Been following the numbers on this site for a good while. First time commenting.

Pisher is a troll. Why do you people insist on feeding him? You can't win an argument with a troll so the best thing to do is just ignore him.

I predict 2.4 million for the finale, maybe 2.5 if they hype it enough. I wonder if the numbers this week were influenced by the news about the boy who said Dexter was his inspiration for murdering his brother. Any thoughts?

@ Really Tired...

Curb, True Blood, and Entourage are in 'Tier 1'
Hung, Bored to Death, Big Love, Flight of the Conchords, Eastbound & Down are 'Tier 2'
In Treatment (which I LOVE) and No 1 Ladies is 'Tier 3'
Life & Times of Tim was horrible.

Dexter, Californication, and Tudors are 'Tier 1', matching HBO's quality.
Weeds is better than HBO's 'Tier 2', but not quite 'Tier 1' quality.
Haven't watched US of Tara, and Secret Diary is about a 4.
Nurse Jackie is horrible.

As for top rated, 'AWESOME' shows, seems to me like Showtime has a half hour more than HBO, in my humble opinion.

HBO has Curb Your Enthusiasm, Bored to Death, Big Love, True Blood, Entourage, Real Time with Bill Maher, Hung, Flight of the Conchords, In Treatment, Eastbound & Down, The Life & Times of Tim and The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. I'm sure there are others I'm missing.

SHO has Dexter, Nurse Jackie, Californication, Tudors, Inside the NFL, US Of Tara, Secret Diary of a Call Girl and Tracey Ullman.

I like having them both. But HBO's lineup is better. Plus the Pacific Mini series is coming.

I love Dexter. Rita is a part of the show. They have to show Dex on multilple levels. If not the show would be empty with just Dex killing. And as we know shows like that don't last long. Everything can't be sped up so you will have some slow episodes. That's what leads up to a good climax! They know what they're doing. Accept her or not but he needs another half. Just my opinion.

"Dexter" is the best show that almost nobody talks about. Lithgow rivals Jimmy Smits from last season as a great guest player. It's a shame that so many great shows are on pay cable.
It's nice to see the ratings are good. We'll probably get another couple of seasons!

I don't want to murder.

I also don't want to save the world from terrorists in the longest 24 hours of my life.
Nor do I want to be Superman.
Nor do I want to be trapped on an ancient spaceship multiple galaxies away from Earth. (Ok... that'd be sorta cool.)
Nor do I want to be a writer who works with a hot cop and solves New York City crimes.

I do however, wish I was Hank Moody or Chuck Bartowski.

Yeah, Dex should KILL Rita!

Have any of you ever thought that maybe the FBI should be finding out who is watching Dexter multiple times via OnDemand, and maybe looking a little more closely at their behavior?

Might clear a few cases.

No, I don't really mean that.

It would be unconstitutional.

And Dexter fans just want to murder vicariously.

This season of Dexter has been excellent - great character progression for Dexter, and played so well by Michael C. Hall. John Lithgow's Trinity has been chilling too. Like season 1, I have no idea how the story arc is going to resolve. Can't wait for the finale!

Wow, I really look forward to season 4 finale. Maybe some more people will tune up to see the "big secret" that Deb is going to find out. Are the writers going to be original or just stick to th usual things? Anyway, this is always riveting to see a good show getting good ratings even in its 4 season.

It's nice to see people are enjoying S4. I think it's right up there with S1. I can hardly wait for the finale. Normally, I DVR when there is a good football game on, but not this Sunday. I can't wait.

It will be interesting to see how Showtime handles "Dexter" next year once it's contract comes to an end. I'm guessing they will probably want to extend it for another 2 seasons and give all the actors a salary bump. I'd hope so, it's already kind of annoying that the series only gets 12 episodes per season. With 7 total seasons the episode count would reach 84 episodes which is good for syndication.

Isn't Showtime owned by HBO?

This season of Dexter has been great. The second and third seasons had me thinking it was on its way down to inevitable shark-jumping, but this one's been the best since the first. John Lithgow is the man.

I loved the first season, thought the second season was pretty good, however...I watched until about halfway of Dexter's Season 3 with Jimmy Smits but I just couldn't finish the season. I was so bored.

Great programming gets great numbers. Trying to compare the Sopranos' numbers with Dexter's is stupid, Sopranos had a much bigger appeal, had way more storylines and HBO was already an established channel where Dexter is pretty much Showtime's first show, if anything compare it to Oz.

Season 1 was amazing, season 2 was good borderline great, season 3 sucked big time, but this season is up there with season 1. Watching John Lithgow go toe to toe with MCH has been a treat and I hope Lithgow gets recognized for his work with an Emmy nomination.

I miss "Queer as Folk" and "The L-Word" on Showtime...haven't watched since those shows went off...

I think one reason Showtime's movies aren't all that compelling, is because the network is associated with a major motion picture company like HBO.

I've been a huge HBO fan through the years and pretty much watch all their series. But right now, Showtime has the better shows. Dexter and Californication are two of the best shows on television. To say that they are slightly better than network series is ridiculous.

Showtime's best shows are just a little better than the average network series. That's why it's big news for it to get a little over two million viewers.

Showtime's strength like HBO isn't films but the original programming. I doubt that Epix will make a impact. Even Starz which has movies from Disney and Sony Pictures struggles with their original programming.

What does HBO have that Showtime doesn't? I actually subscribe to watch Dexter, Weeds, and Californication. Nurse Jackie is a great surprise too.

But HBO? Sure, they had the Sopranos (which I've never seen), but they don't have anything now. True Blood is part of a vampire fad that will die soon enough.

Ah, the Soprano days.

The Sopranos was a once-in-a-decade-type deal. Comparing even True Blood to Sopranos would have today's HBO looking like dog food compared to the 2000 HBO.

Showtime is an also ran pay channel. Its movies are weak and therefore its viewership is weaker than HBO which has better movies. This 'impression' impacts where viewers turn for all programming. Also, they give Showtime away. We called comcast looking to get it and they're like, "we'll give it to you free for a year!"

Californication, United States of Tara, Dexter - these are good shows and on par with anything HBO produces.

This is mainly due to Lithgow, and the show is going to see declines next season, unless they get another big name to play another highly improbable serial killer.

It's nice that Showtime has finally broken the 2mil barrier with an original series.

Of course, The Sopranos averaged over 10 million viewers in its fourth season, got over 13 million for its fourth season premiere, and over 11 million for its series finale.

For the record, HBO does not even have a 2 to 1 advantage in subscribers over HBO now. So let's just call it like it is--Showtime can't do any better than this because Showtime's best series are nowhere near the level of HBO's best series.
