In late-night metered-market households Saturday night:
Saturday Night Live, hosted by Blake Lively and featuring musical guest Rihanna (4.4 rating/12 share in metered-market households) dominated its time period.
That's on the low end of SNL metered market HH ratings for this season.

All I heard on Saturday was, “Who the hell is Blake Lively?” and “Who watches Gossip Girl?!” I believe the answer to both of those questions is “no one.” So I’m not surprised by the low rating.
Also, they kicked off with a repeat of one of their fake commercials which can’t be good for viewership. If I turn to SNL and think I’m watching a repeat, I’m not going to stay tuned…
They need to rethink how they select hosts this season. I get wishing to attract a certain demo to SNL, but it seems they picks hosts solely based on being born after 1979.
CK… 3 of the first 4 hosts this season were born before 78. Ryan Reynolds, Drew Barrymore and Gerard Butler. But I agree that I’d like to see some slightly older better known performers. Problem is things aren’t like they were when the show started. Look at the list of hosts and they are huge, seasoned pros. But today’s ent. is just younger. Would be great to have a Brad Pitt or Jolie or someone like that… older, famous… people like that could have a blast. I usually like their choices of hosts but this season the 1 that didn’t make sense was January Jones. Blake Lively is on a small demo driven show but she is well known beyond the core fans of the show. Jones is not.
I was making an intentional bit of an overstatement with birthdates, but there are a myriad of stars SNL could use–even if they just stick to NBC: Zachary Levi,Yvonne Strahovski to promote Chuck; Any of the cast from NBC comedies (Looking beyond Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, although they would be obvious excellent choices). Even Jay Leno would be a hoot.
If SNL looks to the other nets: Nathan Fillion (Castle-ABC), Cory Monteith, Jane Lynch, Lea Michele (Glee-FOX), and on and on and on…
Nobody knows who the hell Blake Lively is. Rihanna should’ve just hosted the show by herself.
How do people not know who Blake Lively is? She’s not super famous, but she’s not anonymous. There’s been a lot of very famous hosts this year
When January Jones hosted SNL a few weeks ago no one was saying “Who the hell is January Jones?” or “Who watche Mad Men?”, even though Gossip Girl has higher ratings than Mad Men.
If you dont know Blake Lively than you deserve to get jumped…seriously!!!
I’ve never heard of Blake Lively before and still don’t know who she is really. But I watch the show every week regardless of who the host is. That said, even though my viewership should count as about 10 million, it simply doesn’t and most people aren’t as great as I and only watch select hosts on this show.
But a 4.4 for a no one to host is pretty darn good. I just wish they’d get bigger names because I know they could. January Jones and Blake Lively: who? Even Taylor Swift was a reach for me although apparently she’s quite famous.
Bring in more Gerard Butlers, Ryan Reynolds’, and Alec Baldwins.
I think that they should ask Jimmy Fallon to host, his Late Nite show is getting better each week. That skit about Tiger was the best skit they’ve had for a while.
what is a gossip girl????!!
hahaha
I know I was asking who the hell is January Jones? I dont watch Gossip Girl but even I know who Blake Lively is.
I, too, watch “SNL” regardless of who hosts. I mean, really, Andy Samberg, Bill Hader, Kristin Wiig, Keenan Thompson, and Seth are the reasons to watch the show. Many times, the hosts aren’t that funny, although Justin Timberlake is a notable exception. I would like to see Jimmy Fallon return to host “SNL,” as well as Conan. Shoot, I think George Lopez would be interesting.
I don’t watch Mad Men, but I had seen January Jones in shows before and at least knew her name. I had literally never heard of Blake Lively before she hosted. Plus, I had at least heard great things about Mad Men before Jones hosted. Gossip Girl? Not so much.
