How come TV by the numbers doesn’t cover Univision? With news like this, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be. Aren’t it’s ratings similar to CW?
Allen: not enough reader interest for the overnight reporting. Its ratings are better than the CW’s, though although they are targeting different ad markets (Univision’s ads are in Spanish)
And I was just thinking about it. I believe they only have the 3 shows that are all on 5 days a week. And there is no sense in a renew/cancel index for them because they have all new shows every season I think. From what it seems, they run the shows for a season, then create a new show and reuse all the same storylines, just with different characters.
“From what it seems, they run the shows for a season, then create a new show and reuse all the same storylines, just with different characters.”
Their “telenovelas” are provided by Mexican channel Televisa.
Apart from having the usual key elements replicated more than often, some of them are remakes of old big novelas hits (when Sortilegio ends next year, they will start with Corazon selvaje which has already been done 3-4 times in Mexico).
The telenovela formula is popular in Central/South America (and has been popular a couple of decades ago in some Mediterranean countries too): they are like soap opera with a fixed end, they may run 100-200 episodes but at the end of the cycle the happy ending arrives, the evil is defeated, the leading couple will live forever in happyness.
