  1. Johnny

I hate that Kimmel and Fallon are going head to head. Both of these guys are very funny.

  2. Bizarro

I like them both also! I usually pull Fallon’s show the next morning off the nbc site. Much too late to stay up and enjoy, like I do the next morning!!!!

Fallon is very funny! and the Roots ROCK!

  3. charlie d

Man, I just don’t get the appeal. Have we lowered our standards so much that this guy with just an average delivery, average writers and below average interviews gets to remain on tv? guess so.

  4. JK

If you don’t like the show then don’t watch, not everyone is smart enough to enjoy the show. I understand Yo Gabba Gabba is still on, maybe you can watch that instead.

  5. charlie d

Harvard educated, 25+ year employed comedy writer.

The show just sucks, Kimmel is very replaceable, it’s completely played out and needs to go away. And will fairly soon. ABC can’t carry an unprofitable show much past 7 years, no matter how badly they wanna keep the time slot from the affiliates.

  6. zoddguts

Eh can’t say this is a big deal considering Kimmel airs 30 mins earlier than Fallon and Craig so of course it would have better ratings since more people are still up then. Anyways still good to see Craig holding up well. :)

  7. JK

haha, Charlie D proclaims he has a Harvard education and works as a comedy writer for 25 years and then proclaims that Jimmy Kimmel is losing money for ABC! WAY TO LOSE ALL CREDIBILITY!!! I wasn’t aware Harvard offered special education classes or were they liar classes?

  8. JK, Charlie D was talking about Conan, not himself (unless Charlie D too is a Harvard grad who has been a comedy writer for 25 years).

  9. Robert,

I’m pretty sure charlie d was referring to himself. Also, not sure where Conan came up in the convo, unless you meant Kimmel. As for JK, I agree. ABC wouldn’t have spent 7 years with Kimmel if he were losing so much money. Additionally, his ratings have increased in the demos along with Nightline making ABC the #1 network in Latenight TV in demos and other key categories, though not #1 in the television definition of Latenight TV.

  10. Lem

    Gents:

Sorry, but Charlie D is actually correct. ABC hasn’t made a penny with Kimmel, rather has hemorrhaged money with that show for years. That’s just a fact. ( I worked in Disney biz affairs until recently when I got laid off) The integrations you see at the top of the show are there to offset some of that damage, but there is really only ONE reason ABC hasn’t canceled Kimmel – and it ain’t good ratings, or any significant buzz. Fact is, they don’t want to give that hour back to the affiliates. Period. Kimmel has been a financial disaster since day one. They have cut budget to the bone each year and not a single writer has gotten a raise (other than WGA mandated ones) EVER!!! That’s right, EVER.

It’s a nothing show, with nothing to show for its 7 years. Oh, other than Kimmel making some zero-experience hack he’s banging the head writer. That’s been the funniest thing to come out of it. But yeah, ABC would love to find something or someone else.

  11. JK

Lem, just because you worked in a Goofy Costume at Magic Mountain does not make you an insider on the finances of Jimmy Kimmel Live. The show makes millions for ABC and the ratings are consistently getting better. I am an actual insider and there is no way ABC would switch hosts and Molly does not have Zero Experience, she worked with Steve and Daniel from the beginning of the show and that gives her almost 7 years experience. The writers have been getting raises, where are you people getting these things? I think you people should go watch something else like Leno and see everyone else’s bits that he’s stolen over the years.

  12. Lem

Not switch hosts. Cancel the show. Which will happen before Kimmel’s contract is up at the end of ’10. Take it to the bank.

I saw the budget JK. It’s a mess over there! Nobody gets raises and nobody will.

And Jimmy stole his entire act 1 from Talk Soup, with a little Not Necessarily The News tossed in. Stop with the morale high ground Leno crap – he’s a hack and everyone at the network knows it. His ratings haven’t budged since day one. Just biding time and then bye bye sleepy face.

  13. JK

Lem, read the title of this story, The show has consistently went UP in ratings, you know nothing about the budget and it’s hilarious that you continue to try to argue this. And it’s not talk soup, it’s called The Soup, an insider like yourself should know that. Most people would say that the opening is stolen from 1980′s Letterman but an insider like yourself references a canceled show from the 90′s. Take this to the bank, Jimmy Kimmel Live will celebrate 20 years on the air and Jimmy isn’t leaving until he decides to leave.

  14. Lem

It was still called Talk Soup back in August of 2002 when it was completely stolen by Kimmel during his pre-production period, genius. Fact.

Ask anyone in the ABC accounting department if Kimmel’s show makes money. It simply doesn’t. It’s a loser since day one. Fact.

The show has maintained around a 1.6/4 for most of its run. And even those are cherry picked numbers from ABC. Fact.

ABC will replace it when it finds a show that will avoid having to give that hour back to affiliates. Fact.

Chelsea Handler’s show often beats Kimmel in certain key demos. That’s basic cable, son! Fact.

If Steve McPherson gets fired as some are predicting, Kimmel won’t even make it to the end of ’10. Fact.

There were several other more qualified existing writers on Kimmel’s show that deserved to be promoted to head writer over his girlfriend. That retarded decision was and probably still remains a joke at the network, though I wouldn’t know anymore because I was laid off. Fact.

You wouldn’t be arguing with me if you really believed in what you were arguing. Why are you even arguing with me? Because you’re an idiot. Fact.

I’ve both won and am done with this argument and you should check all the facts I just mentioned. Fact.
