Eastwick-2-ABC

Sorry Eastwick fans, but you should've seen it coming.

via James Hibberd's the live feed:

ABC has picked up five more episodes of Tuesday night's "The Forgotten" while deciding against ordering additional episodes of "Eastwick."

In addition, ABC is yanking the planned upcoming debut of reality show "Let's Dance."

With the exception of scrapping plans for the only-just-recently-announced-to-begin-with Let's Dance,  these moves aren't a big surprise.  Perhaps the move of picking up The Forgotten is surprising for some, but Jerry Bruckheimer's show will live on for at least 5 additional episodes.

The accountants might not be making all scheduling decisions, but they still hold some sway. ABC plans to air all 13 of the Eastwick episodes (so far 7 of the 13 have aired), though exactly when they will air is still unknown.

I wonder what will they do with Hank. I hope Eastwick will be able to wrap its story for the sake of the fans.

well, the forgotten is a procedural, so I guess ABC is hoping it will gain viewers over time and it did climb back to 2.0

On reading the first few lines then I was slightly surprised that they would order more of “The Forgotten”, and slightly moreso to pick it over “Eastwick”. But not terribly so. And Bruckheimer being a cause for that decision does make quite a bit of sense.

Congrats to “The Forgotten” fans and my condolences to those rooting for “Eastwick”.

Forgotten sure surprises me. Just when would these air? Covering February? While ABC’s cupboards are bare, 10pm is the hour covered the best, with Castle, Happy Town, etc.

On the other hand, that ABC is scrambling for 10pm shows sure seems to put to rest the (in my mind always remote) posibility that Lost gets scheduled at 10. Either MF/CT or DWTSResults is getting booted to 8.

  4. cool

    Where’s Hank!

  5. While picking up The Forgotten might be surprising, picking it over Eastwick isn’t. Its had the better numbers season-to-date, and recently. Though it still has lousy numbers! Forg, in the finals it dropped back to a 1.9 last week.

ABC just announced Kathy Griffin as the Let’s Dance host. Surprising it got cut.

  7. I guess ABC’s midseason isn’t as strong as it seems.

According to The Live Feed’s report “Let’s Dance” had difficulty casting so that’s why it’s canceled already. I guess they can’t find ‘stars’ anymore hehe.

Robert, oh it dropped to 1.9, but I guess ABC has more hopes for that to grow eventually. I don’t think it will though.

I’m waiting for what will happen to Hank. I just find it odd they haven’t announce anything for that show yet

Kathy Griffin hosting a dance show… Poor contestants being relentlessly taunted. I like Kathy Griffin, but can’t see that show going well. She is better taunting others when they are not in the same room.

If ABC decides to burn off the remaining Shark Tank episodes on Tuesdays @ 8, their winter Tuesday nights will be completely set. Maybe ABC will move AFV to Wednesdays @ 8 (with less male-oriented competition as opposed to Sundays), air the final season of LOST @ 9, and order 13 episodes of Super Millionaire to be aired @ 10 (replaced by FlashForward in the spring). I’m guessing FlashForward will be moved to a 10pm slot since it’s not performing as well as ABC expected. Happy Town might do well in the post-V slot in the spring (which would likely be Tuesdays @ 10).

    Nooooooo Eastwick!

  12. FLASHFORWARD still is doing better than Ugly Betty did last season, even with last week’s season low, though it’s not clear that it has found its ratings floor yet.

  13. ABCHasProblems, where does ABC’s comedy lineup go in that schedule?

  14. Ron

Robert, did you mean to address that post to me? Confused

ABC could pair up Modern Family and The Middle on Thursdays @ 8, air Cougar Town @ 9:30 on Mondays, and air Romantically Challenged @ 8:30 Tuesdays after an abbreviated DWTS: Results show.

  16. indeed. Hank goes away, and I can see them fiddling with The Middle, but Modern Family and Cougar Town aren’t going anywhere. I won’t be surprised if ABC sticks LOST at 10pm on Wednesdays. It could move the forgotten to Weds at 10pm and air Lost on Tuesdays after DWTS results show.

But it could stick Lost at 8pm Thursdays and have a bang up Thursday night and move Flash Forward somewhere else too. I am enamored with the idea of loading up on Thursdays, and other than Survivor, the 8pm competition is pretty weak.

  17. ABC, I think you can count on Modern Family and CougarTown staying together on Wednesdays. I think for ABC, that’s as close to “it isn’t busted, so let’s not fix it” as it can get.

  18. Ron, confusion probably mine :-) comment deleted…

  19. Moving Lost back to 8 would be interesting. Putting it in front of Greys would mean they don’t have to worry that it can’t launch anything out of it, and it avoids Idol, for the most part.

Wow, I seriously thought ABC would give Eastwick a chance after calling it a quiet success but I guess not. Theres gonna be some major riot going on at the Eastwick board. Eastwick is seriously a great show that had great potential but of course ABC doesnt give it a chance.

The Forgotten is just another crime drama and probably cheap which is why it got additional episodes.
