Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Bad things in store for Ghost Whisperer? :(

  2. J.G.

Isn’t it sad that it takes a movie for ABC to tie in demos?
Prediction: ABC to put movie night on Fridays come midseason.

  3. David

Yay for Ghost Whisperer! Although I expected much more from this episode, but anyway…

  4. Chaz

    Awww Smallville!

  5. Dillan

Pretty certain SV will receive a huge boost in DVR ratings, because the decrease in Live+SD viewers has to be because of New Moon, no other explanation. That, and the fact the shows on a two-month hiatus, meaning fans may take their time to catch up.

I personally don’t think it’s worth worrying about, SV will get the 250k viewers it “lost” last night from the DVR and repeats.

  6. Ali

Last night’s Ghost Whisperer was THE BEST episode of the entire series! I really hope it sticks around

  7. Joss's Biggest Fan

This seems as good a place as any to brag about the awesome numbers Joss was responsible for last night! That “New Moon” thingamajig was Joss’s doing, you see, as Buffy the Vampire Slayer certainly led to this “Twilight” thingy becoming big! See, Joss CAN do awesome numbers on Friday nights! He is a modest, modest, modest man, though, which is why he’s not out there right now doing interviews about how he led to this awesome, awesome box office performance!

Dollhouse forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever! Death to “Twilight”! Team Joss all the way!

For Thursday ratings there was talk of overall TV viewing being down vs. last week. I wonder if that was the case on Friday also.

  9. Even though Numb3rs may not be what it used to, I think CBS needs to find something better than Flashpoint to fill the 10pm slot.

  10. Chaz

I messed up my recording for Smallville and so far ive seen 4/5 parts of the episode and from what I saw it was bad.

  11. RM89

Place this on the bingo card of excuses. 70% of the Smallville episode was inaudible in NY, at least on my TV. I checked back in with Top Model to see if it did the same. It only happened once.

Anyways, great news for all shows.

  12. Why would CBC get rid of the highest rated show on Friday nights in Ghost Whisperer? Plus its already in syndication.

    chuck

  13. Anna

    - move betty to wednesdays
    - put a friday movie

  14. Carol

ABC could decide to make Friday a movie night at least for the rest of the season after it airs the remaining episodes of Dollhouse.

  15. mark-allen

    damn…

shreck stole law and orders audience…

  16. lukas84

move betty to wednesdays!Betty hold on!!!!!!!

  17. Jose

Medium keeps proving every week last friday has more ratings but still very good for a friday CBS keep doing great job with Ghost Whisperer and Medium you made my night !!!

  18. UH

I do not want to open a loooong discussion .
But without Dollhouse FOX did worse than any friday , or am I wrong ? :)

  19. Richie

I’m not too concerned about the Smallville numbers because it’s fairly obvious that the slight drop is due to the new Twilight movie. Overall this seasons ratings average is way beyond expectations considering it’s ‘death slot’. Would have been nice to get higher numbers but you can’t have everything and 9 episodes in and so far so good! Lets keep it going when Smallville returns in January!

  20. Well, at least the Bones and House repeats didn’t completely humiliate Dollhouse, in that Dollhouse has, actually, had one or two episodes with a 1.0 this season.

Who am I kidding? This sucks. At least we already know it’s canceled.
