While all this information is in our overnight post for Tuesday, I thought it worthwhile to split it off into a separate post that I will update when we get more information like final numbers and cable network numbers.
We do not have combined, or final, numbers for last night's Presidential address yet, but for comparison, for his September 9 telecast in the preliminary ratings from 8pm-9pm the president averaged 21.2 million on ABC (adults 18-49 rating/share =1.8/5, 7.4 million total viewers), CBS (1.2/4, 5.63 million) and NBC (1.9/6.8.16 million).
Also, it's worth noting that comparing a 1 hour address to a 30 minute address is somewhat apples to oranges.
For last night, in prelminary numbers:
| Time | Net | Show | 18-49 Rating | 18-49 Share | Viewers Live+SD (million) |
| 8:00 | NBC | Presidential Address | 2.1 | 6 | 8.653 |
| CBS | Presidential Address | 1.9 | 6 | 10.158 | |
| FOX | Presidential Address | 1.8 | 5 | 4.573 | |
| ABC | Presidential Address | 1.7 | 5 | 7.460 |
Among the 4 broadcast networks covering the 30 minute address last night, there were 30.84 million average viewers. Among just the 3 that covered the Sept. 9 address, there were 26.3 million. So using just these preliminary broadcast only numbers, the average viewership was up anyway you look at it vs. Sept. 9.
Here are the final combined numbers (32.1 million average viewers) for the September 9 address.

“…it’s worth noting that comparing a 1 hour address to a 30 minute address is somewhat apples to oranges.”
You lie! (Playful reference to an awkward moment from the September 9 address)
This is what happens when a President has actual news to give in his speech and isn’t just wanting attention or repeating what he’s repeat time and time again.
i actually watched it haven’t seen his other speeches tho
My wife and I were fighting over whether we were going to watch the address or watch El Nombre de Amor on Univision, but the address was on Univision as well
I’d be interested to here their ratings for it.
Yeah, because if the President pulls a .59 they just might only give him a 3 episode deal instead of a full back 9. So he would get a smiley face on the chart, then?
Interesting to see CBS come out so strong. Probably some of their primetime viewers actually interested in the speech and stuck around, instead of CBS News actually bringing in more viewers.
