I predict 2.4 million for the finale, maybe 2.5 if they hype it enough. I wonder if the numbers this week were influenced by the news about the boy who said Dexter was his inspiration for murdering his brother. Any thoughts?

Curb, True Blood, and Entourage are in ‘Tier 1′
Hung, Bored to Death, Big Love, Flight of the Conchords, Eastbound & Down are ‘Tier 2′
In Treatment (which I LOVE) and No 1 Ladies is ‘Tier 3′
Life & Times of Tim was horrible.

Dexter, Californication, and Tudors are ‘Tier 1′, matching HBO’s quality.
Weeds is better than HBO’s ‘Tier 2′, but not quite ‘Tier 1′ quality.
Haven’t watched US of Tara, and Secret Diary is about a 4.
Nurse Jackie is horrible.

As for top rated, ‘AWESOME’ shows, seems to me like Showtime has a half hour more than HBO, in my humble opinion.

SHO has Dexter, Nurse Jackie, Californication, Tudors, Inside the NFL, US Of Tara, Secret Diary of a Call Girl and Tracey Ullman.

I like having them both. But HBO’s lineup is better. Plus the Pacific Mini series is coming.

I also don’t want to save the world from terrorists in the longest 24 hours of my life.
Nor do I want to be Superman.
Nor do I want to be trapped on an ancient spaceship multiple galaxies away from Earth. (Ok… that’d be sorta cool.)
Nor do I want to be a writer who works with a hot cop and solves New York City crimes.

I do however, wish I was Hank Moody or Chuck Bartowski.

Have any of you ever thought that maybe the FBI should be finding out who is watching Dexter multiple times via OnDemand, and maybe looking a little more closely at their behavior?

And Dexter fans just want to murder vicariously.

This season of Dexter has been great. The second and third seasons had me thinking it was on its way down to inevitable shark-jumping, but this one’s been the best since the first. John Lithgow is the man.

And those saying Rita needs to go are idiots!
She is Dexters rock the whole family is.
Those who can’t see that doesn’t get this show at all!!

I think one reason Showtime’s movies aren’t all that compelling, is because the network is associated with a major motion picture company like HBO.

But HBO? Sure, they had the Sopranos (which I’ve never seen), but they don’t have anything now. True Blood is part of a vampire fad that will die soon enough.

The Sopranos was a once-in-a-decade-type deal. Comparing even True Blood to Sopranos would have today’s HBO looking like dog food compared to the 2000 HBO.

Showtime is an also ran pay channel. Its movies are weak and therefore its viewership is weaker than HBO which has better movies. This ‘impression’ impacts where viewers turn for all programming. Also, they give Showtime away. We called comcast looking to get it and they’re like, “we’ll give it to you free for a year!”

Californication, United States of Tara, Dexter – these are good shows and on par with anything HBO produces.

It’s nice that Showtime has finally broken the 2mil barrier with an original series.

Of course, The Sopranos averaged over 10 million viewers in its fourth season, got over 13 million for its fourth season premiere, and over 11 million for its series finale.

For the record, HBO does not even have a 2 to 1 advantage in subscribers over HBO now. So let’s just call it like it is–Showtime can’t do any better than this because Showtime’s best series are nowhere near the level of HBO’s best series.
