The Canadian invasion of ABC's sci-fi drama "V" on Tuesday night turned into the top-rated new series for fall north of the border.

CTV netted 2.16 million total viewers as it simulcast the ABC bow, according to BBM Canada audience data.

The debut was the first of the current Canadian TV season to surpass 2 million viewers, after the CBC's competition series "Battle of the Blades" secured 1.99 million total viewers, and Global Television's debut of the Fox musical series "Glee" scooped 1.94 million viewers.

    Ahhh. We’re so tiny!

Yeah, it was heavily promoted, show ads, commericals everyhwere.
I know you can’t do this, but it would be the equivalent of 20 million US ratings.

I think the V premiere was on both Canadian channels CTV and A at the same time, will have to look into that though.

But yeah big numbers for Canada.

Are there really that few people in Canada? Call me an ignorant American but I had no idea that 2 million is considered a huge number. Is most of the land just uninhabitable or does it just suck there?

I have a question, do Canadian ratings have the 18-49 demo as well or is the total viewers enough to pay the bills?

  6. There are just over 300 million Americans and yet a show with 10 million can stay on the air.
With over 33 million Canadians if you get 1 million its a hit, even if its above 500,000 it would likely stay on the air.

In the 90s Global dominated the ratings with hit shows from NBC and Fox and when those shows declined in the ratings/ended CTV rose up and lucked out with the hits from CBS (the CSIs), ABC (Lost, Grey’s, Housewives) and Fox (Idol). While Global was unlucky with pretty much everything NBC has produced and a few duds from ABC/Fox. CTV still airs L&O:SVU in its Tuesday night timeslot.

Forg, V did 1,133,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo. But most of the time the demos aren’t widely reported, just total viewers.

The population of Canada is about 30 million or so, because most of the country is harsh, or is farmland. And no, it does not suck here. Exactly what do you mean by ‘suck’? We’re a democracy, and we have universal health care that was not imposed upon us by evil aliens, and we have a lot of natural resources. Actually, Canada usually ranks among the top few best countries in the world in which to live, despite our climate.

That city in which V was filmed happens to be Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada — the city in which I live, and it’s beautiful.

I enjoyed the show & remember seeing the mini-series & being terrified when there was a fight & underneath was the *SPOILER* (If you haven’t seen it yet!) *SPOILER* reptile skin! Of course I was 6 but man that was some great stuff & I look forward to seeing more of this show! Cheers to all of our friends above us!
