George-Lopez

I love a good brawl, but when both sides of the brawl involve the same person, it gets especially interesting.  That's what happened last week when Nick at Night moved reruns of The George Lopez Show to air head-to-head against George Lopez' new late night show on TBS, Lopez Tonight.

It's not every day you get to write that George Lopez seriously got his ass kicked by…George Lopez.

Keep in mind that this is just in average viewers and not in the demographics, and that you can't  put too much stock in  holiday weeks, but last week the best Lopez Tonight outing was on Wednesday where it averaged 1.59 million viewers between 11p-12p.

Over on Nick at Night in that exact same hour, two reruns of The George Lopez Show combined to  average 2.58 million viewers.  So at least in average viewers, the Lopez sitcom reruns bested the Lopez late night talk show by almost a million viewers or around 62 percent.

The good news for George Lopez (Lopez Tonight version) is that scheduling appeared to be a one-time thing for Nick at Night, perhaps due to the holiday week.  The sitcom reruns did not go head-to-head with The Talk show in the previous week, and looking at the current week's schedule, there's no head-to-head scheduling this week either.

I’m sure George Lopez thinks prejudice against latino americans have something to do with it. What an unfunny hack.

  2. Joleen

Nick had a Thanksgiving week of George Lopez Show all week from 9pm-6am….what were the ratings on Mon, Tues and Thurs for the Nick at Nite GLo vs Lopez Tonight?

  3. Rios

anthony must be an idiot if he thinks no such prejudice exists. george lopez is funny and it’s great to finally have a new face on late night rather than the same people who give the same monologue night after night although i do love conan o brien. jay leno, jimmy fallon, carson daly, hell even david letterman shouldn’t have any shows anymore because they’re just not funny. the only late night i watch is george lopez, jimmy kimmel, and conan mostly because the guests for the last two though. the scheduling of george lopez reruns was for thanksgiving they even had a promo for it while it was on

  4. Hot Pocket

George Lopez is the man and he’s a cool dude. SHOOW!

    You got that right. :D

Yes Rios, prejudice does exist but not EVERYWHERE. Lopez acted like any criticism was racism (at least the two times I saw him in interviews before yawning) though so Anthony made a good point. Maybe if I watched the show then Lopez could have had better, less idiotic, moments but I’m in no rush to tune in to a guy who wants to blame someone else’s hate for his problems.

Well obviously Nick At Nite won, The George Lopez Show is one of the few genuinely funny sitcoms left on TV! Meanwhile Lopez Tonight is a spiritless talk show. So much for “high-energy format”. His interview skills have a lot of catching up to do.

The real question is how are reruns of the George Lopez show topping 2.5 million viewers? Huhwhat?

  9. The interesting number is that over 4 million watched the two Lopez shows combined. Those numbers are better than most of the network talk show! Lopez wins all around.

PS Anthony, you obviously don’t like George Lopez so why do you comment here? I always find it interesting when people who obviously have very normal lives comment on someone who has done such extraordinary things with their lives. I think thou doth protest too much!

We stopped watching Nick at Night when you replaced Home Improvement with George Lopez. Put Home Improvement back on like it was until then Good Bye.

  11. David

I agree with Anthony. I love comedy and comedians but when all your jokes involve being Mexican or Latino it gets real old real quick. We get it; your Mexican and it’s so funny.

For all the haters who will jump on this like I’m making racist remarks go watch Katt Williams. He makes jokes about being black yes, but it’s not the only thing he talks about.

I agree with John Kovatch. We quit Nick at Night when they deleted Home Improvement and there is no prejudice here – we loathe equally George Lopez, Roseanne and Archie Bunker. Abusive, vulgar and often cruel is never funny in our opinion. Give us Home Improvement and Cosby which are funny and timeless as are Dick Van Dyke and Bob Newhart. Roseanne must be the cheapest show to get for late night because Nick has it on everywhere – but then crass and cheap often go together. And note that Nick at Night is one of the few networks that does not have an email address to let viewers express opinions – guess they don’t care.
