i'm sorry but Glee sucks. It may be considered a "hit" but I wouldn't watch it even if I got paid. As for House, it's ratings actually went slightly up at the begining of this season. And you can't really compare the share with that of season two or three (when it was near 7) because those ratings used to be calculated differently and DVR and online viewing was not as popular then. Also, USA was not airing the reruns in order then. Honestly, if House wanted their rating to go up (they don't need it cuz they're still the number one monday night show) they should just stop airing the current season on USA until it ends.

Congratulations FOX for your victory. Part of me however thinks that FOX needs some sort of Daytime to fill out their schedule to feel like a full fledged network. News Simucast from FNC maybe.
ex.
9-11 America's Newsroom
7-8 Fox Report with Shep Smith
8-10 Primetime
11-12 Primetime FNC Programing

Any thoughts.

Kate success is relative and whilst Glee isn't winning its slot in the 18-49 or total viewers I suspect that Fox don't care for numerous reasons, all of which are why the show can considered nothing but a success. Firstly its important to consider the relative success of Glee, looking at the rest of Fox's hour longs its only behind House on the season to date average so far, its out performing Bones and Fringe and more importantly its out performing Lie To Me, which has the much valued House lead-in. That's very impressive for a new show, how much do you think ABC would be trumpeting a new hour long if it was only behind Grey's Anatomy in the season to date average? Success if first and foremost relative and right now Fox doesn't have a spectacularly successful drama line-up.

Away from that Glee consistently and impressively builds on its lead-in every week. Two weeks ago for example So You Think You Can Dance pulled a 2.1 in the 18-49, Glee meanwhile scored a 3.3 that's a big jump. More importantly than that though is Glee's performance in the 18-34 demo, which is the demo Fox went on record as saying they were targeting on Wednesday night before the season started. Nothing else on Wednesday is touching Glee's 18-34 numbers and every week its aired it has easily led Fox to victory in the 18-34 demo.

Above and beyond all that though is the shows success with women 18-34 which is huge. Again two weeks ago the show did a 5.4 with women 18-34. I suspect that the only shows that can beat or compete with that number would be Grey's and Desperate Housewives right now but I don't really know. But if you think Fox isn't raking in the dollars with numbers like that you're living in a dream land. The commercial success of the shows musical numbers can't hurt its success rating either.

Whether you like Glee or not (and clearly you're not a fan) its hard to deny that Glee has been anything but a success story for Fox. If nothing else when was the last time a new drama on Fox did a 3+ every week (excluding the Thanksgiving anomaly Glee has done that) without the aid of a weekly House or Idol lead-in? In fact when was the last time any drama on Fox done that without the aid of a weekly Idol or House lead-in?

Kate, Glee isn't competing against shows on other networks. It's competing against shows on Fox. On Fox, Glee is the #2 scripted hour-long show currently.

The previous week, Glee got 3.2 and was beaten in the timeslot by both Criminal Minds and Modern family, both of which had a 3.7 in the demos and several millions more viewers.

If it gets beaten in its own timeslot by two other programs, how can it be a strength for Fox? I came from a science background maybe that's why I can't make any sense of these numbers.

As regards House, it's still strong but nowhere as strong as it was a year ago much less two years ago. Fox can still boast about it but they'd better come up with a good stunt for February sweeps.

Parenthood, that's less than Fox's average for sweeps, therefore Glee was pulling it down. Do you not understand that?

Yes, there will be no World Series in Feb / May but Idol is back as well as Jack Bauer plus premiere of Human Traget so FOX will recover.

To johnthemon's point, anything under Fox's average for the month of November was pulling it down. Fox averaged 3.6, Glee averaged less than that. Yes, it's doing very good and Fox is definitely happy with it, but it can't really be given credit for Fox winning November sweeps.

(But, seriously, Kate? You haven't figured out yet that the night before Thanksgiving is an anomaly? Everything was way down, and will doubtless bounce right back up.)

Kate, except for the pre-Thanksgiving Wednesday, which any reasonable person could discount, Glee has averaged a 3.30 rating this fall. That's why it's in a better situation than Castle which has averaged a 2.36.

There's a huge difference between a 2.36 and a 3.30.

Glee pulled in a 2.5 demo Wednesday with only 6.3 million viewers.

To put Glee into context, Lie To Me, which only now got the back-order for the last 9 episodes, is doing well, had 2.7 in the demo and 7.27 million viewers.

Castle, which is in the 'may be cancelled' area, also had 2.7 in the demo and 10.46 million viewers. That Glee is a hit while Castle is not is the bizarro world of TV ratings.

Of the three, Glee is doing the worst and yet it's considered the hit.

Kate, but there is American Idol in February & May, which usually takes care of FOX during February and May. This year it has the Olympics to contend with in February, plus Ellen instead of Paula Abdul.

Glee pulled in a 2.5 demo Wednesday with only 6.3 million viewers.

House is down to 4.5 demo, a big drop from 7+ two seasons ago and has lost over a third of its overall auidence.

The World Series won it for Fox.

They need to make their regular shows better because there is no World Series in February or May.

Only because of World Series, despite some quality shows putting good numbers. But when I say some I don't mean the whole schedule, which is, for me, unpleasing.

Also, Fox News the best news channel? Alright, what? Seriously, that's crap. Never on earth I'd think that a news channel that manipulates a lot - and not here and there, but A LOT - and only shows a point of view is a good, or even a decent, news channel.
