V rose in the national finals to a 5.2 /14 adults 18-49 rating/share and 14.3 million viewers. It was the first time an ABC scripted show had beat an original airing of NCIS (4.3/11) in over five years (since 10/5/04).  The numbers increased in each half hour (5.0/14 to 5.3/14) with adults 18-49 and also with viewers (14.1 million to 14.5 million).

The Forgotten dropped to a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating in the finals and was edged out in the demo by The Jay Leno Show's 2.0 rating.  The Good Wife held it's 2.7 preliminary adults 18-49 rating in the finals.

While we wait for Travis here's an update on The Biggest Loser from NBC, it inched up from a 3.4 to a 3.5..

  • From 8-10 p.m. ET, “The Biggest Loser” averaged a 3.5 rating, 9 share in adults 18-49 and 9.1 million viewers overall.  Versus its averages for November of last year, "Loser" is up 13% in 18-49 (3.5 vs. 3.1) and 1.5 million persons or 20% in total viewers (9.113 million vs. 7.583 million).  In the time period last night, "The Biggest Loser" tied for #1 among the major networks in women 18-49, despite last night's increased competition from ABC's premiere of "V."

  1. Awesome. V was great and I hope it’ll stay around for a second and hopefully many more seasons.

  2. AppleStinx

Who guessed the ratings right and what’s behind door number 3?

  3. Bruce

I can only hope that the 3 remaining episodes are good enough to maintain a high level of interest in the program. If not, the hiatus will surely kill the show.

  4. phantom

I hope ABC had realized by now that a huge gap between ep4 and 5 could be terrible for the show. It’s like their own mini-WGA-strike-effect. And we all remember what that did to fan faves (Heroes, Prison Break).

  5. So Cal

    phantom-

Don’t forget abotu what it did to DSM and Pushing Daisies on ABC

  6. Josh Emerson

Yeah, I really can’t see how they could bring the show back any later than January. They have to know that they need to capitalize on these high numbers. Taking December off is fine with Christmas and everything mostly repeats, but any longer is death.

  7. Tony

WOW. ABC has to be so happy right now!!

  8. phantom

    So Cal

Oh, don’t even get me started on DSM and PD! I loved those shows, they could have run for several seasons based on their high quality.
ABC better not make the same mistakes again.

  9. phantom

Btw, I still don’t get it why ABC didn’t order more episodes for their freshman seasons post-strike.

  10. Jared

I’m amazed by these numbers. I didn’t expect anything over a 3.2, but my guess was 3.0. The pilot is downloading from iTunes right now, so I’ll have to check out what everyone was watching.

  11. rob

Im not that surprised that V premiered so big. It was way more talked about than Flash Forward plus all the promotion that ABC put into it. Hopefully it could maintains 4s demo.

The Forgotten is definitely getting cancelled.

  12. full details from Travis now added above.

  13. Jared

rob, seriously? V had no where near the promotion that FlashForward did. You couldn’t watch ABC or ESPN all summer without seeing stuff about FlashForward. Plus is was advertised in all Regal Theaters throughout most of the summer.

  14. phantom

WOW, while V is obviously the winner and THE story of the night, it is worth mentioning that NCIS still managed to crack the 20 million viewership. This show is untouchable, I don’t even know why I am surprised, if American Idol can’t harm it, nothing else can.

Glad to see The Good Wife perform steadily. It’s total viewership is great, the demos should be great, too……on any other network. I hope CBS will keep it for a second season. It’s high quality.

Ouch, CW. Move Melrose Place behind Vampire Diaries already, otherwise you can just cancel it.

  15. Michael

Most people tend to forget that Pushing Dasies and DSM both got HORRIBLE ratings for their last episode before the strike.

  16. good grief

but the advantage v had over flash forward is they could promote it at a time when people were watching abc, summertime was dead to abc

  17. Except that ABC promoted FlashForward during Lost.

  18. Chmarin

So, I’m guessing Jay Leno only managed to get a 2.0 in the demos because the guest was the most talked about contestant on The Biggest Loser this season? Very clever.

  19. cool

ONE promo that didn’t show ANYTHING is not promoting a show,

  20. Tommy

cool I’d have to disagree, Those “what did you see” blips during Lost last year got a lot of people talking about the show.
