fox pay what? $265 million a year to MLB- 2009 get 6 games avr about 19 million people per game. that’s 6x 19 millions for 256 mils

so for about $500 million fox could’ve gotten 12 days x 19 millions viewers

nbc pay $1.5 billion and change to show the olympics runs for 14 days avr 20 million people. that’s 14x 20 millions for 1.5 bils

do the math, fox is still getting a sweet deal.

Who cares, there’s still alot of baseball fans left in America. Baseball rake in almost $7 billion in revenue a year, Just ahead of the NFL’ $6.5 billion, with the NBA and NHL a distance third around $3 billion, do you think baseball is crying? hello people the YES network which carries yankees game to the new york market is worth over $1 billion dollar by itself and all it does is show yankees games.

The ratings would have been higher if it were the Dodgers played the Yankees. Why? Ny is the no. 1 TV Market and LA is no. 2! Would be huge!

MLB really needs to consider shortening the season. The World Series would probably get much higher ratings if it was played BEFORE the NFL season started.

That’s true. New York is Market 1 and Philadelphia is Market 4 (I think). That’s 12+% of national audience. Kind of hard not to do well, even with views opinions of McCarver and Buck.

The Yankees in the series = big viewers.

I think that CW may have been the only network to benefit from this. The target demo for them is exactly a sports watching group.

Considering that both team are from big media markets how could it not have gotten large ratings? Especially since you had a team that was trying for the rare back to back championship.

The World Series beats nearly everything except the NFL, the BCS championship game, the Oscars, and American Idol.

FOX took it because ABC, NBC, and CBS didn’t want it, after losing a huge amount of money in the late 80s/early 90s. FOX still doesn’t make much money off MLB, but uses it as a promotional tool — getting an average of 15-19 million people to see ads for the Fall line-up.

19 million viewers (and a 6.2 in the demo) isn’t a problem. MLB is lucky that nobody steroid scandals anymore.

What do you expect…You had the Yankees. But, the problem is that the World Series with the Yankees cannot still get over 20+ million average. Only 2 games got over 20 million. Overall, compared to previous decades, The World Series is substantially down. This was just an uptick due to the Yankees. Let’s wait what happens if you got no Yankees in The World Series..

For a game to be called America’s pastime, it seems pretty apparant that the game cannot get the ratings it used get back in the 70s, 80s, 90s. This Decade the World Series has recorded the lowest ratings ever for the game..

Fox has not had the benefit of many long World Series. Only 6 World Series since 1996 went 6 games and only 3 went 7 games. 8 Went Fice games or less including 5 sweeps. How can any network expect to have big ratings with a Sweep or 5 game series. Then let’s look at some of the match-ups. Houston vs Whitesox, Red Sox vs Rockies, Tampa vs Philly, Florida vs Cleveland, Yankees vs San Diego, Anaheim vs San Francisco….not exactly huge match-ups.

What this press release doesn’t tell you is that since FOX has had the World Series, it’s been the worst decade of ratings ever for the Fall Classic. Enjoy those numbers FOX. Also, the only reason this is the biggest percentage increase is because last year was the lowest ratings ever for a World Series an 8.4….when you’re at rock bottom, going up is the only place you can go! Congrats FOX you’re a step higher than rock bottom.
