I think it's a little easier for the casual person to follow V than FlashForward. Even though both are serial.
V is so dumbed down and bad, that it's easier for average person, to tune in.

im from germany and i got to say whats up with all americans allways watching NCIS and CSI and all this kind of crime shows its always the same storyline.
i was waiting so desperatly for a new sci fi show like lost and i think abc did a good job with bringing in 2 new shows with flash forward and V but i do not get the whole break at all. I comprehend why they quit for a month during christmas and all that but untill march u gotta be freaking kiddin me.
By the way does ff go on a break too its really hard for me to get any information about these kind of topics and futhermore i gotta say i like v mor than ff in the beginning it was different but i gotta say the last ff episode 9 really sucked badly
But anyways i cant wait for lost final season to air but i doubt that it will be able to fulfill its high expectations there are just too many questions left to be answered and i doubt u can really answer them all in one season
Well i have been waitign

Amazing how many shows there are in the 3.0 range most nights. Makes it harder to sort through them and decide big winners from big losers. Scripted shows, except for the procedurals ( and as far as 18-49 viewers, even them) have a sort of statistical parity. I can see network share of prime time dropping as usual significantly over the year before, with still a relatively small % of them cancelled before one year or so are up. Cutting way back on pilots, which is one thing I read the nets are doing, seems to mean you have to act more slowly to cancel shows you're just going to replace with a similar format anyway - sitcoms are always going to be a half hour and come in sets of two and four, and crime procedurals are going to be an hour long and air at either nine or ten central. Unless you gamble on sticking a reality show in an hour long time slot, like Fox used to do, it's hard to see how you can get out of a hole.

V has potential. But the long break is needed. The last three episodes have been very boring. No real surprises. No real hook to come back in March. It needs new energy. ABC realized this, and good for them. The show needs a new direction. I really liked the pilot. But it has quickly become a stinker. Sorry..just my opinion.

The only ratings surprise to me was: CBS won the night in 18-34. How often does THAT ever happen?

Between A Charlie Brown Christmas, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, I Want A Dog For Christmas Charlie Brown, the Shrek Christmas Special, The Year Without A Santa Claus, and Rudolph's Shiny New Year, they will have 8:00 pm (7:00 CST) all set for December.

To everyone saying that V's ratings steadied because it was the fall finale: I had no idea it was the fall finale (and I'm disappointed that it was). I'm betting a lot of other people didn't know either.

I think V steadied out because each episode has been better than the last. The pilot was disappointing, but, the ~9 million people that stuck around were rewarded. If the pilot had been better, I bet it might have steadied at 11 million.

NCIS:LA got helped big time by crossover.
Last week it got 3.2 and 14 million, it was settling in that range.
Everything gets pounded once IDOL returns, so NCIS:LA better enjoy there solid numbers now, it's going to be have borderline numbers in new year.
It looks alot like Private Practice. By itself it really doesn't stand on it's own, but with leadin and more promotion and time it'll be fine.

Glad to see The Good Wife went up to 2.8 and maintaining it 12 million+ viewers.

The Biggest Loser is one steady show I must say and SYTYCD's numbers are low, I wonder if Fox will try a fall season again next year.

It would have been great if V went up but at least it didn't drop at all

Everyone, V is on a pre-determined hiatus due to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. There was no way the show would've survived the five-week long competition. Hell, the show is filmed on location in Vancouver! I wish the morons at ABC would've made their viewers aware of this colossal fact!

Way to go V- I love the new V and last nights episode really put it into perspective. They also recently released the DVR viewership numbers for the first episode which pushed the viewership past 16 million so I am wondering if that will be the same for these last 3 episodes. I don't want to wait until March but that was when V was originally planned to start anyway. They decided to do a trial run of the show to see if they should continue it and they have decided to continue the show. The wanted to avoid continuing the show during the winter olympics and the start of American Idol. Keep it up V!!!

Probably the reason that NCIS got edged out is because stupid channel 5 out of Green Bay PRE-EMTED it so that it could show the absurd Appleton Christmas Parade instead. They showed NCIS after Late Late Night. So any Nielson box in NE Wisconsin was thwarted, and most of the people I know watch it.

"Interesting that neither Leno nor Good Wife fell with DWTS instead of Forgotten. I guess DWTS’ audience normally watches cable at that hour?"

More likely in bed given how old it skews.

So V managed to cling onto a 3.1 at the end. While I doubt this has a lot to do with it, I thought last night's episode was the best so far, way better than the second and third ones, it finally hit the right tone and pacing.

The big question is, will it cling onto a ~3.0 come March? That's a tall order, as the post-Lost slot (which it's all but certain to be in, with Lost being Tuesdays at 9) is historically a death slot, and I wonder how many people will remember four episodes four months from now.

Though it's still probably in better shape than FlashForward for now.

Only about 1/5th of the NCIS audience is in the 18-49 demo. Compare that to a show like House, where nearly half the total viewers are 18-49. In other words, a heck of a lot of seniors are watching NCIS.

Re "V"- last week, wasn't it with the final numbers that it increased to its 9.3m viewers count? So, it still could go up when the final numbers are in, correct? Nonetheless, decent showing. ABC touted it as "the last episode of 2009," so that could have helped maintain levels.

NCIS kicked serious ass once again. The show did a great 18-49 demo (which is overrated by advertisers). And NCIS attracts a huge young audience of servicemen and women and their spouses, plus those who are recently out of the armed forces. It's the best show on TV - scripted or reality. Now drop and give me 20!

People 18-49 watch it; it's just skewed old. The majority of viewers are old.

Like, over 130% more people overall watched NCIS vs. Loser, while only over 30% more 18-49'ers watched.

I am tired of people saying that people 18-49 don't watch NCIS. When we do I am 27 and I watch NCIS. A lot I mean a lot of people I have met watch NCIS anmd they too are between the ages of 18-49. People do your research first before you speak. I don't care what that numbers say a lot of people between 18-49 watch NCIS.

I thought the ending scene for V was a little off
like the graphics weren't that great
it just doesn't compare to BSG

I guess I'll probably be alone on this but I'm not at all impressed with this version of V. The dialogue sucks, the characters are one dimensional and the plot is too damn slow.

"They should have given us shots of the V’s in their true form by now. Let the viewers know that they are non humanoid lizards beneath the exterior. Let us see what they look like!!"
Carmen thanks for making my point. When Ana did her nude scene I thought okay so now she's going to shed her human form. WRONG. Instead all we got was "bliss" WTF!?

"Isn’t the human body just like a shell to these lizards? How does skinning the body kill them?"
You are correct. The V's are alien reptiles and skinning them should have no effect on them whatsoever because it's their true form. Good writing would have explained that to newbies but like I said before the dialogue sucks.

I hope Scott Peters and company pick up the pace come March because I've seen this before. Heroes first season anyone? Now look at Heroes now a slow painful death. The only exciting moment last night was the hugh visitor fleet making it's way to earth. Hopefully they're bringing a better script, characters with depth and warp-speed for the plot.

I was on the verge of giving up on V after episode 2 but it turned things around well with better pacing and character building.

The long hiatus will hurt it but not as bad as rushing things and making a Flashforward type sloppy show would hurt it.

If ABC would re-air V - i would most likely watch it...but they need to enforce local affiliates to play it on the right time slot !

ABC rerun the first four episodes and you will have another viewer - Don't then I guess I wait for the DVD..

On a side note DWTS - I see recaps on various entrtainment programs...Ummmmm.....that's NOT dancing...nor are most of them stars...so ABC change the show's name to "People Who THINK They Are Stars That Are Pretending To Dance"...and then I will watch it - call it what it IS...or don't name it at ALL ! :)

I would like to make some points about Biggest Loser as well...These people are opening up their lives and health and are to be applauded for their courage. I didn't watch the first couple years, as I felt they were taking advantage of the contestants, portraying them as in some kind of 'freak' show. That changed the same year Alison Sweeney came on board, and the contestants were treated with respect. The show has helped millions and inspired people to tackle all kinds of issues in their lives head on... This season I have a little bone to pick, as bringing in people like Suzie Orman to dump on the contestants as being the reason the health care industy and our economy is tanking is both rediculous and unfair. So many patients are in waiting rooms for complications from smoking, drinking, lack of health care until a serious condition erupts, neglect of parents, drug abuse, you name it. And to complain about the overweight destroying our economy, well, i don't think those 'fat cats' on Wall Street are worrying about the cholesterol content of their filet mignon, or the ramifications of an after work martini or two. Biggest Loser producers, please reject the temptation to use money pumped to you by insurance moguls to dump on your contestants and viewers. Those pleasing ratings will tank in a hurry. Overweight does not = stupid.

I thought the first episode of V was alright. I didn't bother tuning into the rest of the series so far. I plan to wait for a dvd release if the show moves onto a second season (and as long as the show doesn't revolve around teenage brats) I just don't have the patience anymore for a long hiatus. I wish the networks would run a fictional series the way they do their reality shows and the way Fox handles "24".

Nice numbers for "V". Really enjoying that. Can't believe we got to wait so long for more. May be a good thing though, won't get worn out so fast. A short season can really be a blessing with shows like this.

@ Riff -

Thanks, no pun here but I forgot the forgotten had gotten more episodes but not quite a full season. So I guess that will hold the slot into March until V takes over.

CSM, "The Forgotten" will be in that slot through early March. Yes, I imagine "V" will return on March 23 Tuesdays 10:00 after the first "Dancing with the Stars" results show.

THE FOLLOWING IS A RANT OVER THE DESTRUCTION OF A FORMER FAVORITE SHOW:

Tho I watched Dancing With The Stars, ( I was encouraged to watch by my kids, who were only interested in seeing Donny Osmond win for some reason...I didn't know they even knew who he was. My 17 yr. old thinks he's 'hot')...I tuned to Biggest Loser as soon as they didn't notice me slipping out of the room. DWTS was SOOOOOOOOOO boring. All evening all I heard was "This is stupid, why don't they get on with the results?". I have to agree, but my big question is, why not fill the hours with recaps of the best dances, routines by the very talented professionals, and let each contestant do a dance by themselves? The idiotic 'comedy' sketches are pathetic, the 'duet' dances pairing a good couple with a mediocre one are pointless, and Samantha's 'compliment' that Kelly Osbourne was now a swan led one to believe she was implying that she was what? An Ugly Duckling before the competition? We won't even get in to Whitney Houston's performance where she didn't even bother trying to sing along with her vocal double and just started dancing! No wonder this show is jumping the shark. They don't trust simple dancing by novices paired with pros and good music to get the viewers to tune in...they've manipulated the theme of the show until it is unrecognizable...too bad. We loved the first season when actually being judged on acurate dance steps was the point. Now it's 'Who's wearing the skimpiest costume', and 'who does creepy Bruno stalk this year?' Why not a new season that has 1rst and 2nd place winners from each season compete?...or actually have the contestants compete against each other with the SAME dance each week? How do you judge a tango against a quick step anyway? And all of these 'head to head' competitions are just an obvious way for the network to promote their favorites over the viewers favorites...give me a break...PLEASE QUIT MESSING WITH A SHOW AMERICA'S FAMILIES COULD WATCH TOGETHER and go back to your original vision ABC.

I would guess with V holding steady and the fact that FF keeps dropping that V is most likely to air Tue @ 10 after LOST. It's probably the best chance in the "death slot" since fans might stick around to see more of Elizabeth Mitchell. The only issue with this is that LOST returns on 2-2 and starting 2-9 ABC needs something here, but V isn't coming back until March. So either ABC will air specials here during sweeps and to go up against the Olympics and then bring V back or they have other plans for this slot. I don't really know where else V would go though. I can't imagine they plan to leave it at 8 to go head to head with Idol after being off for 3 months.

Maybe someone here can help me cause I'm confused about the lizard-human skin thing. Isn't the human body just like a shell to these lizards? How does skinning the body kill them? Or are they skinning the lizard part?

ABC might have something with "V." Just as long as they make sure to keep it in the public conscious. You know, consistent on-air promotion. Repeating the 4 hours next Feb/Mar so people can catch up. What else can they do? What are the kids into these days? Webisodes? Ringtones? Apps? Well, whatever they can do, they should do it. "Lost" has a big audience, but most of them seemingly just shut off their TVs the second it ends and go online to babble about it. So ABC can't rely on them.
