    lol nice clip

What happened? Why has so much of this classic holiday special been cut out of it?

Sally’s materialistic letter to Santa and one of the key elements as to why Charlie Brown goes searching for the true meaning of Christmas? Gone.

Schroeder’s magnificant and brilliantly done renditions of “Jingle Bells”? Gone.

Linus using his blanket like a slingshot? Gone.

Catching snowflakes and discussing the flavor? Gone.

    Shermy’s only line? Gone.

This special is not a mockery of the original. ABC should be ashamed of itself for cutting up and shredding this special. I doubt if I will ever watch ABC again after this. Seriously, this was the only Holiday Special that I have watched for the past 15 years or so and now it has been completely and totally ruined.

  3. joe

You ruined it with all the cuts.

  4. Mark

I totall agree. How can the top brass cut so many parts of the original show. The Lucy and Shroeder piano sequence is one of the best parts of the show. And to cut Shermy’s only line just os not right.

Next year, ABC will televise the “New” version of Peanuts. It will be 24 minutes of new previews and 3 minutes of Charlie Brown Christmas fast-forwarded and Vince Guarldi’s music replaced with the Black-Eyed Peas hip hop version of “Christmastime is Here”. Mazel tov!

I’ve been waiting for Charlie Brown to come on and now it’s ruined. But It took forever for me to even get to see it here online. They take way to much time downloading stuff.

  6. Billy

ABC should be ashamed and embarrassed to AIR a chopped of version of “merry Christmas Charlie Brown”

I have no idea what their reasoning was!!!

ALL I know is… if they feel inclined to CUT one of the most beloved Christmas special’s out of our season’s traditions, I can CUT most ALL of my ABC TV viewing!!

    SHAME ON YOU ABC!

  7. john

what did you expect. a great christmas show where charlie brown complains about christmas being commercialized and they cut out a lot of part for commercials. I’ve tried to watch this show every year since it started but this has to be one of the worst cases of hacking up a show.

merry christmas all except the grinches ABC

  8. Ryan

    I know.

What’s up with ABC trimming Charlie Brown specials, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas for time?

ABC should start focusing more on the viewer if doesn’t want to be stuck in 3rd place in the ratings.

    Just my opinion.

ABC will broadcast the complete, unedited “Charlie Brown Christmas” Tuesday Dec. 15th at 8pm eastern, in an hour-long time slot. I don’t believe ABC has shown this butchered version in several years, if ever before. They ran the edited version this year to provide a good lead-in to the new “Prep and Landing” special. So watch it next Tuesday and all the good stuff will be back. : D

  10. Matt

Watching this special right now on DVR, my wife wondered about what she perceived to be obvious edits to our beloved Christmas Special. Thanks for confirming our suspicions. It seems different from the 90′s edit detailed in the Wikipedia page…they still berate Charlie Brown for picking such a pitiful tree, which is nice, and there’s still some talk about the over-commercialization of Christmas. But, now that it’s finishing up if feels REALLY short. Definitely no letter to Santa from Sally, etc. We’ll keep this on the DVR and record the 15th’s showing and compare.

  11. Tom

    Sally said it so well.

“All I want is what’s coming to me. All I want is my fair share.”

  12. John

All of the Christmas specials are their other station “ABC Family” has also been cut to pieces. It is obvious by the edits that it is for time. Gotta get those commercials in ya know!

  13. Jeff Brodbeck

I implore ABC to restore and show the masterpiece “A Charlie Brown Christmas” in its delightful entirety. I saw the original airing and have always made a point of catching it. It is a family tradition and Christmas would not be the same without it.

Editing it is an insult to art and tradition. Such a special could not be made today.

  14. Al Budz

Try the following link. I haven’t viewed it in its entirety yet, but I did check and did not have the same problem some others mentioned about it stopping after 2:24.

    Happy Holidays!

Screw the networks, too many commercials. Come Christmas time, AND AFTER Thanksgiving, my family and I sit down to watch A Charlie Brown Christmas on our DVD player, uncut, no commercials, no network lineup crap! It’s the one family tradition we keep dear and I don’t want any network showing it edited for commercials. I would recommend you all doing the same thing. Do not depend on the networks, ABC, NBC, CBS, TBS, FOX, etc. to show any of the holiday shows uncut and full of imbedded commercials. Buy a $39 DVD player, it does not have to be Blue-Ray, and buy the DVDs, they’re cheaper than you think and you can watch the shows more than once with your family if you feel the need to.
