It's good to see so many international viewers appreciating Lost. While it's still very popular in America, support here has waned in recent years. Good to see that the rest of the world is still wise to Lost though.

I am dual citizen, born in America, came to England in my late 20's for work, have had British passport for a while.

I used to watch shows from the USA & then they would just disappear from the TV screen over here.

Frustrating, as I didn't know if they'd been cancelled in the USA, or if there were more episodes and the British networks just weren't showing them.

Also, the wait between series could be long, long, long - I just wanted more info.

Thank the powers that be for this site (and epguides) so that if I like an American show I can have some idea of what to expect - and if all the eps aren't broadcast over here I can make a resonably informed decision about ordering the series from Amazon (don't get me started on Region 1 vs. Region 2 versions.)

Croatia here :) I'm on here every day, need to know which show is doing good / worth to write about on my sites.

Our TV networks broadcasted most of popular US scripted show, and a lot of people download the shows from net - like Gossip Girl or Prison Break before. Shows like Grey's, Desperate H, House, CSI are still hugely popular on here although Lost stopped broadcasting after 3rd season I think, Heroes also. HIMYM is a number one show here :)

Yep, Australian, but programming is so unbelievably erratic here, it's easier to watch things online, and follow American scheduling, which is way more reliable! In Oz shows move nites and times (seemingly) at random, disappear for months, advertise new episodes only to show a repeat... sometimes shows stream direct from America, other times they stick with massive delays anywhere from 8 months to 2 years, a delay that was probably established when film reels were flown or shopped across the oceans by boat in the 1950s...!... shows come and go on-season, off-season, picked up and dropped, then picked up again with minimal or no seeming connection to ratings?? it seems there's no method to the madness! I absolutely love the way America (and hence your website) treats television production as a serious, complex industry worth following, so thanx :)

Another Australian here, almost a daily visitor now.

I always like to check in and see how US shows are rating, because you all dictate which shows we see. It's even more relevant now with Australian networks airing US shows within weeks, if not days or even hours of their US broadcasts.

Massive Castle fan (which is rating well in Australia!). Here's hoping it's demos continue to improve over the rest of this season for abc, to ensure another season.

There's probably a number of reasons why Canada is so highly ranked:

1. The reason that everyone has given, we have alot of US programming.
2. Unlike a lot of other nations on the list, Canada takes an active stake in alot of US shows. Smallville and Supernatural for example, are both shot in Canada, and therefore use up alot of our tax dollars. We like to keep tabs on our investments.
3. Sometimes our shows are on your networks, we like to see how they do (After learning about the dismal performance of The Listener, for example, I'm now extremely curious to see if CTV renews it.)
4. Canadians are really into watching what's going on below us. It's sort of a hobby. We bring popcorn.
5. Other nations would have this as well, but not to the same extent: There are a ton of Canadians on US tv, or doing stuff behind the scenes.

6. Last but not least: It's really hard to get good information on Canadian ratings. Since US broadcasts are most often at the same time as ours (and in Canada US channels will be taken over by the Canadian channel when simulcasting occurs), we sort of substitute your rankings for our rankings, even though there is often a difference. Even when they're at different times, generally we're only up to a week either before or after the U.S. broadcast.

Yeah i am from Australia also. I visit because i like to get all the latest info about whats going on here and this site seems to be the best one to access that information.

As for the US shows ATM we have a heap of US shows being fast tracked as we like to call it. Its the most we have had to date. They include Heroes, NCIS, Criminal Minds, Bones, Castle, NCIS: LA, Glee, Ghost Whisperer, Flash Forward, CSI, The Mentalist, Two and A Half Men, The Simpsons and Big Bang Theory. I may have missed a few. However this week our Ratings period ends and most of the shows go away until February.

What annoys me is the Seven Network has decided to FT Private Practice and it will continue into the summer months here but no Grey's Anatomy. What type of network does this. Now i am a massive Grey's fan and i have already seen every episode this season however i am also aware Grey's and PP will have some kind of massive crossover event but it seems we will be out of sync. I dont get why our networks here think that its ok to do this.

Just last week the Nine Network showed the CSI crossover event but we are still a season behind in CSI: Miami and CSI: NY because these shows dont do well here.

Obviously i am rambling a bit but the fact is we get a fair whack of the US shows. We just dont get the drama's like Housewives, Grey's, House, Brothers and Sisters etc because the storylines are continual whereas most of the shows shown already dont fit that. Although if Seven had FT'd Grey's it would have fitted in nicely because that show doesnt return now until mid January.

Hi from Australia as well. The top US imports in Australia are NCIS, Two and a Half Men, Bones and Criminal Minds. FlashForward started strong, but is dropping, like in the US. The Mentalist and The Big Bang Theory are both rising in popularity.

The interesting difference between UK ratings and US ratings is that in the UK the viewer total is taken rather than an age 18-49 sample.

The US and Canada also seem to be pretty much on their own that shows can be cancelled so soon after a premier. In other countries such as France, UK etc shows are ordered and played to their 1st season finale even if the show is deemed a failure.

And is house there?
How is it rating wise?

I'm going there for a holiday in a few more days (back to my roots) and just wanting to go prepared.

Another fan from UK. My only gripe is the constant bad coverage regardng Castle. Even on the day, additional episodes were ordered, there was doom and gloom about the show.

Concentrate on another show and give castle a chance. :-)

@Apple:
In Germany everything is dubbed (except for some specials like Musical-Episodes...)
The best Rated American Show is House I think. NCIS is not bad (way younger skewing than in the US). The CSI's are good too.
Interesting: Grey's Anatomy has less 14-49 viewers than NCIS!
Simpsons and MEN are the best Sitcoms. And the Shows GNTM (our ANTM) and "Deutschland sucht den Superstar" (like American Idol) are the best.

Yep, Aussie here too. Having given up on the networks here in Oz a couple of years ago now, I now visit TVBythenunmbers daily to work out what is worth downloading. It's more efficient than downloading shows that won't last long (I also don't like having incomplete series...call me weird). Roll on Chuck and Lost!

AppleSitnx I think In Italy the highest ratings are for House and Lost .
In Italy there is a long tradition of dubbing , in the past, especially for movies, the dubbng was excellent ( sometimes even better than original ) . However the number of products to be dubbed increased exponentially in the past 20 years and so the quality decreased a lot .
That's why a lot of people now follow American ( and british shows) differently ....

Shows that do well internationally but don't do well in the U.S. are still on the air. Which is why My Name Is Earl from 2005-2009 despite it's low viewership was able to be on the air until both the U.S. and the world stopped watching it.

Which American shows are currently popular in your country?
Where English is not the primary language, are the American shows usually dubbed or subtitled?
I'll be thinking of you next time ratings for particular shows are featured. I also think this site could benefit from having offices in the Caribbean because of the data shown in the second table.

As Canadian T.V. has mostly USA programming in prime time (with a few Cdn shows), we pay close attention to the USA ratings. Plus, yes, we get quite a few American networks on our cable system (time shifting too). I find it interesting to see how the USA shows perform, as if they get cancelled in the USA, they no longer will air here as well.

Julia, where are you getting that information about more guns per capita in Canada? According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_gun_ownership, the United States is #1 with 90 guns per 100 people, while Canada is #8 with just 31.5 guns per 100 people.

That's funny. I don't even give a crap about the ratings in the country where I was born.

Heck, I barely even know what they air there anymore.

To r2zv2n, who wrote "hey where is ROMANIA:)…." and Radu:

My guess is that ratings of TV shows about vampires, leeches, politicians and similar blood suckers, money suckers, power suckers, face suckers, tonsil suckers and assorted sucking types, are no big deal in the land where it all began.
