Noone remembers, but in the past letterman was dominating leno and then in 1994 leno came back and then beat letterman consitently till he leno left the show. Heres what I think is gonna happen: Leno is tossed out, Letterman retires either 2010 or on the thirtieth anniversary, and then conan comes out on top , or its a tie between conan and daves replacement(probably jon stewart or craig ferguson).

strussman,

The only singular talent out there is Craig Ferguson. He is wonderfully unique.

All of this speculation is interesting to me. TV Shop or Shop Talk constantly publishes anti-Leno stories that say that he is "failing" miserably when that is not the case at all. I do not forsee NBC getting rid of Conan because it takes time to turn things around and he is "young." Jay will be 60 in April so what is the liklihood of them keeping him around? Also, Coco's contract probably stipulates an 11:30 time slot.

To me where NBC went wrong was when they did not introduce Conan to 11:30 viewers over a period of time. I have not watched his show since the first week because I am a devout Dave fan. LOL!

Some of the things that I have been reading as of late include Comcast moving the NBC network to a cable tier and telling the affiliates to ef off. I don't know, but the broadcast biz is changing. There is increased competition in niche programs and Late Night talk show talents are no longer singular except for Dave of course... :-)

It's too bad Conan's show has flopped so badly.

If you watch it, he's really trying to do something fresh and seems to be enjoying himself. I guess he just didn't have the broad appeal.

I wonder if he'll leave NBC when they cancel him or if he'll do specials or something for them.

Here's what's going to happen, as soon as the sale goes through. NBC moves "The Jay Leno Show" to 11:30 and moves "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" to 12:30. That way, if they continue to call Conan's show the Tonight Show even though it will now be on at 12:30 instead of 11:30, they won't have to pay him that huge penalty in his deal. Leno's interview with Broadcast & Cable was his way of telling Brian Roberts that he's eager to go back to 11:30, a move he's apparently already lobbying for behind the scenes.

I know! Craig Ferguson is good, too, because he is so different. But with almost 30 years in network broadcasting, Letterman has shown an ability to maintain good shows. His critics will complain that he drags jokes out for weeks, but that's part of the joke. AND, over time, he is likable, able to draw in big stars despite his being in New York instead of Hollywood, and his interviews are interesting to listen to. His choice for Late Late Show host was genius--when others wondered why he chose Ferguson years ago, he has emerged as one of the most interesting people to listen to.

I love David Letterman, in my opinion his show is the best out of all the talk shows, and clearly the majority of the viewers in late night agree with me.

Nice try, Dave. But I strongly disagree. By what measurement do you base your argument, I wonder? Clearly more people watch Late Show than The Tonight Show. You are maybe one in a million that think Dave is "the worst host on TV"--think again.

You are maybe one in a million that think Dave is "the worst host on TV"---or were you talking about YOU? Are YOU a host? That explains it.

I'm tired.......But once again, like Hogan on the comeback trail, I'm back on my feet (or I had just enough strength to tag my partner). Conan and his 18-34 audience (the kids who were into Green Day in high school and wore a tie to be like Billy Joe, and wore their hat in math class every day until the teacher told them to take it off) are the biggest losers in the history of this country.
