Show is an rehash of lame ethnic humor deemed as “not funny” back in the 80′s. Nothing original. Should be off the air by Christmas, if it makes it that long.
Like watching a 6th grader showing off in front of his friends with unfunny racist humor. The talent pool must be slim if they can give this guy valuable TV time for this unwatchable show. I just removed the channel from my TV scan so I won’t accidentally switch it on ever again.

If the show makes you laugh, then enjoy while it lastes. Everyone’s tastes are different.

this show is the future of late night. all of the dull and boring conservative uptights go back to conan and his same old same old routine. georges show is fantastic . it is alive it is topical and fastpaced. this show will last . and all you jerks watch and see the numbers will be good. shut up all you matlock viewers!

He is downright funny, honest and true to hispanic beginnings here in US. Not for myself, however, his followers can sympathize, and when you sympathize, nostalgia and memory lane makes you connect. It is unfair he doesn’t have the proper support to pull out the full spectrum of a late night night show, UNFORTUNATELY FOR US AND HE!His show won’t be off air due to him, but from poor staff for he and show. SHAME ON HIS NETWORK! Sweaty George, him calling for applause, audiences not aware of surroundings when camera crew focuses camera on audience, guest says somehting entertaining to audience and camera still on guest not audience, all above mentioned had nothing to do with George and how unfair! He needs to be made aware by watching his own show and learn how to pull through. God bless George, whatever the outcome…

I stopped liking talk shows a long time ago – apres Carson ( Johhny ), le deluge of dreck. But George Lopez, I’ve observed from a few clips of him in front of a live audience, is a hell of a lot funnier than any of his late night competition in that regard. ( As someone indicated, Chelsea Handler is embarassingly bad and an insult to true women standups. Who’s carrer is cast out into some alternate universe so Chelsea can have her undeserved niche? ) Lopez is a natural. His #’s probably will drop, but TNT has the right idea. With so many lousy late-nighters who don’t even grasp, as Conan and Letterman both did in their time, the whole premise of a Late Night show, it’s smart to put Lopez on cable and just keep eating away at the network clay idols. Now if only cable would get serious about competing with the nets from 8 AM to two PM …

Congrats to George! Watched last night and it was fun, great set, great music. The sketches are better produced than what is typically found in your late night shows. Something that is a treat, George is demonstrating the real ease with which african americans and hispanics relate to each other. Most of the audience knew Jamie Fox’s lyrics more than Marc Anthony’s lyrics. Keep up the good work George, don’t swear to much and ignore the haters.

Lopez Tonight was a great show yesterday and tonight, all u old people can go back to watching mattlock, gay leno and lettermen, GLO is the voice of today’s youth, we love his shows, his cds, watch all his movies his specials, I love George Lopez (no homo) and all my friends love him too, and we’re not even latino! We are white boys from Oklahoma!, i hope Lopez Tonight continues to do well and burns conan in the ratings. LOPEZ 4 EVER!!! (((hes the team leader)))

The funniest late night (actually early morning) show is Red Eye. A zero budget show on a news channel provides more laughs than Letterman, Leno, Lopez, and the rest combined.

Watching Lopez would make a great drinking game — take a swig every time this fugly racist makes a racial comment. Take two every time he says “Latino”. Take three every time he says something derogatory about “Caucasians”.
BET has Monique and then Wendy Williams on when douchebags like Lopez and Letterman are on the other channels. I’ll stick with BET.

I have to agree with you on one point Joe, perhaps you’re too old =p Just kidding with you, but Conan isn’t generally seen as an old person show–although I can see now how it is more old friendly than the 12:30 show.

But the problem with letterman, conan, and even leno is that they are all the same thing. The interviews are boring as hell, and I don’t really want to hear them talk about the movie they are pushing. The great part about the daily show or colbert report is that more often than not, they have people on who have interesting things to say about the world we live in. Yes they are still pushing a book, or sometimes film, but the majority of times you have people who are interesting and fresh.

George is the most unfunny person in Hollywood. His new show just proves that ANYONE in Hollywood can get a talkshow. I saw only a couple of minutes of his opening monologue and that was a couple of minutes of my life I can’t get back. I didn’t laugh AT ALL. It’s truly amazing what networks will come up with to counter popular programs. Does FOX really think they can draw viewers away from SNL with the Wanda Sykes show? Did they forget how she tried to embarass Bill Cosby at the Emmy’s about 5 years ago? Talk about an awkward moment. I guess I’m too old, because I enjoy the older guys like Letterman, Conan (and if still alive and working) Johnny Carson. For some reason, (so-called) comedians/comediennes think they have to be loud and obnoxious to be funny…not so.

Viewers: 1,153,000
18–49: 802,000

Couldn’t find other numbers.. but a NYTIMES article from 2005, puts The Daily Show averaging 1.3M viewers and 2/3 between 18-49

But looking at 2007 to now, it looks pretty consistent. Hard to state though without multiple data points–but since 2007 I’d say they pretty much have grown slightly.

Lopez Tonight was wonderful last night. It is a refreshing entry into the world of latenight television, where, much of it has been quite staid. The show is full of energy, creativity & life! I wish George & the whole staff & crew continued success. It is so nice to actually have a show on TV worth watching!

I had the same thought that 3.2 million was not really that impressive for a show was promoted as heavily as this was. We’ll have to see what the dropoff is, but if it is anywhere as big as you would think, this show is pretty much an abject failure.

tom, Leno doesn’t air at the same time and isn’t considered “late night” (10pm is still primetime). As Mike notes, the drop off is likely to be pretty steep it will be interesting to follow.
