Lou Dobbs, the longtime CNN anchor whose anti-immigration views made him a TV lightning rod, plans to announce Wednesday that he is leaving the network, two network employees said.

via Media Decoder Blog - NYTimes.com.

In the 7pm cable news ratings race, Lou Dobbs Tonight usually trailed The Fox Report substantially, but was typically close to that hour's Hardball w/ Chris Matthews. Yesterday, it was CNN's #3 primetime show in the adults 25-54 demo targeted by news advertisers.

I’ll bet he’s going to FOX.

  2. Jfan

    where on fox?

  3. Demonjoe

Jfan, Probably a contributer or whatever John Stossel is supposed to be.

  4. Roland

He’ll be on Fox Business. He has a BA in economics from harvard and spent the majority of his CNN career in the financial news department.

  5. If only he and Alex Jones would cohost a show together!

  6. Ava

    Good riddance.

Parenthood, I can’t see Alex Jones being put on anyone’s network anytime soon. He’d make Glenn Beck seem like Oprah. I also can’t see how Lou Dobbs would react to things like Jones’ speculating that Lawrence Rockefeller faked his death to use “black” technology to look younger. That’s way, way, way beyond the populism in Lou Dobbs’ books, at least the ones I’ve read.

there’s an easy place for dobbs in the 7PM slot instead of running two hours of Shep every day. It’s not like Fox needs more ratings, but Dobbs does have a steady following that will go where he goes.

    Think about that lineup:
    3 — Shepard Smith
    4 — Cavuto
    5 — Beck
    6 — Bret Bair
    7 — Dobbs(?)
    8 — Bill O’
    9 — Hannity
    10 — Greta.

    Talk about owning cable news…

Yes, Fox news does well in the ratings, but not as a source for news. Fox news only caters to the conservative/right winger fanatic crowd. I don’t care much for CNN. Corporations have ruined the news industry. There is not much credibility left in the News Department. Fox News is really insulting to one’s intelligence and knowledge. It is made of bunch of Cirus freaks and the biggest hypocrites.

lol. I guess 1 conservative was too mush for CNN. I hope it was Dobbs decision because if CNN let him go, then they’re idiots. He was very competative with Matthews. It doesn’t make sense.

I heard he’s going with Fox Business. Is that true?

  11. JC

Also, he’s anti-illegal immigration, not anti-immigration. There’s a huge difference. His critics try to call him racist. He’s married to a latino woman for crying out loud!

  12. JC, Brian Stelter at Media Decoder/NY Times has the transcript of Dobbs farewell message on tonights show. It sounded to me a lot more like he’s either going into politics or non-profit NGO type stuff than another TV gig, but he was vague enough to leave that unclear.

  13. JC

    @BG

You know, that pathetic excuse is getting old. Go to hoffington post to vent your hatred.

  14. I don’t know that this is good for Dobbs, but it seems like bad news for CNN. Losing (or chasing out, or whatever happened) one of their few remaining non-lefty commentators makes it even more difficult for CNN to maintain their premise of a diverse, unbiased fold of anchors.

@ BG – If your “intelligence and knowledge” are insulted by Fox News, I’m not entirely sure that’s Fox’s fault.

  15. bot d00d

think he got a bit of a ratings bump?

  16. first thought: FOX Business Network

  17. Ryan

lol@lou dobbs going to fox news.. he hates that network.

lou is going to stick to his radio show.

  18. Well, I needed some good news today.

    Apparently he’s going into politics.

  19. Verus

About time. The man is an utter disgrace.

    Foxnews next I suppose.

  20. Nathan

Bittersweet day for racists everywhere. Glenn Beck returns, yet Lou Dobbs leaves.
