EW's Michael Ausiello is all about kissing up to Hollywood and tossing desperate fans what they want to read, but today's post pushes the envelope.
Has news of Eastwick’s cancellation left you wanting to saw the president of ABC in half? You’re not alone. “I’m pretty furious, too,” vents executive producer Maggie Friedman. “We have such an amazing group of writers and actors — best people I’ve ever worked with. None of us can believe this is really happening.”
Adding insult to injury, the network pulled the plug so abruptly that Friedman won’t have a chance to tweak the 13th episode to give fans any of that magical closure stuff. “We’re smack in the middle of several insanely juicy stories,” Friedman sighs. “And so we do not get a chance to wrap things up in a bow. Which is killing me.”

A producer is furious that her show was cancelled? Stop the presses!
And "the network pulled the plug so abruptly"? C'mon. They got all 13 episodes produced that were ordered, and complaining they don't get to wrap things up, begs the point that the only way to have been able to do that is if the show had been canceled before they were done.
Of course, that would have allowed an Ausiello "Producer Mad Eastwick Was Canceled Too Early" post. Smooch!

After the third episode aired (1.8), a showrunner who actually cares about the fans and wrapping things up would have stopped writing “juicy” storylines, and worked on an end game.
When a show ends abruptly like that, I just pretend everyone died. It’s not a big problem for me.
SCOOP! The fans are also angry.
I thought this show was sort of fun for a little while, but the episodes are piling up on the DVR… may just give up on it now.
This sucks, my girlfriend loves this show. Oh boy was she pissed when i told her they canceled this and gave The Forgotten more episodes lol
this has absolutely nothing to do with ratings, just like every other article you post about ausiello. i don’t see a problem with posting an article online like this one by ausiello, no one is forced to read it, despite what you think, and these constant attacks just show how low your self-esteem is. no tv producer would consider talking to you, so you trash those higher up than you. i guess thats why you run a blog
a, higher up than me? Do they live on mountains?
Although I don’t expect a reply. I’m sure you had to get right back to your next brain surgery or rocket launch
damn no closure that sucks
Seriously? You’re ratings suck which is why you got canned. And what Freshman series does not make their 13th episode have some ‘closure’ in case they get canceled? Considering you knew weeks ago that other shows got picked up for the back 9 and you didn’t perhaps you should have planned a finale just in case?
I agree with Brad. It’s Eastwick’s fault for not writing in some closure at the end of episode 13. Ignoring the fact that you could get canceled is rather ballsy for a freshman show.
That really sucks!!! I love Eastwick! It is a great show, ABC doesn’t know what they are doing!
We get a bingo square filled courtesy of the producer of a show! How cool is that?!
Lol, to say none of them saw the cancellation coming is pretty lame. Might make a great square on a new set of bingo cards. Hey Bill, maybe the next set of cards should focus on producer/writer/actors excuses for a show being canceled.
and, to his credit (c’mon man, give credit where credit is due) Ausiello did not use the words “EXCLUSIVE” or “SCOOP” in his headline.
While Ausiello’s content is not for me personally, he is very good at what he does. He’s not doing anything sites like E! Online and TVGuide.com don’t do. He’s just doing it better. There’s a big market for that sort of thing, and he is very skilled at capitalizing on it.
Looks like the producer hasnt been following the numbers. If they had, then the cancellation wouldnt have surprised them. Now that Hank’s axed, all of my september predictions came true. Hank and Eastwick are axed and Forgotten has gotten additional eps.
It is sad to see a favored show go by the boards, however high/low the ratings are and however many/few fans the show has. And, yes, it does smart to have a show canceled without the possibility of wrapping up whatever stories are in process.
It is not a surprise that a producer is mad that her show is canceled, however. The producer has the right to be mad, of course — her ego is bruised and her project is now deemed a failure (right or wrong, draw your own conclusions).
However, to claim it is was a sudden event and thus no time to tweak the final episodes to bring some closure… no, not buying that. Unless she was oblivious, in denial, unusually focused on her work, or the sort of person who flies off the handle at bad news (and I have no evidence on any of these, I only present the possibilities, so, again, draw your own conclusions) she had to know about the downward ratings trend and realize things were less-than-sunny in regard to a season 2 when the back 9 never materialized.
Lots of shows are canceled without a chance to wrap up whatever stories are in process. It’s nothing new. It should change, though, although not quite sure how… maybe notification of pick-ups by the time episode 8 airs so there is time to tweak the last 2 – 3 episodes to close the series at some junction (how practical that could be, and how faithfully the networks would adhere to that practice, well, that’s another question).
TvBtN should have cool names in front of everything
“SWEET”, “COOL!”, “DUDE”, “SEX” just like Assholio.
To Mrs. Friedman:
Your show drew a sub-2 in the demo…believe it.
Maybe Leno should do a Jay Walk over to the producers house so that she can blame him as well.
She should go talk to some Las Vegas fans if she wants to see furious over cancellation!
Michael: Oh, yea… that was a firestorm to remember.
