Hey are these Curb Numbers lower than other seasons or average? they seem so low I hope HBO makes another couple of seasons of this great show.

Hey Bill OR Robert Do you think HBO would be happy enough with Curbs numbers? they seem low but are they lower than other seasons? i dont get why more people dont watch its such a great show.

Mad Men is by Far the best Drama on tv today and loved the latest episode dealing with JFK’s death. This is by far the best season yet!

I find Bored to Death to be absolutely delightful, and I’m thrilled that it’s already been renewed for a second season. I watch Dexter and Mad Men as well on Sundays as well. Sunday night definitely has more than its share of interesting, intelligent shows.

Despite Californication’s horrible retention, it’s ratings are up by 60% this year compared to last. It followed Dexter last year too, so it is also growing it’s own audience. Showtime is making gains in their programming despite certain people’s consistent denial of that fact.

The only thing more surprising to me than “Curb Your Enthusiasm” doing that feebly when it’s having one of its best seasons to date is that the perfectly-titled “Bored to Death” is keeping that much of the lead-in. I can’t speak for others, but the only part of “Bored” I can sit through is the opening credits.

jtd, on HBO and Showtime, Starz, etc., subscriptions trump everything. My guess is they look a a variety of metrics, including demos, but since there is NO advertising the demos don’t really mater and the monthly subscription fees really do.

my guess is they look at the total for shows across multiple airings, DVR and On Demand and make comparisons across shows.

For shows on showtime/hbo do demo numbers matter at all?

Logic seems to imply that they would only care about total viewership as that would drive subscriber fees and they have no ads to sell.

I thought I would ask though as I never see it mentioned and each time these shows come up you list the demo numbers.

Californication is a comedy… ?

HBO doesn’t rely on ratings to stay afloat, so I’m guessing several factors went into Bored to Deaths renewal. Must have had a good season 2 pitch and see possible revenue from DVD, etc.

Cali’s problem is not that it’s a comedy airing after a drama. Cali’s problem is that hardly anyone wants to see David Duchovny naked anymore.

HBO has an unusual combo this fall. No one hour drama at all. I look for this to be the last time this happens. Big Love will be strong starting in January. The Pacific will follow for a few weeks, probably followed by Treme’in the Spring. Then True Blood in the Summer and probably Boardwalk Empire next fall. Comedy wise. The new Making it in America and The Life and Times of Tim will probably be paired with Big Love. Eastbound and Down with Treme’. Hung and Entourage with True Blood and Bored To Death with Boardwalk Empire. I’m sure Curb will have another season but that will probably be on 2011.

I think HBO was hoping for a bit of a pop with the Seinfeld exposure but otherwise was just holding it’s breath and waiting until January for stable ratings.

Dexter is doing great but Californication has horrible retention airing after it. Airing a comedy after a drama never seems to work and that applies to HBO too, Both Hung and Entourage got 3m+ airing afrer True Blood so it not exclusive to Showtime.

Dexter beat both Curb and Bored to Death and Californication despite the horrible retention beat Bored to Death too, something tells HBO may be regretting renewing it.

Can we expect both Mad Men and Dexter to hit 2m by their season finales?

Guys, the photo of Rita and Dex is labelled wrong. It’s season 4 that’s on Showtime at the moment, not season 3.

Hopefully next week Mad Men’s season finale will have a +25% jump in viewers like the previous season (and that means more than 2 million viewers for the 2nd time in this season!). But this week’s episode already had more viewers than the 2nd season’s finale, so AMC must be satisfied.
