OMG I did not see this coming! ATWT wasnt getting all that bad of ratings. WOW!

  2. RLH

Wow, I wasn’t expecting that at all! Sad news for this former ATWT watcher…

  3. steven

Now, OLTL might be the next last-place daytime soap!

  4. mark-allen

wow…world turns and bonnie hunt all in one day…

    :-(

  5. DenverDean

No way. I can’t believe they are doing this. Wow. I’m so disappointed! My Mom’s primary soap. What a true loss. (I also can’t believe they are cancelling 9 months in advance.)

  6. RLH

Especially since ATWT only trailed OLTL by 45k viewers…though ABC seems more committed to it’s shows than CBS.

  7. Lisa

So soon after Guiding Light went, too. :( I didn’t think it would happen until next year, at least.

  8. steven

At least Y&R and B&B are the Top 2 daytime soaps. But it sucks that ATWT is canceling.

I agree with RLH. ABC is more dedicated to their shows, especially daytime.

  9. rob

ABC is more dedicated to their soaps because they own all of them. CBS doesnt own any of their soaps.

  10. steven

    Oh, didn’t know that.

  11. RLH

Correct. Proctor and Gamble obviously wants out of the soap business.

  12. Vamp Mom

It is sad. My mother got me watching this show when I was like 4 years old and bummed because my brother got to go to school and I didn’t. She loved ATWT’s and watched it every day until her passing in 1987. I feel like I’m losing a friend of my mom’s now.

  13. RLH

ATWT was Must See TV during Douglas Marland’s stewardship (1985-1993). After that, mediocrity set in (I gave up in 1995 and have only watched it a handful of times since).

This is shocking news. I’ve watched ‘As the World Turns’ forever, and I cannot contemplate its being cancelled.

I do hope that P&G at least tries to shop it around to another network, broadcast or cable, like ‘Passions’.

The saddest thing about this is that CBS will probably replace this superbly crafted melodrama with yet another mindless gameshow or crimeshow encores.

This is such sad news. Especially with the great stories they have been delivering the past few months. You can tell where the new writing staff and producers stories are starting to pick up. I honestly thought that CBS would give ATWT at least another year due to the fact that their ratings are not as low as GL was when it was canceled and the fact that OLTL (ATWT competition in my area) ratings are not that far different. They basically jump around each other. This is such a great show and I hope it can find a new home. At least, it’s being canceled early, I just read on another site that if GL had been canceled a month earlier it would have been pick up by Lifetime but their fall line up was complete already.

I”m more an abc watcher oltl and gh, but I hate the fact of these soaps getting cancelled. I’ve watched them all at some point. It really is like losing family. Sorry ATWT fans. It sucks all the stations want is the next big thing. I mean I understand it’s a business but at the least find something that works then go from there. At this point I bet cbs has nothing planned for that timeslot.

  17. BF

Do you think they will come out w/ a new soap opera?

  18. Willie

No BF they think everyone wants to watch stupid game and court shows.

  19. steven

I remember MynetworkTV tried to do telenovelas at one point. Would a telenovela format work for daytime?

  20. McMillian38

Damn this came out of no where.

For some reason I had a feeling this was going to happen a lot sooner than some of us predicted but that’s why NBC needs to take a look at revising this soap and putting it right next to DAYS which is on fire.
