Courtesy of commenter "RJ", according to Robert Herjavec's Twitter account there will be more Shark Tank:

Great news - ABC has ordered more episodes of Shark Tank !!!! No air date yet - but it's coming.

Robert's Twitter account isn't a verified account, but it seems legitimate enough, and this isn't something I'm going to try and get confirmed over the weekend.  Shark Tank wasn't exactly a ratings juggernaut, averaging a 1.7 (blended Live+7/Live+SD results) adults 18-49 rating for the episodes after September 21.  But Shark Tank did have some critical acclaim and it could be that the show also has a higher percentage of high income viewing relative to other shows, and apparently the foreign versions of the show (like Dragon's Den in Canada) were slow ratings starters.

From a quality standpoint Shark Tank doesn’t seem like the type of show that could ever pull in large ratings. Every week feels exactly the same so after a few episodes it becomes really boring.

According to James Hibberd a few weeks ago:
“Every country that’s aired this format (you can watch the terrific U.K. version, “Dragons’ Den,” on BBC America) has seen the show’s ratings climb from its first to second season.”

    ^So basically, a renewal seems smart.^

    I wonder what they’re paying these sharks…….
cus otherwise it looks dirt cheap to produce

I had the feeling this would be renewed – the numbers actually GREW during the fall season (despite higher competition)

And in Canada ‘Dragon’s Den’ – which features two of the four sharks from ST – is a SMASH hit. It regularly gets 1.5 million viewers here (which is HUGE, especially for the CBC).

I agree with tdot. Compared to even a cheap show like Wipeout, I would say it’s cheap as hell to make. One set, no prize money, no major liability insurance, could probably film 3-5 episodes per day(not including the off-site inventor intros). Hell, I bet it makes Leno look expensive by comparison.

Being as the hosts are all venture capitalists, I would even guess that they make more the better the show does, meaning it could potentially be profitable even with a low rating.

Yes! I had a feeling this would happen. I thoroughly enjoy this show too which makes it better. This show seems like it could be a really good summer show. It has to be dirt cheap to make, even for a reality show so that has to help.

Why wont Mark Bernett go on Shark Tank – even though he is producing the show, he clearly bests Richard’s networth. Great show though, I never miss a one.

Glad to see more episodes on the horizon. Now if only I could find the Canadian episodes of Dragon’s Den.

As I said a couple weeks ago, it’d make perfect sense to renew. Its ratings aren’t stellar but are solid and seem to actually be increasing, it has to be one of the cheapest shows to produce in primetime even compared to other reality shows, and it probably appeals to the high-income demographics just as shows like The Apprentice before it. It’d be great as a summer or maybe even a Friday show.

I wouldnt be surprised, ABC can use the series next summer. I dont expect it to appear in the spring though.

Dragon’s Den (the British Version) is shown on BBC America on Tuesday nights.

Good Move For ABC! Glad Tht They Are Sticking With Shark Tank for a little more time and give the show time to grow. GOOD MOVE ABC!!!!!!

Probably coming back as a summer show or maybe holiday season filler.

ABC’s summer lineup is really, really weak – just the Bachelorette and Wipeout pretty much – so since Shark Tank actually grew, even just a little bit, I can see them bringing it back then.

  14. Lisa

The numbers really were abysmal, but I enjoyed the show. And I agree, it looked like it was very cheap to make. Good summer filler!

Honestly, though, I’d be surprised if it ever became very popular at all in the US. The concept is not that exciting even though it plays better than it sounds, IMO.

Sony Pictures, Burnett Productions, and ABC receive a share of revenues generated by the businesses included in the program. Since they don’t take any risks, the money being invested belongs to the “Sharks”, there is only upside in bringing back the show.

Maybe they should reconsider tweaking the title

  17. Alex

oy, this show was well dumb and i thought it would be cancelled, jeez no wonder i only watch 2-3 shows on ABC.

    UPDATE:

Has ABC renewed its much-loved (but modestly-rated) reality show “Shark Tank”?

According to a network spokesperson, the answer is no– at least not yet.

“Tank” is one of ABC’s highest-indexing shows among upscale viewers aged 18-49. Only “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice” have a higher percentage share of upscale ($125,000-plus) viewers than “Tank.”

Shark Tank is a fantastic show. Remember, ABC switched it from Sundays to Tuesdays, which probably didn’t help its momentum. Too often, shows like this aren’t given the chance to build an audience. If ABC is renewing the show, kudos to them. Nice to see some reality programming that actually has some basis in reality.

I think after time moving it did better
