The president is tentatively scheduled to address the nation about his Afghanistan plan in primetime next Tuesday, December 1.

Once a date is confirmed, we'll post any scheduling impact/changes that result.  NBC is surely hoping the address will move to Monday or Wednesday  as Tuesdays has been one of its best nights with The Biggest Loser leading into The Jay Leno Show.  A new episode of The Biggest Loser is on tap for next Tuesday, as is a new So You Think You Can Dance on FOX.

CBS has reruns of  NCIS and NCIS: LA scheduled, followed by the Victoria Secret Fashion Show.

ABC has the classic  A Charlie Brown Christmas, a new Disney holiday special, two new episodes of Scrubs and a new episode of The Forgotten scheduled.

The CW, which typically doesn't air presidential addresses nationally, has new episodes of 90120 and Melrose Place scheduled.

Hope he changes it to Wednesday. ABC is in repeats next Wednesday except Eastwick.

NBC just announced they’re airing The Biggest Loser from 9-11 and pre-empting Jay Leno for the night. Not sure about the other networks.

This surely sets the record for PT addresses by a POTUS in a calendar year. I’d rather read about it than sit through some canned Washington speak.

  4. What does this make for prime-time speeches by Obama? 42? I wonder if any other network will join Fox in not carrying it.

Was looking forward to the new disney holiday special. Oh well maybe ABC will air it Wednesday at 8. Charlie Brown is suppose to air both next Tuesday and December 8 so that wont matter.

Scott, if a network were to join FOX in not airing these press conferences, it would be ABC. He always schedules these press conferences at the worst time for ABC. ABC has been really promoting Prep and Landing. I hope ABC doesnt air this nonsense at all!

  7. Does he need a press conference for every decision he makes or only those involving his poll numbers?

  8. Yamauchi

not interested in hearing Obama try to justify sending 35,000 troops to Afghan

  9. The Jay Leno Show, good for something. Easy pre-emption!

  10. josh

at least he his keeping his promise on this issue and trying to win this war…i’m actually going to watch this one

  11. Sam

Man I kinda wish McCain had one, he’d be in bed by 8.

“After long and careful deliberation … and with our allies’ approval … I have decided … that it is in the best interest of our nation … to deploy 35,000 more troops to Afghanistan.”

Wow, that would be messed up for ABC

*eyerolls* ANOTHER speech in prime time? Oh well~ I’ll be watching FOX on Tuesday night anyway.

I agree that President Obama has given too many press conferences/speeches in primetime. I believe he’s averaging at least one a month. I’m surprised he didn’t have one during the entire month of October, so I figured he was due for one.

CBS will obviously be the least impacted, just pre-empt a rerun. With that said, if Obama continues his current pace, I wouldn’t be surprised to see at least one other network follow Fox’s lead and say “no more” to Obama’s primetime speeches.

  17. Josh Emerson

I just hope it doesn’t affect the premiere of Scrubs.

  18. Devdog

Scrubs 2.0 was likely going to have a hard time catching on as it is, but if this speech runs into that timeslot at all, it will make it that much harder for Scrubs to gain any traction. I’m just glad this presser isn’t on the following Tuesday, where it might interfere with Better Off Ted.

  19. Jon

ABC could easily move the Christmas Specials to Wednesdays or drop an episode of Scrubs and have one of the two at 9pm with the other one, the next day.

Wonder if NCIS LA will be dropped and CBS airs NCIS at 9pm to give Victoria’s Secrets a better lead in.

  20. Joe

Devdog…Better Off Ted is in the same boat that Scrubs is in. In fact, the worse Scrubs does, the more likely it is that Ted will do bad as well. Neither series is setting the Nielsens on fire, and their fates are probably tied to one another, so Ted fans better hope that Scrubs succeeds.
