Heroes had around 16 million for its first season. So I’m pretty sure the call letters are not Heroes’ problem.

Well, there’s your problem. Just have NBC and USA switch their three letters, and suddenly the USA broadcast network will be getting 20 million viewers with 9.0 ratings to watch Heroes, while Psych on the new cable channel NBC gets cancelled when new episodes start pulling just 100,000 viewers.

They tried airing Monk & Psych on NBC during the writer’s strike. They pulled them soon after. It got less viewership than on USA.

Sucks that happened, because I really wanted both shows to gain viewers, since they’ve more than earned it.

Network channels reach way more households than most cable networks so there is a larger potential audience. More people would have a chance to watch the show. They tried it with Psych a couple years ago but they aired a random 3rd season episode instead of the pilot like the should have. Its hard to grab new viewers if they don’t understand how he became a fake psychic.

Except that White Collar is being matched with Burn Notice in January and Psych is flying solo. Not to say that they couldn’t be paired up for Summer 2010.

While I love many USA shows, a big USA hit show gets 4-5 million total viewers, i.e. Jay Leno type numbers. Is there any reason to think they would suddenly pull twice as many viewers and 3.0ish demos if they were network shows?

As usual, USA is thinking ahead. Notice that they split the Monk and Psyche ‘partnership’ up this 1/2 season in order to introduce White Collar. This was no accident. The idea is to establish another compatable second show and then match it up with Psyche so there will remain 2 good shows on back to back. As I said, very smart by USA

That Psyche has been renewed should shock no one. In fact, I already thought that it was renewed.
Agree with other posters about how USA’s game plan works so well. The multiple airings at different times maximizes the chances that people will pick up on thier shows. Of course, it certainly helps that they (USA) seem to have a knack for picking good shows and show concepts.
I know its a different network (i.e. ABC), but I’ve thought for a while that “Castle” would have been a great fit on USA Network.
I suppose the multiple showings wouldn’t be so easy to do on a major network, but with NBC it probably wouldn’t hurt. What is surprising is that so many great shows get on USA. Somehow, it would seem that NBC would have an option on them at point early on.

Oddly enough it wasn’t until I began watching Psych that I ever even thought about watching Monk. My big question is how in the hell USA can’t seem to miss with awesome shows that actually pull decent ratings and NBC is just one big screw up after another. I simply can’t believe the same people own both stations.

Psych was the first USA original show that I saw – I watched the premiere and was hooked. Since then, USA hasn’t come out with a single original series that I haven’t really enjoyed.

IMO, USA is one of the most, if not the most, well-run networks on television today.

Always been a fan on Psych and USA network in general. I’m really liking “White Collar” and enjoyed “Royal Pains” over the summer. I think Royal Pains already has been renewed for next summer, and the buzz on White Collar has been good.

Is it just me or could the networks learn a thing or two about how to run their business from USA? Not much that they put out there doesn’t turn to gold in the terms of being fan friendly(multiple airings of episodes in a week) and Nielsen ratings.

Psych is one of those rare shows that blends humor with drama and the accessibility of self contained episodic procedural crime shows. Over the past few years Psych, Reaper, and Supernatural are the gold standard of the “tv dramedy”. Sure there might be funnier shows in the half hour form and better drama in the hour long but those shows are the ones that don’t rely as heavily on one or the other to keep people interested.
