I think the least likely explanation is that we've been blocked universally in China, but it's the most interesting one! (the most likely, and most boring, explanation, is that one of our various spam defenses has blocked certain IP address ranges)
Is anyone else visiting the site from China that would care to share their experiences?

There’s a data-driven way to look at this, but at the time I sent the message (the “about 15 hours ago one”) I didn’t have good data for 12/8.
Typically we average anywhere from around 100 to 150 visits from China per day.
On 12/7 we had 115 from 31 different cities in china
On 12/8 we had 9 visits from 2 cities.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s China’s fault and not our spam/malware defenses, but it does suggest that very few people from China will be able to find their way to this post to respond here!
Those 100-150 could be government agents assigned to monitor the site. As much as some groups on the left here worship the Chinese system, truth remains, the Chinese ruling elite is not fond of alternative lifestyles and certainly not up to allow its population to be exposed to it. The Adam Lambert posts must have flagged the site for (at least temporary) censorship. It’s my theory.
Doesn’t the CCP Politburo realize that if they censor TVBTN, their citizens may start actually reading non-little red books, and eventually questioning the treatment of Marshal Peng Dehuai by Mao Zedong from 1958 until his death?
This would eventually lead to a statue of Douglas MacArthur being placed in Tienanmen Square, since his disobedience of Truman’s orders went a long way to allowing the Great Firewall of China to be…
…and a statue of Chesty Puller next to him, both for his defense of Chinese citizens from Japanese aggression in Beijing in 1940, and for his role in the defeat of the Chinese at the Chosin Reservoir in the winter of 1950.
I’m sure Peng would have respected Puller and Matthew Ridgeway, but I’m not so certain about MacArthur…
…any thoughts from behind the Great Firewall?
You guys are blocked: http://www.websitepulse.com/help/testtools.china-test.html
”On 12/7 we had 115 from 31 different cities in china
On 12/8 we had 9 visits from 2 cities.”
Which two cities ?
Nanchang and Shanghai
edit: And from what I can see from today so far, just Nanchang. 3 visits, and it’s deceptive because it doesn’t look like any of the visits were actually able to spend any time on the site.
Our tests using http://www.websitepulse.com/help/testtools.china-test.html confirm that the site is not accessible from China.
What have we done to anger the Chinese censors?
Zai jen!
hmmm…free expression is not well tolerated in China.
Take it as a compliment. TVBTN is big enough that China blocked it!
I’m @tonejam…
You may not know that twitter ,Facebook and youtube also have been blocked in China. But we can still break our GOV’S GFW to get access to those site we love.We can buy VPN,we can use proxy software such as puff, freegate, etc.
I cant figure out why they block TVBTN…But just as Julia said, take it as a compliment!
In the spirit of censorship, I accidentally deleted a couple of comments on this thread!
sorry about that, Donatino, like tao, you were coming in on proxy software which probably explains why you can access our site even though we are blocked from China. When you spoof addresses in Chicago, Il or Columbus, Oh you show up in our geographic mapping as coming from those locations, even though you are in China. But as far as I can tell we are no longer getting any traffic from China that shows up as coming from China.
that sucks.
I’m just waiting for someone to suggest that TVBTN being blocked in China is part of the great “Nielsen conspiracy”!
Something for the Fan Excuse Bingo cards (maybe in a very tiny half square at the bottom?): “My favorite show got cancelled because TVBTN is blocked in China!”
Where are the Chinese supposed to go to discuss Chuck’s 18-34 numbers?
“Where are the Chinese supposed to go to discuss Chuck’s 18-34 numbers?”
Chuck is banned in China also.
What do you expect from a Communist country that hasn’t reformed their political rules?
Hey this is a list of websites blocked in China: http://asp-cyber.law.harvard.edu/filtering/list.html
Bill and Rob, maybe they’re offended by the Fan Excuse Bingo cards?
Robert, just so I can know, was my post a motivator for any of the deletions? It was a rebuttal to a claim that there was no freedom of speech restriction in China and I included examples. Was that perhaps the reason the deleting pen came out, with its tenuous links to the actual availability to the site or TV in general? Or was that an accidental deletion as well? Just so I keep in mind how to post.
@Burn-E,
I’m not Robert but… He did say he “accidentally deleted a couple of comments”
Burn-E, it was accidental. However, I’d request that you stay away from those sort of topics on our blog in general (even though I understand why they seemed appropriate enough to make in this particular thread).
I didn’t know you can measure visits from particular countries! How about the data from the UK and Ireland? I would love to know how many people in my own country have an over the top fetish for US TV Dramas!! PLEASE!!!
