve gotten 7 million viewers just like Mercy.
NBC cancelled another two shows that will haunt them in SouthLAnd and Trauma. The Third Watch curse continues.
If they wanted to cancel something, cancel the expensive Community and Parks & Recreation which aint doing shit.
