GHOST WHISPERER

Scoreboard CBS NBC ABC FOX CW
Rating/Share: Adults 18-49 1.9/6 1.4/5 1.4/5 1.2/4 0.8/3
Total Viewers (million) 7.90 6.70 5.44 3.76 1.94

FOX ran a two hour repeat of House last night, and over the two hours it averaged a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating and 3.6 million users.  For the night, with adults 18-49, that's a 50% improvement over the combo of new episodes of Brothers, 'Til Death and Dollhouse. And in the 9pm-10pm hour House averaged a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating - 62.5 percent better than Dollhouse did in the hour last week. The House rerun beat Ugly Betty with adults 18-49 as well.

Sorry Dollhouse fans :(

The CBS dramas were the strongest of the night, though still down across all hours versus last year.  But even being down versus last year, Ghost Whisperer's 2.0 with adults 18-49 was the best showing of the night.  Smallville pulled a 1.2 with adults 18-49, a season high , tying The Jay Leno Show, which was a series low.  Smallville could drop in the finals a bit, in the Chicago market a Chicago Bulls game aired. Its numbers would be included below but will be stripped out in the finals.

Some notes on Smallville from the CW:

  • Smallville climbed to it's best adults 18-49 (1.2/4), adults 18-34 (1.2/5-tie) and total viewers (2.6mil) of the season.
  • This also marks our best performance in the time period in those categories since Sept. 08 (last Smackdown telecast).
  • Smallville was #1 in the hour among men 18-34 (1.4/6) and men 18-49 (1.4/5).

Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

  1. ThinlyVeiledMetaphor

That has got to be a new 18-49 low for Leno

  2. it was

  3. GEORGE 11

is it a new series high for smallville????

  4. forg

Poor Betty ratings, numbers are still not improving and Supernanny outrated it :(

Smallville is doing relatively well on this night.

Although CBS still won, the fact that they are struggling to get 2.0 is just sad, I’m really afraid Friday will be another Saturday sooner.

  5. Fire Dawn

It should be noted the Chicago CW showed a Bulls game so Smallvilles number will go down when the finals come in

  6. John

House got more viewers, but the demo remains around the same area.

  7. Doug (2)

ABC needs to get UB off of Fridays. A loss in viewership was expected, but these ratings are ridiculous for a show that was opening Thursdays with a 2.0 in adults at the end of last season. ABC can do better on Fridays with Wife Swap, and UB could, most likely, outrate Eastwick on Wednesdays. The Wednesday 9pm comedies must do well in young women, correct? That’s UB’s key demo.

  8. George, yes it was.

John, you have rose-colored memory. a 1.3 is not the same as a .8.

Sure, Dollhouse USED to get 1.3′s (and even higher), but that was last year. Comparing how House did last night to how Dollhouse did last year seems silly though. Much easier and better to just compare it to last week.

  9. GEORGE 11

actually ugly betty was stable vs last week!thats good!!!

  10. Mumbo

These numbers seem lousy even for a Friday. Except Numb3rs, which was even with Medium?

    Supernanny beat Ugly Betty. Yikes.

  11. John

DVR boosted Dollhouse up to the 1.0s, a repeat isn’t going to get much recording, is it?

“Ugly Betty” is just slacking off this season – the quality in the storylines is not anywhere NEAR where it was the first few seasons. I’m not surprised that “Supernanny” and “Jay Leno” are outperforming this show….it’s like the writers know the show is done after this year, and they don’t give a flying crap anymore.

  13. Paul

John the last new episode of Dollhouse pulled a 0.8 in 18-49, last night, House pulled a 1.3 in 18-49 in Dollhouse’s slot, if Dollhouse was around the same area in the demo as a house rerun, us fans wouldn’t be as worried as we are now, reality’s already set in for me, Dollhouse’s series finale will be episode 13 of season 2.

  14. Doug(2) the Wednesday comedies perform OK w/W18-34. They lose BADLY to So You Think You Can Dance and Glee in that demo, but are ahead of everything else.

  15. John, that’s true, with Live+7 last week’s Dollhouse will likely bump up to a 1.2 and still be behind the repeat of House. But sadly DVR viewing doesn’t pay the bills

  16. John

Have CBS renewed Ghost Whisperer on an average of a 2.3 demo before?

  17. John

If FOX would stick that House repeat as a lead-in for Dollhouse, maybe we would see a change. I don’t see any reason to bring ‘Till Death back, as soon as it returned, Dollhouse’s ratings dropped even more.

  18. Aaa

Smallville was a season high, not a series high. Huge difference

  19. ABCHasProblems

WOW @ Betty! I actually had a dream last night that ABC moved Betty to Sundays @ 8 after AFV. It’s definitely not coming back next season.

  20. ooglebug

Oooh Yay Smallville!! It really seems to have founds its feet on Fridays, okay it’s low but it’s stable and good for Fridays :) .
Season 10 seems viable to me now! Wehay – I love this show, just keeps getting better and better. It’s so fun and cheesy and romantic and cute and badass and… I could go on.
