Zap2it reports that the  Jerry Bruckheimer produced drama starring Dylan McDermott will  get a second season of 10 episodes.  The order seems a little light, which being cynical I would chalk up to a balancing act between kissing Jerry Bruckheimer's backside, and trying to keep the accountants from snarling.  The show that was "ratings-challenged," to say the least,  in its first season.

I said it was cynical!

No word yet on the schedule, but I'd expect to see it during TNT's summer season.  Update: TV MoJoe confirms the show is set for a June return.

Thank You God… Dark Blue is a great show!

Hallelujah! I think Hawthorne also got renewed for 10 episode second season too.

If they start production in January or February, I would expect this to premiere in mid to late July.

  3. Dan

This seemed as likely as Dollhouse getting renewed for a second season, but I bet TNT thought long and hard about this. For the fans, you got your Xmas wish.

  4. Julia3

YAY! I love this show! YAY!

  5. Sharon

    FABULOUS NEWS!!!!!!!!!! LOVE DARK BLUE!!

  6. Tom

@Dan – I’m not sure that’s true. Raising the Bar was a dud from the beginning yet it got two full seasons. I think TNT is putting an effort into building relationships with big name producers (Steven Bochco on Raising the Bar and Jerry Bruckheimer here) so they’ll look to cable first in the future

Hmm what do you know, Dark Blue bucks the renew cancel list and comes back. Shocking. Guess we have to go back and bash on Fringe a little more lol.

  8. Don J

Now I wonder if TNT will still keep it on Wednesday’s with Leverage or have the guts to pair this with The Closer on Monday.

  9. Dan

Tom – I think it may be a thing where all shows get a second chance (unless they do really bad) Dark Blue didnt do horrible, yet declined when Leverage ended. My guess is that it wont get a third year after airing next year, Like how Raising the Bar only got 2 years. Leverage and Hawthorne could continue past 2 years, but I highly doubt Dark Blue will get a third.

    Great news!

  11. Lee

Great news. I’ve been waiting anxiously.

    Thank you TNT.

Thank god this made my day after the bad news about ATWT.

Dark Blue needs to get its fan base in and I would like to see SouthLAnd help make that happen if they put the two together.

  13. Dan

Dark Blue wont return until the summer. With the show just renewed, production wont start for a good month, while Southland is airing from January-March.

  14. Holly

    @Don J,
What would scheduling this show after The Closer have to do with guts?

  15. Don J

Holly, because of Raising the Bar and Saving Grace’s failures as the Closer’s lead-out.

But, I think Dark Blue is probably the most compatible show with The Closer.

But, they are commiting to producing 10 episodes, so I don’t see why need. Then TNT can pair a more light hearted in tone show with Leverage on Wednesday’s.

I knew this was coming when I heard about raising the bar being cancelled. In times when great shows get the axe after one season, this is GREAT news. Dark blue is awesome

  17. Anthony

I want it back just because I am in love with the blonde girl :)

  18. Lucinda

    This is great news!!!
    I love Dark Blue!!
My husband and I watched every episode and now we get a second season, my Christmas wish was answered! Thank you TNT!

I don’t think this should be compared to Raising the Bar. Didn’t Raising the Bar premiered to 7.7 million viewers and averaged around 5.5 million per episode after that? However this year it lost a lot of that audience, getting 3.5 million per episode, and constantly lost a lot of the audience from its lead in, The Closer.

I’m surprised this got renewed considering it didn’t get very good reviews and had poor ratings. The show seems over dramatized and done many times before (like Raising the Bar and Hawthorne). That’s just my opinion though, and at least the fans of the show get to be happy about its renewal.

I like this show. I think it is done well with good drama and not bloody and gory like the CSI series.
