South-Park-The-F-Word

Have I reminded you lately about how much I love Sons Of Anarchy?  There's an extra-long 90 minute episode tonight and I can't wait.  But, nobody sent me a screener so,  I will wait with the rest of you.  I'm not complaining I'd rather watch it in high definition on the big screen anyway!

But while I bide my time until 10pm, last week Sons Of Anarchy was again the highest rated scripted show with adults 18-49 on the cable networks.  It was edged out by the Monday Night Football game and WWE Raw to come in third place overall on cable with adults 18-49 for the week ending November 8, 2009.

With 2.320 million adults 18-49, SOA edged out media whores Kate Gosselin (Kate: Her Story averaged 2.301 million adults 18-49) and the Kardashians (Keeping Up With Kardashians averaged 2.19 million adults 18-49).   I know what you're thinking "You're just saying that because you love Sons Of Anarchy so MUCH! The media whores' shows hardly cost anything to make!"

Ok, fair enough.

It also beat out the controversial South Park episode, "The F-Word" where the boys wind up lobbying to have the definition of "fags" changed to mean loud, annoying and inconsiderate Harley Davidson motorcycle riders.  The episode hit season highs with adults 18-49 for South Park with 1.985 million.

What about Mad Men's excellent season 3 finale?   It didn't make the top 50 with adults 18-49.  The problem with Mad Men is that most of its viewers can remember the period the show is covering.  Sunday's finale averaged 2.323 million, but only 1.118 million, or 48% of them were aged 18-49.   Sons Of Anarchy had  66% of its viewers in the adults 18-49 demo (2.32 million out of 3.516 million).

Robert do you ever receive screeners?

And glad to see that an excellent show continues to get the ratings it deserves.

  2. Visan

Good to know the young folk are enamored with SOA!

    Jax Teller>Don Draper

    Tee! Hee! :P

  3. Cullen, yes. But I’m really not that into them and writing reviews isn’t really my thing. Plus, I really do prefer watching them on the big screen in HD versus either online screeners or standard definition DVDs.

  4. MZStitch

MadMen is one of my favorite shows, for those of you not watching it rent it starting from season 1. You will find it to be very well written, and entertaining!

  5. How much does the FX pay you, Robert? ;)

  6. DiamondSuave

Dennis: Have you seen the show? Yes, its really that good. Go rent season 1 and let us know what you think. I don’t think it will ever average more than 4-5 million viewers because it’s not a family friendly show, but I still LOVE IT!!!

I have to agree that SOA is great and what is even more insteresting as far as demographics is that both my better half and I both really like it and we don’t have many shows that we both think are a must watch.

Think Sopranos meets the Shield ..

I am up to the last Episode of Season 1.

One thing that I really like about the show is how fast the stories move along.

No long sappy emmotional momements. If there is a love scene it is usually done in 15 seconds( Just like me :) )

Lots of characters and I did have to go look them up on the internet.

Even though she is married with children Katey Segal is sure no Peggy Bundy in this show! Great actress!

  8. The Other Tony

I love the show as well. FX has a great hit on it’s hands. I’m glad to see dramas that do well that are not the usual procedural, cop or laywer shows that remind me of every show on CBS these days.

My question is. Has it been picked up for a 3rd season yet? It seems like a no brainer but I know the creater of FX (who’s name escapes me) is a bit “out there”.

  9. Sonny

After Lastnights episode it sould be a no brainer for FX to continue for a 3rd season. Gemma (Kate Segal) performance along with Jax’s emoitions with the music in the background was sort of a tear jerker. Ha and I’m a biker too

  10. Sonny, it was a no brainer even before last night. But keep in mind, though last night’s episode was fantastic (and in my opinion the best of an already excellent season 2), quality of a particular episode is not necessarily any indication of what the ratings will be for it.

That said, barring something wacky, the ratings for last night’s episode should be more or less in line with the rest of the season — and they have been outstanding for FX. SOA is by far and away its #1 show with adults 18-49 on FX.

  11. Robert V

The South Park episode was pretty much not funny. It had a message, but I am not sure that it was conveyed in a particularly funny way. Sad to see that had the best ratings, as I think it was the worst episode of the midseason.

Butter’s Bottom B**** was much more humorous.

best ratings of the season for South Park*
